Curt, your fans in Nova Scotia and especially those in the Bluenose BoSox Brotherhood, are praying for you as you undergo this battle. We will never forget that you sent us a message of congratulations when we formed our group back in 2005 nor will we forget how you sent a message of hope and encouragement to one of our members who in 2008 was battling ALS. He played that message over and over until the end. You have done so much for others off the field who have had to battle through adversity. My hope is that we as Red Sox fans can give you the same kind of encouragement that you gave to countless others. So on behalf of our membership of almost three hundred Nova Scotians, all the best and if anybody can kick this in the butt it is you Curt. God bless you and your family.

I just wanted to add one more thing, we had an elderly member who was in health decline and was being honoured by his community here in Nova Scotia for his contributions. Curt sent him a beautiful letter that our member treasured until his passing. These stories are just ones that I know, how may times he reached out to offer words of encouragement and hope to others we will never know because he did this without any fanfare. Hoping our love creates a positive aura around you as you go through this.

Best of luck with the treatments, Curt.  Thank goodness you're in the best location in the world to be for someone who is sick with this (or any) terrible disease, considering the great hospitals and research centers in the Boston area.

And anyone who wants to help fight cancer, to help Curt and future generations, here's a link to our ongoing thread at SoSH raising money for Dana Farber Cancer Research and other important charities.

Show your care with love, support, and money.

Just to elaborate, all three of our charities support anti-cancer efforts. Dana-Farber is obvious. The MGH team (Spelunker) fundraises specifically for the Pediatric Oncology & Hematology Center, and the Patriots Foundation (Preacher) is involved in Dana-Farber's blood and platelet donation drive (it's called the Kraft Family Blood Donor Center, after all), arranges for players to visit patients, etc.

Thanks a ton guys. I have a shattered left finger or I'd type more, but I wanted to thank you for all the well wishes and Yep for the post earlier. Bone Chips that was pretty cool too.
I am hoping in some small way that I might be able to post here and keep it here, if so that would be great.
I am having surgery tomorrow and will begin chemo/radiation this week (10 or so days faster than I was expecting) and i'll drop in and update anyone interested.
Again my sincere thank you and prayers and well wishes to all you and yours.
Curt
Cancer sucks.

Best wishes. Go kick some cancer ass. I hope you're able to beat it and recover well.

No kidding...where are those? I just searched the Members Only archive to no avail. Such a shame Tony M spoiled it.

Welcome back, Curt, and best wishes from my family to yours. I hope you can find some time to talk baseball with us, if you'd like.

Awesome. Always great to have surgery out of the way.

Still more to do, of course. But that's still a pretty big thing that you got done.
Know that we're still thinking about you, and have full confidence that you can do this.

Again, my thoughts and prayers are with Curt.

And maybe a bit late but props to "yep" on a well written post that reflects our thoughts better than most of us could have put it.  Curt Schilling delivered to Boston Red Sox fans something that most of us thought was nearly impossible, at a time when they had to achieve what no team in baseball had ever done, and did it with one leg stitched together by an experimental procedure no one was sure would work.  And to top it off, he did it again for one more game to ultimately help deliver the first world championship in 86 years.

Here's hoping everything goes well.  Please kick cancer in the butt Curt.

Good luck to you Curt, you seem like you come from a family of fighters and I think there's no one better suited to take cancer on and thoroughly kick its ass.

Curt,
The first game I saw at Fenway as an adult was a game in September 2004, about 10 rows off the field. You pitched 8 strong, struck out 14 or so, and the Sox won on a walkoff. Ever since then, pitching has been my favorite part of baseball, in large part because of you. That's not even without mentioning what happened in the postseason.

You're a goddamn Boston hero. Go get this shit.

Curt from the little that we REALLY know about you, it's clear that you have a will to persevere the obstacles in your life and your family is no stranger to what it takes to face cancer. Few of us here can tell you first hand as to what to expect or how to handle this. In fact it's a very personal thing that each faces in his or her own way, but I hope the collective SOSH gives a good showing of what unexpected and unsolicited support can add when the chips are down. We're an amazing assortment of  individuals who often are able to set aside life for a bit to take up for our own. Strength in numbers Curt. Be well and God bless you and yours.

G38, God, it's so amazing to know that I'm writing and you're going to read it. I hate doing this part, I never know what to say. Anyway, I think you're awesome. One of the best of all time. I mean, you beat the Yankees in the World Series. God!

Anyway, do you 'member when you were pitching and running toward first base and you hurt your ankle? And then you pitched with that sock? 'member?

And then Arod slapped the ball out of Bronson's glove and the umpires like huddled up and called him out? The look on his face! He was like "whaaa?? I was running really hard with my arms like this" haa ha! 'member that?

