Marlins with 5 in the top of the 7th off Hendricks and reliever, up 5-1 now.

Pressly in for the attempted save, trying to end MIN's season, 3-1 HOU.

Reds don't score again, leaving the bases loaded with one out on a K and weak grounder. On to bottom 13!

Losing 18 straight playoff games if the astros get 1 more out has to be the most amazing stat in sports history

Won their division with a .600 winning percentage and don't even get to play in October.

I know we have a Twins fan here and I'm not trying to rub it in or be a jerk but it's really a significant level of futility.

Braves are going to win it this time, 1st and 2nd and no one out and the top of the order up.

Is this the Braves' first time with a man on third and less than two outs? Reds have had it often.

Luis Patiño is on the Padres post-season roster. I saw him pitch in San Jose last year. He's really good. I heard he was off-limits when the Padres were talking to the Sox about Betts.

Montoyo should have had Ryu out before the Renfroe bomb. Not good playoff managing.

And get those all baby blue unis outta the Trop.

Reminder that the Marlins have never lost a playoff series in their history. If they’re in, they win it all.

Paddack getting hammered in the first, 4-0 STL.
Without their two best pitchers, they didn't stand much of a chance in a short series. I was on that bandwagon, my stop is coming up tomorrow and I'll get off there. I think I transfer to Tampa Bay I suppose.

Hendriks came in to try to get six outs up 5-0, gave up a two run HR to Grandal and now it’s 5-2 in the 8th.

Hendriks took 27 pitches to get through the 8th even with that gift out. His season high is 29.

I think I'd be in favor of allowing two challenges to ball strike calls each game and simply using some agreed upon technology to call it. No video review. Just use the same technology ESPN or whatever uses and realize that while it might not be perfect it is there to backstop the game changing obviously wrong calls.

I really like this idea. Just put a button in each dugout and if you think a call was obviously wrong you hit the button and then a light pops up on the field somewhere indicating whether the call was correct or wrong. No conference needed, no need to involve New York, no stoppage in play at all more than a few seconds.

How much longer can Melvin stick with Hendricks? 15 pitches over his season high and clearly laboring. Even if they get through this game, he's torched his closer.

Same exact pitch, this time the ump gets it right and Moncada walks.

Hendriks is out after 49 pitches, bases loaded, two outs, Diekman in, 5-2 A's.

I don't have a problem with Melvin deciding that sometimes a game needs closing against the best hitters in the 8th. But what was his thinking for bringing him in for the ninth?

If you decide to use your closer in the 8th doesn't that mean you are also deciding that you aren't using him in the 9th? He played it both ways. Unless maybe he thought that he'd thrown so many pitches in the 8th he was burned for tomorrow anyway and might as well?

5 run lead though, I think you need to go with your main setup guy there first, or as you say, use someone else to start the 9th.

Diekman walks Grandal, 5-3, bases still loaded, now Abreu is up.

I think the goal was Hendriks for 6 outs. But the moment he hit 25 pitches to get out of the 8th, he should have had someone else warming regardless. Instead, he waited until Hendriks got over 40 pitches before he got Diekman up.

Abreu hits a one hop rocket right at the 2B, deciding game 3 tomorrow there.

It works great in Tennis and takes like 10 seconds. No reason not to.
