I don't want to speak for ElUno, but nowhere does he discredit Fury's skills or boxing. With that big a size difference, it just doesn't matter how good or well-trained Wilder is, he simply is never going to beat a man of that size who also has ability. Fury ate shots that would send most grown men to the hospital and basically sat his ass on Wilder because there wasn't much Wilder could do to keep him off, stylistically. Valuev was a giant with no discernible boxing skills at that level.

I don't get the push back from many of you here about ElUno's overarching point. Heavyweight fights just aren't a fair draw when one man weighs 20%+ more than the other - this should not be disputable. I also agree that it makes the division much less interesting as a result. It would be like a prime Pacquiao going against a prime Bernard Hopkins.

Edit - Most of my post wasn't directed at you, there is a simple answer for why Valuev was never much more than a sideshow. And I felt like people are piling on about how great Fury while missing the main point of ElUno's posts.
That's more than fair. In reality, Valuev's relative success actually goes a ways to proving ElUno's point. Like you said, he was pretty much a sideshow - and he STILL managed to capture the WBA heavyweight title.

Stronger base. Knockouts come from the brain snapping against the back of the skull.
I've wanted to ask a question about knockouts. I understand that a hard shot to the chin is the most prevalent knockout punch there is - a blow at the base of the skull is going to prevent the neck from absorbing much of its energy.

But some of the wildest knockouts I've seen have been lefts to the body - Ward/Gatti, Hopkins/De La Hoya, etc. I get that these shots can absolutely destroy a fighter's liver. So my question to those who know a LOT more about the sport than I do - why don't we see more of these? Is a liver shot more of a "high risk, high reward" type thing? Does throwing that left leave the puncher open to a right? Does the left to the body function more as a counterpunch?

I'll hang up and listen.

I think the knockdowns to the liver are very undpredictabe. You can see a guy attack the body ferociously and the opponent can withstand it and then you see one shot to the liver put a guy down. Judges don’t seem to value body work that much so it takes a certain personality to invest in body work.

Bas Rutten used to love a left kick to the liver if you want to check out his highlights for entertainment.

Body shots are riskier because your hands are further from your head when throwing so you’re more exposed. It’s also more difficult to maintain your sight lines. You want to watch your fist to make sure it lands, but also watch for counters.

That said, they’re devastating when landed right. All the most painful shots I ever took were to the body.

To add to @luckiestman ’s point, amateur judges in particular have trouble with picking up clean body shots for scoring, so you kind of get away from that as an amateur and then some fighters have trouble reincorporating them as pros.

Also, if you go to the head and are blocked, you just hit glove. If you’re blocked to the body, you’re generally punching elbow/forearm, which hurts more and is how I broke my hand the first time.

Canelo is trash. Plant made him look average and slow as fuck for 10 rounds.

Please canelo. You're so great. I beg you to go fight an African American fighter.

I forgot this fight was tonight. He didn't finish until the 11th? WTH

What was the tenor of the fight up until that round?
I was watching Rose. Not watching Canelo again till he fights Demetrius or someone else real.

What is the angle on fix. I thought the dad was a weird move. I didn’t watch any post fight as I had to take a walk. I had porter winning but the 10-7 probably changes that

I dont think Porter took a dive but given he was planning to retire win, lose or draw, it was insane that his dad stopped it when
1- he had all his senses
2-it was a razor thin fight to that point
And fucking 3! He was planning on the retiring. Sheesh.

I just felt like Kenny Porter was dad instead of trainer there, coupled with his odd post fight of almost using it as punishment for Shawn not training the way he wanted. Just sucks. Love Shawn and he definitely deserved a shot at some Diego Corrales magic, even if it had a .00000001% chance of happening.

But you wont find an athlete in any sport more respectful and professional than Shawn so you'll never hear anything else about it.

Fight wise, not impressed with Bud at all. Still favor Spence in their matchup (although it'll be close). But one thing i love, the years of Arum shitting on him publicly....well Crawford took and now got to throw his counter with Bob right next to him. Well done Bud. Well done 46682

I like bud but he wont be able to handle Spence. Incredible combination punching and stunning stamina.

Hats off to Spence.

Edit: this was a Chocolatito performance. The pace, volume and quality of punching.

With his history, the ring might be the safest place for him. Plus, I’d be curious to see him against Usyk or AJ.

Agreed as his business manager i would say collect as many checks and stay working...

But as a boxing fan i dont see the point. He's too big for usyk and aj has no chin or the iq to hang with him. I think he takes 2 years off, comes back and fights whoever the "top" guy is at the time and collects a huge check.

I think it depends how much fame and success and attention he finds outside the ring. He seems like a spotlight guy.

Vegas, baby.
Seriously. This guy had a judge score the mayweather fight FOR him.

He's made a killing and reputation fighting completely bums for years. But the same issues havent left since his HBO days. No stamina, not great defensively, cant really return real fire well. Finally ran into a good fighter and not someone he weight drained, had no power or a week away from the retirement home.

Love you, Bivol. Thanks

I feel like they had to score it close to make a rematch even palatable. It was a good fight, but I don’t see a way Canelo beats Bivol unless he just goes all in on conditioning and can overwhelm him with volume on the way to a decision.

He's fighting G next. The money is massive for that. The rematch talk was just ego and to put a decent shine on this.

G is old, slowed and Canelo will probably mop him up. He waited this long for the 3rd fight for a reason

That was great.

Atlas is right out of central casting for stories like this. He's probably right and definitely entertaining.
