4 1/2 hour rain delay in Cleveland before they resumed in the 4th. Ghost town in the stadium.

I guess they had no off day in common the rest of the season that would have been approved, so they had to get this in if at all possible.

Right, it makes far more sense than the long rain delay a couple of weeks ago for a game that never started between the White Sox and Guardians when they have a really convenient shared off-day coming up where Cleveland is at home between series and Chicago simply has to stop in Cleveland between trips to Detroit and Minnesota.

Still, I'm out of town and was kind of shocked to see them still playing after I hadn't check the score in the past six hours.

Of course it went to extras, but it's over now. First pitch was 2:41, scheduled for 1:10 or so I think, so 10 hours at the park.

There was no delay at the start. It was scheduled for 2:40 PM. A normal Sunday start would be 1:10, but this one was scheduled around the Cleveland Air Show.

Going to the Padres-D-backs game in a few hours to heartily boo Machado. Any recommendations from the locals about visiting the stadium?

Pirates beating the Mets 8-2 in the 8th, a Mets loss and a Braves win in Oakland later tonight and they would be tied for the NL East lead.

Wasn't the prettiest game, but Framber Valdez managed to record his 23rd straight Quality Start last night. As mentioned in last month's thread, he's the third player since 2000 to have that many in a row, behind Arrieta (24) and DeGrom (26, which is tied for the all time record).

It looks like he probably has 4 starts left this season, assuming the Astros stick with a 5 man rotation. He's pretty fun to watch, too, if you haven't seen much of him this year.

Assuming Wainwright makes his next start and throws to Molina next week (the 14th) it'll be the 325th time that has happened, the most in MLB history for a battery.

5 hits for Moncada last night, including 2 HRs and a double off the wall in Oakland.

Teammate Dylan Cease, has received 27 runs of support in his last two starts. He’s given up zero.

If the list from Wikipedia is accurate:

Interesting list… Faber/Schalk and Spahn/Crandall were ones I guessed. It's a shame Cleveland only got one World Series championship (and one other appearance) out of that Feller - Wynn - Lemon (- Garcia) rotation. I've heard that Elston Howard used to cut baseballs on his shin guard buckles for Whitey Ford, but I was still expecting to see he and Berra on the list.

I didn't recognize the name Jim Hegan, so I looked him up (because he is on that list three times) and feel like a shitty baseball fan because of it. Pretty interesting career, regarded as one of the best defensive catchers of all time and, as a coach, was a mentor to one of SoSH's favorite pilots.

Not surprisingly the list is dominated by players from the era where players stayed with the same team. Having a rotation with long term guys like Feller, Wynn and Lemon helps a lot.

BTW - took me a minute with the favorite pilot line because I was trying to figure out the connection with @TrotWaddles and how that was even possible.

He also had a son Mike, who was an American League journeyman in the '70s – not much of a hitter, but he was a good fielding first baseman and also hit the first home run in Seattle Pilots history. I remember him well as a radio and TV broadcaster for the Indians. He even continued for a little while after he was diagnosed with the cancer that killed him in 2013.

Berra/Ford were teammates for 10 seasons that they played regularly. That does look like a likely combo

I can take leftys deep but I will concede that Ted Williams was a much better hitter than
I’ll ever be.

Tonight is Day #1 in the 12 days that could determine the AL Central -- 8 games in 12 days between the Twins and Guardians. Cleveland struck early with a 3-run bomb by the Big OG. Oscar Gonzalez made it 4-0 before I even knew the rain delay was over.

Dylan Bundy's slider might be the worst pitch in baseball. Gonzalez puts this one even deeper into the left field seats for the first multi-homer game if his career. 7-0 and Bundy doesn't survive the 5th.

Don't the Mets have the easiest remaining schedule in all of baseball? How are they blowing this? (Other than lolmets)

It’s hard to hold off a team that is on a run of 23-5. The Braves have a stacked lineup that wouldn’t look out of place in a much higher scoring era.
And a pretty solid pitching staff to go along with it. Their "reset" took four years, but they came back set up really, really well for a long time.

I know we don't want to talk about a reset around these parts, but I feel like what they have done is similar to what I expect to see from the Sox over the next half decade.

White Sox are 8-3 without La Russa. Only 1.5 games back for the AL Central lead. Went to their baseballref page to see how their young players are doing only to learn that 36 year old Johnny Cueto has a 2.87 ERA and 4 bWAR in 135 innings. I had no idea he was having such a great year. He has had such a strange career but up to 37.1 bWAR through 15 seasons.

It’s going to happen. They’re going to win the Central.

The Rangers left Kohei Arihara in for a 99 pitch start against the Jays. He made it through 3 innings and allowed 11 runs on 12 hits and 5 walks.
