Unlike most NL teams, the Giants are perfectly-situated to play with a DH, as they'll use Michael Morse there.

Unfortunately, barring some kind of miracle start from Peavy, Hudson or Vogelsong, I don't think the Giants have the starters to make this a series.

I think Bumgarner is going to mow down the Royals in his 2 starts and I trust him a hell of a lot more than Shields.  KC hasn't had to beat an ace since Lester.  I'd give the Royals the edge in the other games, but not enough to predict that they sweep through them.

I picked Giants in 6, but if KC beats Bumgarner in Game 1 look out.

I want KC to sweep the postseason.  Partly because MFY fans always brag about the 1998 team going 11-1 in the postseason, and I'd like to be able to respond "big deal, KC didn't lose a game in 2014".

Also, partly because SF has two titles in the last 5 years and really, their team this year doesn't deserve another one.  They're practically the 2006 Cardinals.

This is the main point.

in my pants...
I was born in KC, when my Dad was stationed there.  Moved to NH when I was like six months old when my Dad was transferred to Hanscom.  With the number of older brothers I have, the name George Brett reverberated around the house for a good decade plus of my youth.  So even though my fondness of Bruce Bochy is strong, it is simply no match for my Dan Quinsenberry, Bret Saberhagen, and Willie Wilson love.  Not to mention Tony Pena's last redeeming quality with me, coaching the last good Royals team before this one.
The painted concrete (that Wilson et. al. used to pound high choppers into every night) is long gone now, but I'll stick with the Royals, if for no other reason than this is the best chance to bring oldest brother Robbie back to the game he left in '94 after the strike.  If we can only get him to stop rolling his eyes like a fucking twelve year old girl anytime someone in the family says something.
And there's this:  The Royals were the first team in town after the bombing last year, and they were very respectful:

So, go fucking Royal Blue.  Make those waterfalls flood the entire state.

Royals in 4. Don't ask questions - embrace the crazy.

As a Braves fan, I'm getting a similar vibe to the Royals this year to what I felt about the Braves back in 1991. It's not a perfect parallel, but when you've sucked so bad for so long and things have felt pretty hopeless, and then suddenly everything is unicorns and rainbows and you're in the freaking World Series, this really is the best feeling you'll ever get as a sports fan - for me, 1991 was even better than 1995 when the Braves finally won the World Series. I'd love to see the Royals win it all, but in a way, it almost doesn't even matter.

And also because, having moved to SF 20 years ago from Springfield, I've come to hate Giants fans. Every single one I've met is either fickle or an annoying homer.

And now that I read about Sung Woo Lee, I'll be rooting for Kansas City.

Not here
The Red Sox have won the World Series eight times.

The Giants have won the World Series seven times.

Go Royals.

I'll buy the sentiment, but didn't SF basically invent hippies?  Can we get Bonger to give us a hippie history lesson?

Don't take it to heart, San Franciscans, but in this WS you will be playing the part of the Yankees and everyone loves an underdog. Go Royals!

Yep, as a Giants fan I get the sentiment. Obviously I want them to win, but I'm happy to temporarily embrace the heel role. I almost feel bad for the neutral fan that there aren't any jerks on the Giants roster. Do any of you find any of the Giants to be particularly hateable?

It is kind of a problem, they are not very hateable, no.  They are like the island of misfit toys - you have a panda, a guy with a perm and a crazy batting stance & swing, the handsome valedictorian catcher, and the little long haired stoner dude who they won't let pitch.

If only you still had Barry!

Are the Royals really the underdog here? It seems that in both sentiment and expectation, the Royals are the choice to win. Vegas is favoring them slightly, and obviously a vast majority of neutral fans are, too.

I am biased of course in favor of my beloved Giants, but I can't imagine they could be as hated as the Yankees. As noted, the Giants are a fairly likable group of players. Having said that, I fully expect 99 percent of the non-Giants fans to be pulling for the Royals. I understand. I think the Giants do, too.

I'd like to be more easy-going about this Series, but the truth is we never know when we'll get here again. If the Giants don't win here, it could be another decade or three or five until we even get to a World Series, let alone win one. Gotta seize the chances as they come.

If nothing else, I hope the Series is fun to watch and full of good baseball. Go Giants!

Historically? Yes, the Royals are the underdog no matter how hot they have been for the last 3 week. It's the friggin' Royals.

But yes the series should be fun. Go Royals!

James Shields passed a kidney stone during the ALCS.

:rolling: I feel like that but in discomfort rather than laughter.

Gotsta love a World Series between two wild-card teams! I am rooting for the Giants because BC stands for British California, but I can't hate the Royals because they're British too, doncha know?

I have taken the liberty of re-naming this thread so that SoSH has a separate game thread for each game. This is the World Series ferchrissakes! Besides, this should eliminate the problem of polls that select the Series winner after one team has already gone 3-0.

It was media day today. According to a tweet from Giants beat writer Hank Schulman, some reporter asked Sergio Romo what country he was from originally.

He's born and raised in California. If you recall 2012, he only looks illegal.

For fuck's sake.

So, this kinda sucks. I love the underdog story and I love George Brett and I've been rooting for them this October.

But the Giants are kinda sorta my NL (ever since I went to AT&T Park a few seasons ago). I guess I'm going to have to just watch the game and see who I find myself rooting for.

Holy shit yes. Can we pinpoint it? Is it their players or their style of play? Even their uniform gives me the urge to nap like watching golf on a Sunday afternoon.

As opposed to the KC crowds, which will only consist of die-hards without cell phones, right? Give me a break.

As others have suggested, KC will win in 6 or 7 because the Giants have no reliable starters after MadBum.

Relax, Francis; I was gamethreading my spleen towards a mentality that only could exist in SF and could only invent something as straight-facedly awful as the Suit Onesie:

I took this 1 month ago in the midst of a super tight pennant race.  Others have said it's typically better.  I want to be on the KC bandwagon, but I just can't shake the feeling of being utterly unimpressed by the fans when I was there.

Two weeks before seasons' end KC's manager and a few others iirc threw their fans under a bus for not showing up. Texas was outdrawing them.

Whatever. Go Royals. I think they can win in 6. But I don't see them winning tonight.

Watched some MLB Network WS preview this morning. It was 5 minutes of James Shields 'big game' ball washing. Then they put up his playoff stats for said big games. Then they were like 'yeah, but still!' In short, GO GIANTS!

And you all know that if the Royals do win it all... it will have only been possible because Derek Jeter gave them home field advantage with his performance in the All-Star Game, right?

Why are some of you rooting for the Giants? So they can win 3 World Series in 5 years while not being anywhere close to dominant in that timeframe? Fuck them and their boring ass team, is anyone flying from fucking South Korea to watch those assholes? Didn't think so.

I am rooting for the Giants because I am a fan of the Giants. The fact that the Giants success pisses off so many people here is just an added bonus. Trolling the baseball world, fuckos.
