Hi all,

I'm looking for a Windows screen capture utility to take high-quality screenshots in a code editor and in a browser. I'm putting together some technical training for an amateur/community event. My requirements:
  • Higher-fidelity images than the Windows Snipping Tool
  • Ability to add boxes/arrows/highlights for emphasis
  • Ability to take short (less than 3 minute) videos, with system-sound recording. Robust video editing not needed.
I don't mind using separate applications for screenshot and video capture, but if there's an all-in-one solution, great.

SnagIt checks all the boxes, but it costs $50. While I'm generally not opposed to paying a reasonable amount for quality software, there are just so many capture utilities out there. Are there ones that you use and particularly like?

PicPick? Jing? Thanks.

OS x does all of that natively except combo screen video w/ sound. Just FYI. I use Jing at work too, and it's perfectly lovely, but dunno about the cost.

Thanks, Brad and Jimbo, for your recommendations. Just a quick update: I discovered that Youtube makes it really easy to record screencasts with the added benefit that they're already on Youtube for easy download (.mp4) and sharing. You can also set them to private.

OSX would be my preference here, but the video content is Windows software so thought I'd keep it all native.
