Butler did something he shouldn't have and I have no doubt it wasn't the first time and he knew better. That's my guess, anyway.

Butler is a free agent and obviously won't be back, he'll talk.
I can't imagine whatever he did it was worth sitting him all game, makes no sense.

I’m wondering if he didn’t have the flu, but missed the team plane.

Remember that time the pats almost forced a three and out and Bademosi whiffed on a tackle? That was fun. Hope Malcolm learned his lesson!

He played special teams. I doubt this was disciplinary. He has been the #1 target of opposing QBs all season.

This one will, and should be, second guessed. Swallow your damn pride and get him in the game. Rowe was awful.

It's amazing that the most covered sporting event in the world and not a single reporter has the scoop

In Bill we trust but if he sat Butler just to make a point I really don't respect that. It's about winning and not anything else. You don't damage your chances of winning to make a point. It's not fair to the other players.

It was 100% disciplinary, he played 98% of defensive plays up until this game where he played 0%.

I bet he missed the team plane and lied about having the flu and being in the hospital.

Rowe would have been on the same guy.

If he was benched for disciplinary reasons I really think BB needs to get his head examined. I mean for fucks sake, play the god damn game and make him walk back to Foxboro if you need to but talk about cutting off your nose to spite you face. Damn.

Rowe was on Jeffrey most of the first half and he was awful. Put Gillmore on him, like they did in the second half and Butler on Agholor. Take Rowe out.

BB just said he was benched for FOOTBALL REASONS. NOT disciplinary reasons.

Butler not talking with the Media.

He was crying during the anthem.
Yep he knew he wasn't playing, something was off. Last time Bill benched a player pats got embarrassed by jets.
Bill's pride may have well cost them 2 more SB. Guess that is the price to pay for genius.

BB is lying.

Edit: Butler wasn't great this year but if anyone thinks he is suddenly behind Jonathon Bedemosi in the depth chart then they are incredibly gullible.

Bingo. If it was a disciplinary matter and you want to make some grand statement, you don’t play him on special teams either. There is no half pregnant on something like this.

Well, maybe it isn't enough for some people but its enough for me. BB has earned that, to say the least. Butler's absence wasn't the reason the Patriots lost this game. It was the absence of the entire defense. They needed stops and didn't get them. Maybe Butler changes that and maybe he doesn't. Given how he has played this season, I am not sure him playing would have made a difference.

Jeffrey had 3 receptions on 8 targets and 70 yards. The TD catch was perfectly thrown and a nice catch. I dunno.

Bullshit. The defense was torched tonight, and the team benched its second-beat cornerback for seemingly no reason. If Butler is on the field it’s an entirely different secondary and maybe they manage to get ONE stop in second half

I don't have any idea why butler didn't play but I'm going to speculate on it and claim BB is an idiot for benching him.

Yes but one of those was the long TD and the other was the big play on the sidelines. You can probably argue that, given the way the D played all night, changing the results on those plays ultimately wouldn’t have mattered but I have no doubt Gilmore prevents those 2 receptions

Apparently Pedersen does, so if this is the story, BB is a vainglorious clown on this one. He is also a hypocrite because his mantra is always the line about doing what is best for the team. F that in this situation. Best for the team is play Butler.
One game does not give someone the biggest swinging dick.

This, we needed one stop or even just hold them to an extra FG, if butler was sick don't activate him, SB is a bad stage to make a point, your face wants to know how your nose feels

Well, I am glad you are so certain. I am never certain of these things but I don't view it as bullshit. The problem here is neither of us can prove our position so I guess we are at an impasse.
