Cunnigham could perhaps be cut and stashed. It's a risk, and I'd love to develop him as a QB. I don't know, it does seem like they're putting together a "package" for him. Trying him out in various roles...it'll be close.

Cunningham has done nothing to suggest he has made the roster as a receiver. And he performed okay as a QB against guys who will not be in the league in another two weeks. To keep Cunningham over Boutte as a receiver would be criminal. One of the two might make the roster, imho.

Assuming they both perform well in the next two weeks, I think it’s more likely the Pats try and plop McSorley onto the PS during final cutdown, and flip a coin on keeping one of the two on the roster. A week later they’ll try and sneak the other onto the PS.

I would like to see Cunningham start at QB and get a half against the Titans on Friday.

It's the final preseason game, Mac needs time. He's gonna start and play a decent amount with the starters.

Also, honestly with Cunningham, if the staff actually likes him, would make sense not to show much so it's easier to sneak him to the PS.

Also, this is a lot of Cunningham talk in the Boutte thread.

Agreed. This thread is all about Boutte!
I do think there’s a real risk that someone else grabs Boutte if the Pats cut him; I suspect if people knew Boutte was going to be a solid apparently hard working guy with no known off field issues as of the end of August he would have been picked higher, and he also would have been picked somewhat higher if you could be confident that his athleticism would be returning which (as far as I can tell) it is

If the final roster spot is between Boutte and Cunningham, it would make much more sense to try to sneak Cunningham onto the practice squad. Sure, Boutte will likely be inactive on game day when all the receivers and tight ends are available, but there is the possibility here of them having another pre-injury Malcolm Mitchell here, and there is no reason to throw such an asset away. Chances seem at least 50/50 that Thornton will be placed on IR after making the initial 53, and it's also possible Gesicki will be inactive for a week or two to start.
