Josh Taylor unified IBF and WBA Junior Light weight titles last night. He won a very close fight against Regis Prograis who won a lot of fans at the O2 arena in London with his performance and post match interview. I had it a draw, but the only consensus was it was close. Either fighter could have got the decison. But it was super high quality boxing. A lot of the fight was faught inside, up close, with quality defense and attack. Short quick jabs and uppercuts, fine body shots. Neither fighter looked like they were gonna get kncoked down never mind out. I can see these two fighting again and it being big a money fight.

Did I mention Taylor is Scottish? Sha dancer.

Guys, these Canelo Kovalev odds dont make any sense to me
You mean Canelo nearly -400? I mean, I feel like only hardcore fans know Kovalev even, and any time you have a fighter like Canelo that gets a big push from an entire country that skews things.

But, if Kovalev is in shape I think he has a real shot. If he doesn’t knock him out without 7-8 rounds and doesn’t have his wind, Canelo will break him down.

Kovalevs last fight he was almost
Knocked out to the body by a mediocre fighter. He has quit due to body shots before. Canelo is an outstanding body puncher hence the odds

However kovalev has an outstanding jab. I think he has a real shot at this

Kovalev is a monster puncher. I always thought it was weird GGG got the big HBO push when Kovalev was the dude with one hitter quitter hands. He put down Ward and I believe won their first fight. I had the second fight close until the low blows and Kovalev sucking wind.

But, if he’s in shape and sharp, he absolutely has the power - especially at 175 - to sleep Canelo. Canelo has improved defensively, but he still gets hit a fair amount. He’ll try to take the fight inside, but Kovalev - as you note - has a great jab, better than Golovkin’s. His lateral movement has never been great, and his feet can get sloppy, but if he’s able to pound Canelo with the jab and time the cross, he can absolutely put him away.

If I was given to sin and iniquity, I might toss $100 at Sergei.

Smart round by both. Don’t believe Kovalev has the discipline to do it 11 more times. And his jab doesn’t look like it’s going to take Canelo’s soul.

Kovalev needs to actually step into his jab. Canelo is going to start walking him down and taking out his body.

They had never thought about color coding close rounds until Bill Simmons gave them the idea? I think they're giving him way too much credit for something which should have been obvious.

They’re giving him credit because he told Mannix to do it and Mannix did it.

I agree with Mannix, it seems like Canelo is beating Kovalevs ass even though he is t landing that much

edit: just as I say this Canelo has his worst round

What an odd game plan by Kovalev, just playing pattywhack with the smaller fighter. At least turn over your power and go out on your shield if he counters.

Might maybe be some scorecard drama.

Feel like Kovalev is going to suck and try to grasp into an uppercut.

Man, at 1:25, Kovalev could’ve ended Canelo with a right after that missed hook if he’d only pulled the trigger.

Play by play guy is not great. Missing action to talk narrative. Color guy and Mannix have been okay. I’m still nostalgic for the HBO guys (RIP Manny).

If that was McGirt’s game plan, they need to kick him out of the Hall.

Also, Canelo fights everyone and I respect him, but it’s been awhile since I enjoyed any of his fights.

Define anyone? You mean someone his age and in their physical prime? Because that has yet to happen

If you have dazn, watch the Donaire Inoue fight from this morning. Tremendous. Donaire a hof at the end gave an insane effort against the monster.

Probably a strong foty candidate

I really like Wilder as a fighter, champion and man, but damn would I love to see Ortiz hold a belt for a minute.
