Once again Farrell leaves the starting pitcher in the game at least one batter too long.

All of us here know the difference between a good decision that doesn't work out and a bad decision.

Coming from you this is really awesome.  I laughed while wondering if it was intentional.

I don't think it was all that bad a decision was my point. It just looks horrible in hindsight. Markakis was 0-3 until then and Lackey was at something like 110 pitches. It's not Farrell's best decision but I think there's worse examples of leaving guys in too long.

110 pitches in 5-1/3 innings is a lot different from 110 pitches in 7 innings. Also, Markakis traditionally has a pretty large split. Plus, I'm not sure it was even a good decision to let Lackey start the inning.

The bullpen was fresh after two days off and Lester's effort in the day game. I'm not saying I agree with you entirely, but it's tough to justify pushing a starter who isn't even into the 7th past 110 pitches when your pen is full strength and very rested.

I'd probably agree with the pitch count argument if he had gotten there by being wild but he ended up at 120 pitches with 82 of them for strikes. Marakakis was his only walk, and really, that was just a good AB. I'm not trying to argue that there was absolutely no reason for Farrell to go to pen in that spot, just that it's not completely erroneous.
