Interesting line up for tonight facing a RHP. Drew is 6-13 against Norris.

Holt 7
Bogaerts 6
Pedroia 4
Ortiz DH
Napoli 3
Nava 9
Sizemore 8
Herrera 6
Ross 2
Peavy 1

Drew's absence is a mystery. Perhaps he is hurt?

I'm also a little surprised to see Ross in there instead of AJP. Is there a Peavy connection, or is Farrell benching him today for the baserunning blunder?

None of the writers have said anything about why Drew is out. Or AJP or JBJ.

Ug, the Holt, Sizemore, Nava outfield has the potential to be atrocious.

Benching Bradley, AJP and Drew in favor of Sizemore, Herrera and Ross against a righty- calling that interesting is being kind.  Did Farrell make this many head scratching moves last year?  I don't recall being confused this often.

Putting two players at short and leaving 3B open is a bold strategy.

Seriously, everyone probably figured this out but Herrera will play short while Bogaerts continues to develop at 3B. He's looked good there lately, but I still don't understand sitting Drew...

Well, last time I screwed up the line up they won about 4 in a row. Hopefully, they will again. And yeah. XB is at 3B.

The Drew panic move is really paying dividends.  Hopefully he can get healthy in time for the Sox to trade him away in August.

So JBJ is getting an extended rest?

Wouldn't it make more sense to have Nava-JBJ-Sizemore man the outfield and to have Holt and X on the infield and get rid of Herrera? Herrera and JBJ is a wash at the plate, JBJ is at least a lefty, and that's got to be a better defensive alignment.

That makes sense.  Makes me think JBJ is dealing with something like Drew is.

Or Farrell is so stubborn about making the Drew thing work that he refuses to play Bogaerts at SS even when it makes for the best possible lineup.

I would bet that JF does not want Bogaerts bouncing between SS and 3rd...

Not pinch hitting Nava or Sizemore against a side arming right hander is a mistake even though Gomes reached on the error.

Large and in charge and without the Lotto winning results of 2013, the spotlight better be much brighter than it was in the Great White North.
Yah, I dont think its his fault that 98% of the lineup cant hit their way out of a paper bag

Sure, but his in-game managing was ridiculous last year, only he was managing a team of destiny. This year, he's making this less than great team worse.

Nobody's evaluating the manager based on the performance of the lineup.

People are evaluating the manager based on his decisions, which have been consistently questionable all season long.

Not that it mattered since the game was over, but you probably shouldn't be issuing intentional walks to load the bases with Chris Capuano. Both Machado and Schoop have been terrible while Capuano has control problems and doesn't get groundballs, so there's very little upside to doing this. He also continues to start Pierzynski vs. LHP (can we put the notion of him having a magic touch with RDLR to bed?) when this offense needs all the help it can get.

This team may not be able to hit its way out of a wet paper bag, but the manager sure as hell hasn't managed his way out of one.
