Peak Felger was in the mid 2010s right after Red Sox eliminations. He seemed to channel the appropriate anger against Lucchino/Henry/Werner and connected with the consensus.

Don’t forget that Jim Murray on F&M is even worse than Jones at his worst. It’s a race to the bottom between those two.

Keefe went from sidekick to Jones to DRIVE TIME and then got destroyed in the rating by F&M, like 1 listener to 4 bad.
I saw going from 3rd chair on drive time to named host of middays as a promotion but I agree with your overall point. I love Keefe and I get why a lot of people don’t, it’s a results business. Unless Jones takes it down about 4 notches of vulture, which he actually can, I don’t see him succeeding but what do I know.
One distinction that might be notable is that Murray is a massive man child. I've heard people talk about Jones and that when he's not on the radio how he's actually a great human being. Murray however throws tantrums when he's inconvenienced in some slight way. Just last week he talked about having had two suspended driving licenses because he's always in a hurry and gave a shout out to a Melrose cop who watched him run a stop sign and pulled him over but didn't give him a ticket after recognizing him. Just an absolute spoiled brat.
There was one weekend he was so proud that he went to Starbucks, they didnt Have his order out and said fuck it I’ll just take someone else’s and they can deal with it. Seems like a selfish prick.
Just to clarify, i think we're on the same page as far as who we like and don't like for the most part on sports radio. i think if this website was in control of a radio station we wouldn't produce better ratings on a dying medium. i think Keefe is screwed, mutt brought up no co hosts and they took all his good guests like Curran and that ex nfl player and moved them to earlier time slots. He only has a job until his contract ends, that's the pattern

Yeah, Mego doesn't do much for me personally. I thought the pairing of her with Lou and Fauria was awkward and flimsy from the few times I tried to tune in. Not sure pairing her with Jones is going to be any better and may even be worse. But I guess they have to TRY and do something.
In Case You Missed It (Which was mainly Arcand running it), This Week in Social Media (TWISM which was also Arcand led) some of the other Game of Jones stuff that wasn't serious. Any segment where he's really dishing takes was awful and he doesn't even hide it. At times Arcand would keep him in line with a "you don't even really believe that" type comments.
I wonder how long it takes for Jones to just dismiss her because she's a woman out loud.

You don't get ratings with these shows doing all sports talk and no personality these days, conflict and drama sell. That's why the ratings peaked when Spaz entered the picture, he added a wtf just happened element to the show that they have not been able to recreate since. I know some hate spaz but there is no doubt he added to the shows success. Just the poor guy thought he was doing a solid bringing in the local strip club talent for the boys
I mean D&C and the Big Show was just so far ahead of anything this station has now it is crazy.
I mean I guess you could say D&C were so far ahead of anything now in that as much as Greg Hill is a bad person who hosts a terrible show, D&C were truly shitty human beings that aired a show as bad as they were people.
Greg Hill is terribly miscast in hosting a morning show on a sports radio station. But why do you say he's a bad person? (Obviously I'm ignorant on this subject.)
Great news. I never listen to EEI, and it removes him from the T&R guest host rotation. Win win.
I like McCarthy but he's really just a baseball guy, and I'd be surprised if they went with a strict baseball guy right now. I like Murray more than most, and I think a night time show fits better for him since he can talk non sports all day.
I suppose a reason 98.5 won't go all the way to syndication in the evening is due to the Bruins and Celtics. They also want to compete with WEEI's live body now that Keefe is confirmed for their slot. I don't know if Jones was making all that much so it's clear that 98.5 is running a barebones operation now per their corporate overlords. I have to wonder if these evening slots may eventually become pre/post-game blasts by junior staff with syndication on non-gamedays.
As of a couple days ago, the official show lineup on the 98.5 app still lists 6 pm as Adam Jones, but now they took his name off the slots. Tonight, it's Tim McKone and Friday it's Joe Murray.
I agree with this. The whole situation is baffling.
I haven’t caught Keefe yet but I’ve listened to the first couple Arcand and Meg O shows and it just isn’t working at all. I’ll give it time to see if it works, but I don’t see how adding Jones helps. Meg O talks so damn much. There’s no dialogue. She just goes for 3-4 min straight and Arcand goes “yup” or “ok”. Jones and Arcand can do 5 hours with nothing going on at night. I don’t see how all 3 get air time together.
Mego is fingernails down a chalkboard to me, it's one thing when she was the 3rd wheel and Lou and Christian would constantly have to talk over her because she wouldn't shut up, but now with her in the main seat yikes. Christian is not fitting in with Gresh, he started going on with wrestling thing today while i listened at lunch and Christian you could tell was just disconnected from it. Keefe i think just realizes that he was put into the dead end, go nowhere spot!
I'm semi-confident that the new management at WEEI will figure it out, since it was Mike Thomas that drove 98.5 but in the short term this seems painful and I'm giving it a real shot. I haven't listened to much of WEEI for a decade outside of some Keefe Middays. MegO seems like she's on a solo show, wants to talk 14 minutes straight and not get any dialogue. I just dont know where she fits in. I'd put her on Middays and let Jones and Arcand run afternoon drive. I love having a female voice in here, but she doesn't fit at the moment.
His contract ended at the end of 2022. Doubt there's any legal way to have a non-compete clause incorporated when not under contract.
I liked her as the straight man with Lou and Christian. Lou was the grump, Christian was the goof, and MegO was the one who kept them in line and actually did the work of a radio professional — getting in and out of breaks, bringing in guests, handing off, etc.
Not being a dick, or saying it's the case, but isn't that exactly what a non compete is?
I don't think you can have a non-compete in MA without compensating the person, but I believe non-competes are not allowable in MA for broadcasters anyway, per an excellent post in V&N by @Was (Not Wasdin)
