Stream is up. I'll start breaking right at 8pm EDT

Original post:
It seems like there's enough interest in a SoSH break, so let's use this new thread for sign ups and details.

1. Post in this thread to let me know you are signing up. One slot per person for the moment, but indicate if you would buy more than 1 slot if we are short of 30 participants. If we only get 15, we can always assign two teams per person and break half the cards to the keep the costs the same.

2. Vote in this poll if you have a preference of what we will break. If you aren't participating in the break, please don't vote in the poll. I'll leave the poll open for a week, but if we fill the slots and get consensus before then, I'll go with the early results. I don't care what we break. If it goes well and there's interest, we can do more this summer.

3. I will post instructions for payment once we have a total cost and 30 slots filled.

4. Please subscribe to this thread if you are participating

Basics:
This will be a random team break. Teams will be assigned by randomizing the 30 sign ups 3 times via random.org
You will receive all cards for your team (determined by the team on the card). If one person has 51% or more of teams listed on the card, they get the card. If no teams are listed, the card will go to the team generally associated with that player. I'll use random.org to assign ownership if there is not a clear owner.

The break will be streamed live (via Youtube or similar) and will be available for viewing afterward if you are unable to join live.

Cards will ship within a couple of days after the break. Hits will be in penny sleeves and toploaders. Everything else will be bagged. All will ship securely in a box.

Cost: TBD, based on what we select in the poll. It will be my actual cost for the cards divided by 30 slots, plus shipping and supplies (~$6 or $7 total). If we have any international participants, we'll figure out their shipping cost before payment.

When: It'll be a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday evening, starting around 8 or 9pm EDT. Which weekend will depend on how long it takes to get slots filled, collect money, and have cards delivered.

Post any questions here.

Break options (prices are from blowoutcards.com. If I can find a better deal, I will. Prices subject to change, depending on when/where we buy):
1. 2021 Topps Series 1 - 12 box case - $1,849 – 4,032 cards (~$62/team + supplies)
2. 2021 Bowman Baseball Half Case (6 boxes) - $1,799 – 1,440 cards (~$60/team + supplies)
3. Mixer: 4 - 2021 Topps Series Hobby boxes (@$159 each) + 2 – 2021 Bowman Baseball Hobby boxes (@300 each) + 2 – 2021 Panini Diamond Kings Baseball Hobby boxes (@$125 each) = $1,486 (~$50/team + supplies)

I’m in for one if either the Bowman or hybrid breaks. If it’s all Topps, I’m all set. Hell, if all Bowman I’d grab two slots if you need them

fingers crossed!

@PortageeExpress is it workable in a break to randomly assign an order to all breakers and then letting folks draft teams?

That may be too complicated but it might yield more people getting teams they're interested in.

Feel free to ignore altogether - I've never been in a break before either. Still in for participating however it works easiest. And thanks for organizing, it seems like a ton of work!

Yes, that format is possible. If the cat herding isn't too bad with this one, I'd consider doing that (or similar) in a future break.

Okay, since we're close and have a few volunteers to get a second team, I'm going to proceed with the order.

Based on the poll results, we're going with the second option: 2021 Bowman Baseball Half Case (6 boxes) - $1,799 – 1,440 cards (~$60/team + supplies)

Next steps:
1. We've got three teams left. @heavyde050, @NJ_Sox_Fan, and @Oil Can Dan - you three were the first signups to volunteer for a second team. Let me know if you're still good with that. If not, there are some other volunteers.
2. I'll place the order
3. I'll figure out totals provide payment instructions
4. Once everyone is paid, I'll schedule the day/time for the break

Dang, after opening a blaster of Diamond Kings today, I kind of wish I could change my vote. These are pretty sweet cards.

For a card break newb, can you explain this?:
If one person has 51% or more of teams listed on the card, they get the card. If no teams are listed, the card will go to the team generally associated with that player. I'll use random.org to assign ownership if there is not a clear owner.

Basically if there’s a card with 2 players on it, and each player/team belongs to a separate slot holder you can use random.org to randomly generate a “winner” of the card. If the card has say 3 players, and 1 slot holder owns two of the three players/teams, they get the card, no random needed.

Ahh, thanks. Like this card I had as a kid? I traded for a Rod Carew and my dad was livid. I learned new words that day.

Exactly - in this case, the slot holder of the Yanks and Orioles would be entered into random.org, then the list would be randomed a set number of times (sometimes determined by way of a dice roll) and the winner gets the card.
