I'll be relieved if the Sox take 2 of the 4.  I don't have a lot of faith in Buch or Doubie right now, although the Sox offense could certainly get back on track against Nova on Sunday night.

I honestly hope that tonight's game is a laugher, one way or the other - I'd hate to see Lester and/or Lackey saddled with a loss because Clay craps the bed again and the bullpen gets gassed in the opening game.

Hope we can ruin Pineda's first start at the Nouvelle Toilette.

He pitched well in his first MLB start since 2011, giving up 1 ER and 5 hits over 6 IP (5 K/0 BB). If one start is any indication, he's a slightly different pitcher than he was 3 years ago. FB velocity down 1.3mph (though apparently there are questions about the radar fun used), and relied much more in his cutter and slider than he had back then (he threw those two pitches 60% of the time last week, as opposed to 35% in 2011).

I imagine Nava hits lead off?

Ells batting 3rd? after Capt Intagibles? Breaking apart Gardner and Ellsbury doesn't make any sense to me, but thanks!

L-R-L is the biggest reason, I'm sure.

yeah realized that after I posted but still happier with that set up than with BG and JE back to back to start, both are good OBP and terror on the bases.

Clay, as a RHP, throwing 90 mph meatballs in that stadium, is a disaster waiting to happen.  I don't expect much more velocity in a few days, so we just need to hope that he can keep the ball down.  If he can do that, he can maybe give us the old 5 IP 2-3ER start that we need from him.  Luckily, this Yankee lineup is scuffling, and he won't have to face Tex.  Beltran and McCann might torture him though.  And Ellsbury, oh God, Ellsbury.

Koji was playing long-toss with Tazawa pre-game with no reported issues.

Cross-posting my comments from the Game Thread, where everyone was either scratching their heads or panicking over the move...

Jesus, the consternation and confusion and nervousness in here is ridiculous. The Sox can't have Koji close every fucking save opp like he did for 5 months last year. That's why they signed Mujica, to take some pressure and wear & tear off and keep Koji fresh, as well as to serve as insurance in the event something happens depth-wise.

I expect Farrell to do nothing more than shrug at his postgame press conference and brush this off as no big deal while saying "That's what he's here for."

Seriously, I don't think there's anything to see here. Just another case of this team finding roles for everyone.

Shoulder stiffness in pregame. Hopefully just precautionary not putting him in.

Koji Uehara felt stiffness in his shoulder during pregame long-toss. "Precautionary" decision to not use him tonight, Farrell said

Could only watch on Gameday, but seemed like Lester should have come out after losing Roberts, but I guess it's Lester, he's in a walk year, yada yada. It worked out, but boy when it said "In Play Run(s)" I can't say a game-tying 3 run HR didn't come to mind.

It's Lester and he's one of JF's 21-out guys. I think Dubrount or Workman gets the hook in that situation.
