Re: Monty, I do wonder if Sweeney told him to STFU and that he'd handle the officiating. Focus on getting the team ready and focused on the next game, I'll handle it and take the fine.

When is Sweeney’s “I’m sorry we’re not losing fast enough” presser?

I don’t know the B’s front office dynamics that well. But if this is to comment on the officiating, league, whatever, shouldn’t that fall on Neely’s plate as President rather than the GM?

That's precisely my assumption, as well. No other way to spin Uncle Monty's obeisant non-tirade.

With how slow he's been, I really hope it's not an extension.
It's inconceivable to me that they would hold a press conference in the middle of a playoff series to announce that the team's 11th forward, in his 3rd month with the team, is going to retire. (That said, he plays, and especially talks, like someone who *should* retire)

Awful start

Sweeney: “We’re not in a position to be criticizing the officials. That’s standard protocol. We’ll get fined, so there’s no intention of doing that.”

live now

"we're not in the position to be criticizing officiating, we'll get fined as a result. no intention on my part to do that
we should not be asking the coach about that after a game, should be asking him what we didn't do to win the game
those questions should be asked of officials. you want transparency give us access to them"

Between here and everywhere.
My god. That's it? Really? "We can't criticize the officials, so we won't."

No wonder this team plays scared, and is coached scared. It starts at the top.

I don't understand the point of this press conference if you are not willing to take the fine and go scorched earth. Having no press conference would have been better. This is a really bad look.

I don’t know if I’m more disappointed or shocked at how dickless the response has been to the numerous officiating fubar calls there have been. If they don’t have the balls to stick up for the team how can they expect fans to respect them?

I think Don has done a good job in the last few years. He went all in last year and this year he put together a team that exceeded expectations by finding some valuable players at low price. With our dearth of draft capital I am not as optimistic that he, or anyone can prevent a decline in performance. I hope I am wrong. I guess that concern also is driving my anger at how the officiating has impacted playoff games. That’s why I wanted Donnie to say something even if it drew a fine. Our opportunities are precious and they are being impacted negatively by things outside of the players control, and the team management doesn’t have the guts to say anything.

I’m going to find something else to watch on Tuesday night if the Bruins Management won’t stand up for the players and fans. A fine for a good reason is “getting in good trouble” in my opinion. These guys don’t have the balls to even do that.

That was a joke and completely pointless. Stand up for your coach and your players. What the hell was that? Jacobs should be happy to pay a fine in this instance if you really want to have the team’s back. Spineless and gutless.

And we’re only talking like a $50,000 fine at worse. He’s just being a coward.

Who’s protocol? The organization’s?

All this time when I've been bitching about the blown series leads and lack of "fuck 'em" on the team...it clearly comes from the top.

I like Donnie. I think he's good at his job. But this was a fucking farce. What was the point?

I assume the organization told Monty not to say anything last night based on Sweeney's comments today? Organization, Jacobs/Cam, doesn't allow it?

Read the fucking room, guys.

They went for the "league needs to be held accountable" angle and it fell flat and they probably made it worse.

Embarrassing. Cannot ask the players to be stout & fight for each other when the team brass provides this milquetoast effort here.

I cannot believe the last 4 days with this team. I simply am dumbfounded.

Not watching, but did they really call a press availability to publicly announce that gutlessness is organizational philosophy and policy? Like Dad had to come and tell the mean press to stop asking his coach questions that every other team in the league gets? Is there at least even a hint of passive-aggressiveness—toward the league, not the media—about it?

Not that I expected anything different but what in the actual fuck.

If he had some interns put together a couple clips of the Marchand hit, the Lauko goalie interference call and then the Bennett non-call that's a good 5-10 minutes of ranting/calling out the bullshit he could have done and at the end of the day you cut a check to the NHL and maybe your players have a little respect for the organization.

97% towards the media, 3% towards the league. If I squint really hard I can see that he was trying to say “You need to be able to ask the league these questions and you can’t and it’s a problem” but he didn’t do that. And you really have to work to get there. It was bad.

It fell flat with the fans, but to the league Sweeney’s message was clear: You forbid us from talking about the officiating, the officiating is inconsistent and haphazard, so YOU get out here and explain these calls to the fans.

He shouldn’t have relied on “we’ll get fined.”

He went to fucking Harvard! Mark Antony’s funeral oration is sitting right fucking there. You want to facially avoid the fines, fucking use that.
