45 days to Opening Day. 45 days to the launch of SoSH Baseball Central on sonsofsamhorn.com!

SoSH Baseball Central launches Opening Day and is seeking volunteers. We’re building a team from scratch and need help all over the diamond: we need writers, we need editors, we need designers, we need artists, we need people to spread the word. We need you.

We are looking for driven, talented people of all kinds. If you want to help in any way, please volunteer. We want you on the team, even if you don’t think you can contribute consistently.

  • Are you going to a game in June? Bring a camera and write about it.

  • Do you frequent another baseball message board? Share links to our stories when they are relevant. Spreading the word by telling you friends about us will be a huge help. Literally “tell your friends” is a thing you can do to help us.

  • Are you good with WordPress?

  • Do you create your own video?

  • Are you wicked into Pedro like the rest of us?

There are any number of ways in which you can help this venture to be a success: we will take any help we are offered and be grateful for it.
Thank you in advance and here’s to a great 2015 season!

I'm pretty decent with the old WordPress. Limited time free but let me know how I can help.

I don't have a ton of free time, but I would be interested in trying to write an article or two - possibly on some lesser known baseball history (if that kind of thing fits the site purpose) . What is (will be) the process for submitting articles?

We are putting the submission process together now. For the moment, if you want to to pitch a piece, feel free to PM me and we can get the process started from there.

I'd like to help. I have some basic knowledge of Wordpress. I wrote for a few baseball websites a while back, mostly fluff pieces, but it was fun.

I'll be at Opening day with my camera, so could offer a report if you like.

I'd be happy to help in other ways...I have some  tech skills, and some photography chops as well...

I'd probably be willing to pitch in to write from time to time.  If nothing else, I could cross-post the entries from the mathematical elimination thread that I write every year.

I'll be at the Marathon Day game, be happy to put something together. I would imagine I will be but one of many that day, though...

About all I can do is carry heavy things and reach high shelves, so when you are ready to move into an office or something, let me know.

Seriously though, this is exciting. I don't really know what's involved in this sort of thing, but if there are any jobs that are just time sinks and don't require great technical knowledge or pro-level writing, I'd be happy to do some of that to free up time for the more talented folks. Data entry? Envelope stuffing? Whatever.

I'd love to help any way I can. I'm a former newspaper (sports section) writer and editor. OK with Wordpress. I work from home now. I've got time.

I do content strategy. If you have anything you want me to look over (you have a content strategy, don't you?), I'm happy to help.

If you want to know what the hell a content strategist does, I can fill you in so you can figure out how I can help (taxonomy, production schedule, tone, voice, goals, etc.).

I wrote a bit for baseballessential earlier in the  offseason and would love to write articles periodically.

Content strategy!  On a website for Red Sox fans, written by Red Sox fans, for Red Sox fans.

Corporate taxonomy! Patience, donkey, patience.

If I happened to miss responding to anyone in this thread, please reach out and let me know. Also, if you have signed up for Slack, please check the docs I shared in #baseball and make sure you are on the contact list and that your contact info is correct. Thanks!

Also, to everyone else, we still need more people. Come join in all the fun!

If there's any interest in having an international-angle to your coverage then maybe some of us in the United Kingdom could provide reports or comment on how the mainstream media over here is covering the Red Sox? Views from UK-based Red Sox fans - both US and non-US possibly?

Maybe something to think about - just throwing a few ideas out there - so if you think it could be useful then I'd love to contribute in some way.

Would writeups about away games/cities be welcome? If so I could try to come up with something assuming I go to Seattle again this year. I'm thinking of a "where to say and what to do" and/or a write up of a specific game.

Would love to help... Attend many major and minor league Red Sox related games and would love to help anyway I could!

It should be an interesting season here in Washington.  If you'd like something about the Nats, I might be game to write a piece.

Any good content that's baseball related will be considered for the editing process. We welcome any and all ideas! I'll PM each of you in a moment.

We definitely need help with minor league content. We are currently building a stockpile of prospect profiles if that's something you might find interesting and we would be happy to take any pieces written about any games you attend, as well. I'll send you a PM in a minute.

I could lend a hand with transcoding or otherwise prepping videos and such if you need it.

We're still working out the details with how we're going to handle using video since MLB is so protective of their video content. I'll go into more detail in a PM.

If you're interested in minor league game photos and to a lesser extent major league game photos I may be able to help. In short, I take a lot of photos. Not much of a writer though.

I can contribute some medical/injury writing (I'm in sports medicine). I also live next to Fenway Park and will attend a number of games - could give some game reports or views of what it's like to live in the area during the season.

I go to a lot of (too many?) Salem games every year if you need help there.

Are you looking for submissions from SoSHers on certain subjects or to build a staff of writers or both?

We are looking for any and all kinds of content. Were are also looking for both staff writers and people who just submit things occasionally, or even once because they have something interesting to share. PMs incoming to all of you.

I'd like to help - not sure what kind of schedule I could keep, but I'd be willing to write some stuff.  I always get the extra innings package and watch a ton of games (AL more than NL), and I love to follow each team's transactions, so maybe I could do some "around the league" updates, like a periodic AL/NL East/Central/West News and Moves type of thing.

Or maybe I could do some basic explanations of some of the advanced stats....a stat of the week or something.

Or some oddities from baseball history - a weekly look at something strange that happened in a game, either from this year or from the past.

Just some ideas.  Not sure what you're looking for.

Hey guys and gals, if you have volunteered to write for us we're trying to get everyone to check in at Slack to give us an update on what you are working on or even what ideas you are just kicking around. So if you can spare a minute to chime in at the baseball channel there, we'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Not here
There is some chance I'm going to be at Myrtle Beach for Salem's second series of the season. If nobody is at their first series, this could be a chance at an early writeup on Moncada. Of course, I'm no scout.

I don't have the ability to get to any MLB or mLB games, and I don't have the writing chops of any of you guys.

That said, I will definitely be reading, and I am really excited for this!

I would like to submit things occasionally -- maybe including a female perspective if that would be of any interest? I have no idea what that means right now, but I do write and love baseball.

Red, Ras, thanks for reaching out. I'll be PMing each of you in a few minutes. LogansDad, there are a lot of ways to help out, even if you are writing or editing. Even it that means passing links to pieces around when we publish thing, we'd be grateful for any assistance.

I'd be happy to help on the development angle. I've built many large WP sites for companies that people know (I say that to separate from "I've setup some WP blogs/personal sites"). I have more WP knowledge than I really care for, but I'd love to help.

For those of you who will be doing something for us that requires an invite to our Slack page and were promised one in a PM, if you haven't received one yet, please let me know. We had a bit of a back log in getting those out and I want to make sure no one was missed. Thank you!