And then, do you remember when you won the World Series? And when Manny tripped in the outfield? And 'member it was a red solar eclipse? That was awesome!

Curt, I have no idea what I can add here that has not already been said, but know that my prayers are with you and your family at this time.  May God guide the doctor's hands and minds and help you beat this insidious disease.

May God bless you and keep you in these trying times. I lost the love of my life to pancreatic cancer, but never my faith. Kick the living shit out of this monster like a bear kicking a shark...wait, was it a shark or a bear? Good times in P&G....

Sending healing thoughts your way, Curt. You've done the impossible before so this is just another challenge that will help you grow.
And thank you for 2004. I never thought I'd live to see the day that the Red Sox won the World Series and like every other New Englander, it altered my life forever in a very good way.

Not much to add. Just watched my mom beat breast cancer for the second time. Nearly lost her when I was 10, but she beat it then and beat it now. All that to say that I'm sure your kids are scared in ways they don't know how to show.

Keep telling 'em and showing 'em: Life will be different, but it will still be life.

Beating cancer's a team sport, and you've got a great team.  My best to the whole team.

Curt,
I know I'm simply adding yet another voice to the choir, but I'll be rooting for you.

When you came to the Sox during the winter of 2003, I remember watching you in that car commercial saying you've come to break an 86-year-old curse and thinking, "Man, who would put that kind of pressure on himself?"  And then you came through, in the most improbable of ways, with some amazing performances despite your injuries.  If anyone can beat this thing, it's you.

Best of luck.

Great.

Now we're stuck with you?

Get better, man. Enjoy the hospital ice cream and sponge baths from sexy nurses, and then get back to doing what you do best.

Kicking ass.

Seriously Curt I hope you beat the shit out of this disease. It took my fathers life way too early and I wish you nothing but the best. You are obviously a fighter and I hope you and your family nothing but strong thoughts and prayers. You have a strong, HOT wife who will be by your side, an awesome family and a ridiculous amount of people who will be pulling for you. You got this Schill.

Curt,

Love your attitude. If I can say one thing about cancer which I had almost fourteen years ago in 2000--did the surgery, chemo and radiation, yeah yeah, the whole nine yards-- it is a bitch on the one hand, but just another journey on the other. I know you are no stranger to this but it helped me to remember that it took a year to get back my full 100% energy. Here I am, well, healthy and living life to the fullest

With all your incredible gifts and talents, not to mention your strength, you'll handle the lows, I am sure of that. My favorite quote from a friend: "Never be afraid of dying, just of losing your hair and throwing up."  Hair grows back. The body repairs itself. Love helps the mind and soul.

Bless you.

Curt - I know you already know this, and I don't need to tell you this, but still it bears repeating - you're going to be relying very heavily on your wife through this. I can't even begin to imagine what I ever would have done without my wife while I was going through my cancer.

So, while you will be relying heavily on her through this, make sure to constantly let her know how appreciative of her you are. She'll probably get sick of you saying it eventually, but it's still important to say.

Curt...While you have some down time, take a few moments to go back and watch the highlights from 2004 and remind yourself how you stared adversity in the face and came out on top. And, oh yeah, how you changed the lives of millions of Sox fans while doing so.

Praying for a speedy recovery.

The surgery is limiting your speech for a couple days?  That's nothing.  I once saw a man make "55,000 people from New York shut up."   Now that was legendary.

Get well Curt.  Everybody is pulling for you.

Well said.
Fight like hell, Curt. Go the distance and come out on top.

Glad to hear surgery went well. Hopefully the board can provide you with a fraction of the joy you provided most of us while you're in your recovery process.

I'm not a religious man, but you are definitely in my prayers.

Curt, So glad to hear that the your surgery went well and that you are awake and reading the boards. My family is keeping you and your family in our prayers. My soon to be 10 year old rubbed the cap on his Schilling McFarlane figure today and said an extra prayer for you.

Good, good thoughts for you Curt.  I think you understand what you did to change the lives of so many of us who cared so much and suffered so long.  I was in Yankee Stadium at Game 7 in 2003, and after 40 years of disappointment I thought I had really finally had too much.  And really, that was the last bad day for Red Sox fans.  You were such a big part of that, I wonder if you can understand how much that meant to so many people.  If gratitude and warm thoughts directed toward you can heal, you will have an easy time of it.  Best always.

Dear Curt, words cannot express all you did for us in 2004 and 2007.  It was life changing.  Thank you.

I'm confident you'll win this battle.  Keep your head up high and stay strong.  I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Getting through the surgery is one win.  Let's go get a few more.

As we all know, winning 8 in a row when your back is against the wall is something you've done before....
