Subban got 2/$5.75 from the Habs after his ELC. I'd imagine that what's we're looking at with Krug. Very comparable #'s.

I knew it was coming, but sucks Thornton's gone. He, along with Ference, was a big part of turning the franchise around and changing the culture.

Between here and everywhere.
Love the guy. He was a great Bruin. He was one of the guys you felt knew what it meant to wear the spoked B.

But he's not a good hockey player anymore. And the Bruins will be a better team without him.

Thanks for 2011.

Thank you, Shawn Thornton.  "One of the 20."  Great guy and I really enjoyed his stint with the B's.

He deserves his own thread. Sad to see his time with the team come to an end, but this is absolutely the correct decision.

I'll always remember his opening shift of game 3 of the Vancouver series. I was bummed they took Seguin out for him, but he hops on to the ice, fans go nuts, and he runs through Burrows in the corner. Pretty awesome sequence.

His backhand toe drag penalty shot goal is one of my all time favorite memories of him. Came out of absolute nowhere.

Well this is sad. When they came out of the lockout they offered STH a signed stick of the player of our choice. So we have a signed Shawn Thornton stick in our living room.
Great guy, great Bruin, but yeah, probably time for him to move on I guess. This is one of those times where I would make a shitty GM.

I look forward to being part of a hell of an ovation when he comes back with whoever signs him. And even moreso to his next career working with the Bruins foundation or whatever.

sliding loved to take pictures of him because of his great facial expressions

This sucks but it is the right move. Didn't really bring much on the ice this year. Any one think he'll just retire? It seems to me (based on nothing except observation) he wasn't looking for fights as much since the Scott incident. Hockey Fights has him at 10 this year ,which is more than I remember, and 8 last year. Those are the least of his time in Boston but of course he had the injury last year and suspension this year. Love the guy and he's a smart player but if he isn't fighting he isn't helping much.  He seems to love the Boston area and would make a great addition to the media locally. I really hope he sticks around

He's going to find a place in the NHL somewhere on a fourth line for at least one more season most likely, maybe two.  He'll totally be welcomed back as a coach or member of the Bruins organzation in a few years though.

I had the pleasure of meeting him before the game in Phoenix.  Really nice guy, stopped to sign autographs and chat with almost everyone who asked, even though he was a little late getting to the arena.

He will be missed, but I agree with those who think it was about that time.  Good luck to him, wherever he ends up.

I loved that move so hard.

I loved him as a Bruin. Bummer it's over, but both parties are better off severing the relationship. I look forward to seeing him in a few years in Tony Amonte's seat, and having a solid role in the Boston media. His call in out of the blue to T&R this morning was pretty solid. I liked his counter to the anti-fighting crowd that the "trend" would swing back like it did after Carolina won in 2006 to teams more like his Anaheim teams and this Bruins team. I think Fred was genuinely touched that he called in, as he was saying he would have never asked him to come on after having the Bruins cut ties with him. He was great (as always) in the interview, so it's only a matter of time until he's doing pretty steady TV work.

The little town of Bethlehem.
Justin Bourne writes a decent piece about Thornton. I think he glosses over 2011 Finals contributions and that, unlike most enforcers, he wasn't quite the pylon .

I love this line, as homer-ish as that may be: Few teams in recent history have seemed so united in their “go after one of our guys, and the rest of us are coming” stance.
