Madison Bumgarner is currently doing an interview with the local Giants affiliate and has a huge wad of dip in his mouth. He stopped to spit about nine times, including mid-sentence.

I saw him in the dugout with the same. WTF, MLB? Not OK to show folks smoking, but no prob having a wad the size of a hockey puck in your mouth? Way to set an example for the kids (assuming any are watching anymore)

Schilling on ESPN was talking about Bumgartner after getting out of the jam in the third inning, "I'm walking off the mound there thinking the game is over, they just don't know it yet." (Paraphrasing a little.)

It had to hurt that the team that has won twice recently blew out the Cinderella team from the first inning thanks to Not So Big Game James.  Once Bumgarner got out of the third inning jam, that game seemed over.

It does make me sad whenever I see the current ratings numbers compared to those of my youth, when World Series games were capable of winning the night, or at least coming close.

It is possible for the World Series to have both the lowest ratings ever and still be the most-watched thing that night. TV ratings are down across the board. I am not an expert on this stuff, but by my reading the Series ratings were second only to the Voice last night among 18-49 year olds. The NCIS 8-10pm block also beat the game, but I will note that on the West Coast the game was over by then.

I would take McCarver back. Can't believe I'm saying it, but there it is. Mostly because Harold is so awful. But also because, as insufferable as McCarver started to get, he and Buck has some chemistry. They genuinely seemed to like each other and had almost a father son thing going on, which is a vibe I associate with baseball. Don 't get me wrong, I'd rather have Eck. But this booth stinks. Maybe I'm just forgetting how bad he was.
Yes, you are forgetting how insufferably smug TimMc was.

But I don't think it matters who Fox hires, so long as the Fox marketing machine (or whateve) sets the rules.
Rules that seem to be designed to deliver an "emotional soundtrack" type of commentary.  Where contradictions, often less than a minute apart, are not a problem. The goal has got to be keeping the idly curious viewer "engaged". The committed fans, who actively hate such blather, ARE going to stick around no matter what.

Alas, if only the varying delays didn't make it  hard to sync the radio with the TV.

“@BillShaikin: Fox: In Kansas City, 68% of TV sets in use last night were tuned to #Royals. In SF? 50%.”
