Everyone should know that the Boo's came from fans who were in the club watching the press conf, not the media!
AND,  in the Nats past 4 losses the bullpen has allowed 20 runs from the 7th inning on.  Last night in the 7th alone, 35 of the 54 pitches were balls.
Rizzo has said that Williams will manage thru the year.

Drew Storen has completely justified the Papelbon trade.  You don't want any pitcher that emotionally fragile closing games for your team in the postseason as it always leads to heartbreak.  (see Benitez, Armando)
I see it the other way around.  Storen was completely dominant before Papelbon came aboard and has sucked in a set up role.  It's like he suffers from reverse Tazawa disorder.  That move was really puzzling to me.

Just as McCarver and his broadcast partner were declaring that Lester can't hit "at all," he got a pretty base hit. They were flabbergasted, as they seem to be about this entire series, which the Cubs seem to have a good chance of sweeping.

The wild card leads are so big for both teams that Chicago and Pittsburgh can now start lining up their rotation for Lester vs Cole in the playoff game. Pirates are already starting to do it. That game is going to be epic.

He was dominant in 2012 and 2014, too, then fell apart in the postseason both times.  I don't blame the Paps trade in the slightest.

This Cespedes tear is like Beltran in 2004 after the trade to the Astros. Unreal.
Mets altered his contract apparently. They can now negotiate a contract extension with him before he hits FA.

Matt Williams won't make it to the end of September
Little too late he should have been fired during their slump in early august. Rizzo keeping Williams around may be a fireable offense though Williams will take the hit not him

The opposite - they can now continue to negotiate after he hits FA.

To be more clear - as a part of his original contract, he had language inserted that he has to be released as a free agent (avoiding arbitration or a qualifying offer), which due to the rules of releasing players technically gave the Mets only 5 days after the end of the world series to negotiate with him before they would be officially barred from offering a contract until May 15th (obviously removing them from FA consideration).

Apparently his agents made the initial push, and since it's good for both player (having Mets involved can only be a positive) and team (unless the Mets were going to blow him away in those first 5 days, which no-one thinks is likely), both the players' union and MLB signed off on waiving that rule in this case.

Exactly - his contract gave the team owning his rights an exclusive window of 5 days after the completion of the World Series to sign him.  If they don't, they are precluded from doing so until May 15th or something.  That's the condition that was changed.

Edit:  too late.

Of other note, it's also time for one of the best-written threads of the year, as the playoff eliminations have started (hopefully cannonball still has time this year!)

There's a good chance the first six eliminated will all be from the NL too, lot of meaningless Sept NL games this year.

Pittsburgh still has three games against the Cardinals to close out the season. I wouldn't be ceding the NL Central race if I were them.

EDIT: Although I notice they do have a more difficult schedule overall than the Cardinals, who get a bunch of games against the Reds and Brewers. Both teams play the Cubs a lot.

“@chelsea_janes: Drew Storen slammed his locker shut after allowing the HR Wednesday. Broke his right thumb. Likely out for the season, Williams said.”

Oh nats.

A little blast from the past at the Big A in Anaheim.  Angels up 3-0, two out no one on in inning 9. Five hits and two walks later, a 5-3 loss to the Astros.  The crushing hit?  A three run pinch hit homer by Jed Lowrie making it 5-3.  Bob Grich was the Angels radio color commentator who mentioned "this is just like 1986!"  Heh, heh.

I hope he did not realize that his competition for the ball was Adrian. The fan was watching the ball, straight up as it came down, and he was pretty far back from the rail. I bet he thought it was another fan.

Samardzija gives up 10 runs on 11 hits in 3 innings. Do the chi sox offer him a qualifying offer?

Texas walks off against the Astros again. Rangers lead the AL West by a half-game. This road trip (two games remaining) is killing the Astros.

They have a nine-game homestand coming up, so it's not over. Looks like, though, that it will come down to the final week -- with the Astros in Arizona and the Rangers hosting the Angels

California. Duh.
Wood gave up 1 hit over 8 innings for the Dodgers, and only threw 78 pitches. Mattingly still went to Jansen, though.

Kang's injury, from MLBTR

The Pirates announced that Kang’s surgery will keep him away from competition for an estimated period of six to eight months. That would seem to make a return late in Spring Training the best possible scenario.
The procedure that was ultimately required, per the announcement, was a “reduction/internal fixation of a displaced lateral tibial plateau fracture with a lateral meniscal repair.

I thought this Jered Weaver/Kyle Seager situation was pretty funny.  Seager kind of cockily keeps asking for time, deliberately holding his hand up to Weaver.  Weaver obviously has had enough, and just plunks him

Continuously asking for time while in the batter's box... hmm.. where have I seen that before?
