I know there is a thread on this topic, but it's been almost 6 months since anyone posted there so I figured it was better to start a new thread - if that assumption was wrong feel free to move this

Anyway, I finally decided to give the smart watch concept a try. With the new Moto 360 seemingly around the corner I was able to get a decent
deal on the original.

So here's my question for those of you with Smart watches in general, especially android wear powered, and Moto 360s specifically - what do I have to know?

I'm looking for the good and the bad as well as app recommendations.

I've had one since November. Here's all you need to know:

1. It is a watch;
2. When Google Now is on its game and you get traffic warnings without asking - you are living in the future and the future is awesome;
3. Folks will mistake it for an Apple Watch;
4. Responding to notifications from your wrist is marginally useful;
5. Receiving notifications on your wrist when a you are in a place that is loud or quiet can be useful;
6. Feeling like you can't get away from messages sucks; and
7. Google Now and message notifications are hit or miss - this is a first gen product.

Thanks, all good info. Re: #7 that's basically why I waited for a price drop. Couldn't bring myself to pay full price for a first gen concept.

It might be telling that all of the wearable tech threads are down in the depths, but I'm going to get the new Galaxy Active on Friday and there's an offer for the Gear s3 for $49, although you might need to add a $10/mo plan to qualify.

I read the feature list, but I can't get a feel for how useful this thing is IRL. Does anyone have any first hand experience/critiques?
