King Felix doing his Cy young chances no favours. 7 earned runs and out of the game after 4.2, with 2 of his runners still on base with two outs.

EDIT: 8 earned runs total.
I think this puts Kluber on top, honestly.

Amazing night at the Ravine featuring 2 Justin Turner HRs and another by the "cooked" Matt Kemp.

Magic Number is down to 1 with Clayton Kershaw on the mound vs. Tim Hudson. Any other SoSHers going to be in attendance?

California. Duh.
5 of Greinke's 16 wins this season came against SF.

Kershaw is 7 strikeouts behind Cueto and Strasburg for the NL lead, despite making 7 fewer starts. Cueto is due to start the season finale and Strasburg may or may not get another start depending on if they want to rest him.  What this all means is that it's still possible Kershaw could win the NL Pitching Triple Crown despite only making 27 starts.

Aye. Grabbed some tickets off StubHub yesterday.  Had to bite the bullet and pay the exorbitant price of $25 to get into the top deck.  Excited to see the matchup and potentially the division clinching.

Chris Sale just plunked Victor Martinez in back. Benches empty. Lot of talking. Sale had been pointing to outfield bullpen, possibly complaining about Tigers stealing signs. If they are, it ain't working. Sox lead 1-0 in bottom of sixth.

Oops. The other Martinez doubles. Second and third with one out.

The A's offense really blows. Man on third nobody out and can't score. Another inning, first and second no out and squander. Lester not at his best today. 3 - 0 Angels.

The Mariners have to be kicking themselves for blowing this. They were handed a playoff spot on a sliver platter and said no thanks.

Hughes needs 210 IP for a bonus to kick in his contract. After pitching 8 strong today with 96 pitches, he finishes the year with.... 209.2 IP

Just a lazy half mill.

from COTS "performance bonuses: $0.25M each for 180, 195 innings pitched. $0.5M for 210 IP"

Not only that, but his leaving was the result of a rain delay. I wonder if they'll give it to him as a PR thing.

His manager says he won't use him out of the pen.

If the FO doesn't give it to him anyway, I'd think the clubhouse would be kind of pissed that they don't give him a out over the weekend.

Considering he has declined the chance to pitch the 1/3 an inning, it would be nice if the Twins stepped up and paid the bonus. It sounds as if he would have gone out for the 9th and earned it if not for the rain delay. I haven't seen anything saying they were pulling him after 8 regardless of rain delays.

Yes.  Or Jeter

Jeter will also receive the first Derek Jeter Award, given to the player who best represents the intangible qualities of Derek Jeter.

MLB also announced that the award, a bronze statuette of Jeter's hand and but extended batting stance, will be retired after this season -- making Jeter the first and only recipient of the prize

I wish that I thought Arizona had any chance of taking one, let alone two, games from St Louis this weekend, and potentially forcing them to play a one game playoff.

The As are in trouble again. Samarzija has given up three runs in 3 and 2/3 to the Rangers, who look reenergized since the departure of Ron Washington. Even if they make the post- season, I don't see them advancing, b/c they so rarely score runs. Dunn is a poor substitute for Cespedes. Reddick just got a leadoff single, so maybe good things could happen soon. . .

Now A's down 5-2 to Rangers With their offense not likely to comeback. Unless Angels hold off Mariners this comes down to last day of season.

But with this year's A's, they kind of are my team.

With the A's losing, the Mariners are on the cusp of pushing this to the last day.  They loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the 9th of a tie game...and don't get a run in.  They get a lead-off single in the bottom of the 10th, and get runners on 1st and 2nd with one out...and don't get a run in. Does anyone want this wild card spot?

edit: Ah, I see this is being covered in the more appropriate "playoff chase" thread.

Despite Altuve wanting to play and the Astros interim manager having him in the lineup as he chased the batting title, the tone-deaf Houston management at first ordered that Altuve not be in the lineup today. They reversed course soon thereafter

Interesting decision to let Cueto (at 107 pitches) bat in a 1-1 game in the Bottom of the 8th with a runner on 3rd and 1 out.

Of course, Cueto singles.

Looks like we aren't going to see a Game 163 tomorrow in either league.

I can see where Price was going with that (Cueto was going for his 20th win which would have been the sole bright spot of an otherwise dismal season for the Reds), but it wasn't like they were playing a meaningless game. If the Pirates had ended up winning 2-1, there may have been some explaining to do. But, it was a happy ending for everyone I guess.
