I wanted to @ him with this, but for some, unknown reason, he blocked me.Boston Globe columnist Ron Borges was appalled by the Patriots’ first two selections in the 2001 NFL Draft, grading their draft a D-.
“You hate to fail anyone who shows up for class but what are they doing? If you didn’t know better, you’d think the Jets sent Bill Belichick north to destroy the Patriots from within. On a day when they could have had impact players David Terrell or Koren Robinson or the second-best tackle in the draft in Kenyetta Walker, they took Georgia defensive tackle Richard Seymour, who had 1 1/2 sacks last season in the pass-happy SEC and is too tall to play tackle at 6-6 and too slow to play defensive end. This genius move was followed by trading out of a spot where they could have gotten the last decent receiver in Robert Ferguson and settled for tackle Matt Light, who will not help anytime soon.”
It's not a bad point, generally. Aaron Donald is perhaps the best DT ever and he's just 6'1, although other guys at the top of that mountain (Alan Page and Joe Green at 6'4, Merlin Olsen and Bob Lilly at 6'5) aren't that far away from Seymour at 6'6.The shorter offensive lineman theoretically has better leverage.
It's the age-old dilemma. Shorter body means better leverage, as the shorter guy can get lower than the taller guy. BUT, longer arms are also better, as it creates more separation between the two. So the perfect lineman is shorter, but has longer arms. All this is theoretical of course, and there are plenty of exceptions. Not to mention that every coach has different wishes for physical abilities. It's not a bad point, generally. “I led the league for like the first four games with Rex Grossman at quarterback,” Terrell said of his final season in Chicago. “Until Rex Grossman breaks his foot against Minnesota. Did you forget that? I think you musta’ forgot about that. Man, I led the league in like every category basically until Rex broke his foot. When Rex broke his foot, after that, the season was over. I caught, I mean, I had nine different quarterbacks after Rex Grossman. I caught a ball from nine different quarterbacks in one year. Did you forget that?”[\quote]
lol.I mean it’s shocking that Terrell didn’t have a HoF career. Of course it wasn’t his fault, just ask him.
