I am bumping this thread on ring day because of G38 - this warrior's contributions to the franchise.  Whether or not 2013 happens without Schilling's earlier wins is debatable, but rocking the decade is largely on his shoulders, heart, back and ankle.

We missed you in the ceremony big guy, and are looking forward to seeing you front and center for the 2014 Ring festivities.

Hey man, all I know is that Curt is at the center of my two worst baseball memories. Before game 6, my uncle calls me up and goes "you ready for tonight? There's no fucking way they win....." And then with a shred of doubt "even if they do, they won't win against us game 7."

After Curt won that game, Damon's grand slam was a formality. Yanks were cooked.
That was Randy Johnson. Alfonso Soriano nearly made Curt the loser on a splitter that nearly bounced in the dirt.

God bless him!   He looks good for a guy going through what he's going through.

Looks like he lost a ton of weight but chemo is a tough way to lose it

Thanks a ton guys. I have a shattered left finger or I'd type more, but I wanted to thank you for all the well wishes and Yep for the post earlier. Bone Chips that was pretty cool too.
I am hoping in some small way that I might be able to post here and keep it here, if so that would be great.
I am having surgery tomorrow and will begin chemo/radiation this week (10 or so days faster than I was expecting) and i'll drop in and update anyone interested.
Again my sincere thank you and prayers and well wishes to all you and yours.
Curt
Wish you all the best Curt. Now give Cancer a Game 6 ass kicking!

Another photo of G38 posted this afternoon by Shonda Schilling, this of him with a couple surprise visitors.

How much weight he's lost is really apparent standing next to Mirabelli, who always had (and still has) a similar portly build to Schill in his prime.

But it does look like Mirabelli still likes the chicken parm...

As someone who's wife was just diagnosed with cancer, I say best of luck G38! I only wish I was the one fighting it and not her but it is what it is. I take encouragement from people like Curt who are fighting the good fight and kickin some major ass! Get well Curt and best of luck to you!

Great to see Dougie & Mrs. Parm showing support. Thoughts to you and your family, SiM.

Anyone know what team's logo is on Schilling's hat? It's a bird of some sort, resembling a horizontally-reversed image of the Baltimore Ravens' logo (which no Steeler fan in his right mind would ever be wearing).

Just a guess, but the team that he is a softball coach for?

I had assumed Eagles based on the colors, but a youth team he was coaching would make more sense.

Per Dale & Holley, Shonda has tweeted that Curt is back home after 39 days of treatment. Go, G38!

SoSHer STP can't post in here at the moment, but PM'd me to report that the hat logo mystery has been solved:

In a widely circulated photo that was shown during Sunday night’s Red Sox-Yankees game on ESPN, Curt Schilling was shown in the hospital where he is being treated for cancer.

And if you looked closely enough, you might have noticed that the former Red Sox pitcher was wearing an Endicott College baseball hat. The hat didn’t say “Endicott,” but it did feature the college’s Gull logo.

Schilling is now a fan because his son Gehrig will be attending the college in the fall, according to Gehrig’s Twitter account. Schilling himself was spotted on campus a few months ago.

Ability to make 55,000 New Yorkers to shut up in a single game.

Glad to hear that he's out of the hospital.  He looks awful thin and very tired from the treatments.  Let's hope he can get back on his feet to start calling games and help Gehrig move into Endicott in the Fall.

Great news! I can't begin to imagine what he has been through. My heart goes out to the families having gone and going through this type of ordeal.

Fantastic news, as someone who went through a bout with cancer I know how incredible those words are to hear.  Curt if you read this I hope your 5 years flies by and your results stayed as good as my own.

Excuse my ignorance on such matters but what is the 5 year clock?  It he goes the next 5 years without it coming back, than it probably means its not coming back?

The first 5 years involve regular scans and check ups. I'm coming up on 4 years and have been having CT scans every 6 months. I'm scheduled for only one more CT scan at 5 years from end of chemotherapy. Then I only come back if I don't feel well.

Awesome, awesome news!

Had no doubt whatsoever that you would get through this, and likewise have no doubt you'll be able to keep it out of there for the 5 years, and the rest of your long life.

I'm heading over to Dana Farber and Brigham & Women's next week for my 3-year MRI. I try not to think about it during the times in between, but it gets nervous when the time approaches for it. They're great people over there though.

If you go 5 years you're considered "cured".

I'm not sure that's really based on science.

Speaking from my own family experience.....I think they're looking forward, not back. When they say you're in remission, what they're saying is that there's a low percentage chance of it returning within 5 years.  When they say "cured" they're saying they're pertty sire it *won't* come back within 5 years.  Basically, 5 years is as far out as doctors will go with almost all cancers.

Shut up 50,000 MFY fans and beat cancer? Not a bad resume.

Way to go Curt. All the best to you and your family.
