Please do not close this thread because I'm a casual boxing fan and it's fun to hear from those who have much more knowledge than me.

I thought it was over after the 4th. Huge turnaround.

Sorry, I shouldn't have posted that. I just got annoyed because on mobile, there is a picture that comes up with this thread title and it is huge and takes up almost my entire screen.

Thanks for modding the thread.

Anyway. The performance by Alvarez was much more impressive than Ward's victories over Kovalev. After knockdown 1 his legs were completely shot.
It was a good fight. Kovalev looked to be taking over, but was too brave and hittable. That first right was not a punch a champion gets hit with and he never recovered. Would love to see a rematch.

He's been really too lax since he fought Chilemba. Pulling straight back with his left hand down. Very arrogant and he paid for it.

I'd still put Ward's wins over him ahead of this because he was coming up in weight and he exposed these flaws (fatigue, sloppy defensively, lack of mental toughness).

After the 4th, when he couldn't get Alvarez out, you could feel a little panic set in like "what do I do now?"

Since it’s not a PPV fight, I’m surprised that last night’s fight isn’t on HBO Now yet.
They really are frustrating on how they handle boxing on their platforms. HBO now for instance, can't watch live boxing. But if you get HBO through slingtv or some service, you might be able to. Its annoying

Man, I thought he won the first Ward fight and the second one got punched in the balls repeatedly.

Especially when compared to Showtime, which streams the East and West coast channels in their app.

Result aside (which I vehemently disagree with you about), you didn't see how after about 5 or 6 rounds he's noticeably a different fighter? Punches aren't as sharp or powerful, etc.

Him, Canelo, and Joshua are the three for me that the drop off is very noticeable

I thought in Ward 2 his jab went to mush, which allowed Ward to get inside easily. I also thought the rumor was too much partying, too little training. I thought he was getting better through the middle rounds last night in terms of snap and power. He just thought he could take Alvarez’s power but ended up getting caught clean and couldn’t recover.

Watch the contender. The boxing is terrible but well produced and and (unintentional) comedy throughout.

Is Stallone still producing? Because screw him.
No. I think it's just a Mark Burnett joint.

Ward is really good as a host, Brother Nasim is (unintentionally) hilarious as a trainer, and Freddie is collecting a nice check.

It's shot and produced very differently than the other versions.

Even if you skip it, there's a fake Keith Thurman on there that lit up Boxing Twitter. Must see.

Update: id like to amend my initial enthusiasm by adding it's not just for cheap laughs, the show is very well produced and a good hour of tv. Nasim, Roach and Ward come across very genuine about the process (as opposed to just collecting a check). Ward even sparred some in the first episode and got a little knicked up.

Ton of boxing on tonight (showtime, hbo) ahead of the super bowl next week. Headlined by Danny Garcia vs Porter

I had porter edging it out by a round. Close close fight. Danny really didnt do himself any favors. If he would have just let his hands go a little more, he could have easily won this fight.

Now he'll go into hibernation and be back in a year+

Anybody have predictions for the fight Saturday? Will GGG get jobbed again? I would love to see a TKO of Alvarez, but I don't think it is meant to be. Nor do I feel good for GGG about it going to the cards.

Even though i thought GGG won the first fight, Canelo did some excellent work. His defense, movement, and counterpunching were great. The problem, as always, was his stamina that had him fighting in spurts too often late.

If this fight was in May, I'd take Canelo, maybe even by KO. But a year off plus a knee surgery and the first thing you're getting in with this killer? That's a tough ask. I hope he brings it but I'm feeling GGG by late KO.

I'd also like to add that Canelo looks significantly smaller than he was for the last fight. He could be looking to really show off his speed advantage

Not sure i understand canelo's approach today at the weigh in. This isnt a fight that needs to be "sold".

Floyd Mayweather Jr. says a rematch of his much-hyped 2015 fight with Manny Pacquiao will take place this year.
Mayweather posted on InstagramSaturday, saying, "I'm coming back to fight Manny Pacquiao this year another 9 figure pay day on the way."
One, floyd always does something on or around boxing's biggest day for attention.

Two, if this is true, Pac by KO. Floyd looked like garbage his last couple real fights and looked horrible in the circus McGregor fight.

You should get your money in now, then. Westgate opened the line on Pac at +180.
