Using Cole on Sunday in a futile attempt to tie for the division seems like a pretty poor move now. And it did then too.

Volquez with 3.04 ERA over Coles 3.65 looks like a decent choice, until you look at xFIP which is 4.20 to Coles 3.25. Volquez has been dodging bullets all year and it caught up to him at the worst time.
