So, hey, this guy is below-average with the bat, but is alright in the field, and can play SS, 3B, or 2B. So, that's a pretty nice utility guy to be getting in the 22nd round. And, he's only 27, which means he still has some room to improve. Oh, and he hit .100 against the Red Sox in the World Series last year, so thanks for that!

Daniel Descalso (BP)

(P.S. I checked multiple times, not only on my lists, but both on Sumner's list and in this topic, to make sure this guy wasn't taken. So if someone comes along and says he was - well, you can just go away   <_< )

A-Rod pick is awful. He won't even play this year, and in the future all he'll do is make people mad. And if he does play well, do you think he'll be okay with a bench role on your team, or will there now be a needless line-up controversy?

This is what A-Rod thinks of all the negativity.

I'm not expecting big things from him.  But - he's dickishly defiant enough that I could see him being pretty effective part-time 3B/DH/PH, next year and maybe the one after.  It's the 100th round.

My outfield doesn`t thrill me. All 4 I have can play any position but I`ll think I`ll take another guy who can play all 3.

Oh come on, he lasted all this time. I'm going to need some time to mourn this loss. I'll pick within the hour.

I think I've found another good value pick here. This guy was the number 4 pick in the 2009 draft. He's from Boston and he's having a pretty damn good Spring: .293/.370.463/.833

Tony Sanchez, BP.

Plus he walks up to fuckin' "Let it Go"

Well this sucks. I doubt I'll be staying up to 2 am so I'll post DD proxy when I wake up, unless he gets to it first.

After two consecutive skips, I feel like I should have a more exciting pick than Drew Storen....

Hm.

I don't. Drew Storen, RP. I think he, Watson, and Wilson can be a solid late-inning trio. If the dreaded inverted W doesn't do him in first, that is.

I'll PM RGB.

I had some internet issues today, sorry for the delay, I will go with Jonny Venters, RP.

He should be back in May this season and has shown an ability to bounce back from TJ surgery before.  He was a dominant setup man before the injury and gives me a lefty for my bullpen.  I like his potential to bounce and he is only entering his age 29 season.

I will PM now

Venters is someone I was considering instead of Loup. Went with Loup because he's not injured right now basically, I think Venters is a slightly better pitcher all things even.

Alright then. This kid is going to be my Daniel Nava. I can sub him in for almost any position except catcher and SS. Oh, and he can hit. AVG, power all of it.

The Wonderbeards select Stefen Romero, BP

He has some question marks defensively but has looked pretty good in his switch to the OF. He has a sweet almost effortless swing that generates a ton of power which he uses to hit to all parts of the field. He's only my second minor leaguer (the other being Taveras) but he's ML ready and will likely be starting in the OF for the M's at the beginning of the season. There was another player I was ready to take here but I like this kids bat and positional flexibility a lot more.

On the DL right now with a bruised finger but has always struck out guys and was lights-out in 30 IP last year.

You fucking picked BEFORE him
I thought Moran would go before Coleman. I didn't think anyone knew of Coleman. I've been holding onto that one for the entire draft. Vincent and Coleman were locks in my mind.

I haven't had many of my guys sniped so far:

A Loup

Melancon

C Fien

L Coleman

JJ Hoover

C. Vasquez

Lavarnway

Ross

Flores

Raburn

J Mayberry

No way. I didn't even realize Moran was eligible and I've been the prospect humper this entire draft.

EDIT: Oh man, you must hate me then. I picked 3 of them.

I hate you for entirely other reasons.

Moran was a guy I just realized was eligible based on his AFL ABs. I now have the 2nd and 6th picks of the 2013 MLB draft.

I figured Fien would be taken, was convinced Melancon was falling to me in R16. Should've been more aggressive and moved on him over Cole. But, whatever. Luis Coleman is a beast and has been for three years. He had the closer role in-hand before Holland.

Moran is another horrifying pick. The guy has a handful of ABs beyond Low A, and he wasn't even super impressive at that level. Bring him to the MLB right now, and you'd destroy him. Just a terrible, unjustifiable pick. I'd put him down for -1 WAR for roster evaluation purposes.

Seriously people, think this through. The point of the exercise is that these guys are playing in the MLB, and only the MLB, right away. Do you think a guy who couldn't break a .800 OPS in Low A can play in the MLB tomorrow? No. Fucking. Way.

Stephen Vogt, BP

My backup catcher. I haven't been able to get my hands on a detailed report on his defense, but he seems at least adequate behind the plate, and very good offensively--has crushed it in the minors over the past few years, tore it up in spring training too, and, as a LHH, complements Matt Wieters well, who's had some difficulties with hitting RHP over his career. With Wieters, Vogt and John Jaso (my 1B vs. RHP) I feel very strong at catcher.

I agree that Moran is a poor choice. He also really needs to be playing every day at this point, so I don't think you can really take credit if he emerges as a productive player in a year or two.

Ehhhh, I'll disagree (obviously). He played at a high level college program, made it to the CWS, and handles wooden bats well. SSS in Low A doesn't much matter considering his previous track record against better talent.

Ahem, looks like he pulled a hamstring this spring and will need to go to XST then a rehab assignment in the minors. Cough. There's plenty of ways to get him ABs in the minors, even if he's on the ML roster. Combine that with being able to rotate him and Bryant (another "not ready" prospect) and DH/1B, he should see 200+ ABs with ease. Come 2015, he can take over 1B from Cuddy or I can trade away EE to create room on the roster.

I lean towards the thinking that sticking a college bat in the minors for too long can crush their approach, confidence, and coaching. I'd rather Moran get ML-level coaching and learn from EE, Stanton, Cuddy, and Martin than proving he can hit a flamed out 30-year old's straight fastball.

I certainly don't watch enough Royals games to know him, but to target relievers for my Scoresheet fantasy league, I just sorted on Fangraphs by K% and FIP, with various inning limits, and went from there. He was 12th in FIP in all of MLB with at least 20 IP last year. Not sure why you'd expect him to continue to be missed -- I was surprised when he was still there for my pick.

No, there isn't a way to get him into the minors in this. The point of the exercise is that this is your MLB roster. No options, no rehab assignments, nada. He's on your 25 man roster unless he actually gets injured, in which case we have the 3 reserve slots.

I'm not sure how this hasn't been made abundantly clear. Everyone you pick is playing in the MLB, and only the MLB.

Coleman went under the radar the past two years and was overshadowed by Wade Davis, Will Smith (traded), Holland, Crow, and Hochever. His injury last year depressed his IP, figured with the SSS and injury folks would dismiss his absurd K-rate, especially since his BB/9 was a bit on the high side for his career.

Well, crying about it won't help any. I still explained how he could get ABs in the majors. I think Moran's talent surpasses most remaining bench players and he can produce at the ML level with competence in 2014.

Only -1? That wouldn't really be that bad. Barry Zito was -2.6 WAR on Bref for instance.
