Round 1, Game 1 - Saturday, 3:30 p.m. against TBD (does it matter? No, they're lambs to the slaughter regardless)

I wasn't sure whether I should wait until we know the opponent, but I feel like it will be good to have a game thread for game notes, etc., as they start coming in.

Looks like the Heat are a 5 point favorite over the Hawks for tomorrow night's game. But I don't think it matters. I think this Cs team will be a wrecking crew in the playoffs and storm their way to the Finals with few hiccups along the way. Their 1-7, especially, is better than anyone else's in the east and the likes of Grant, Hauser, Pritch, Blake, Muscala, and big Luke will be at the ready should something go sideways.

It's championship or bust, at this point. No moral victories, no points for a good effort. Time to start the run that will eventually result in Banner 18. The Jays will lead us.

I love baseball and football, but basketball is multiple tiers ahead when it comes to how much I care. For me, it doesn’t get better than Celtics playoff basketball.

Beat the Buffalo/Tri-Cities/Milwaukee/St. Louis/Atlanta Bisons/Black Hawks/Hawks.

Dominique Wilkins isn’t walking through that door. Bob Pettit isn’t walking through that door. Lou Hudson isn’t walking through that door. The only man that would scare me is of Red Auerbach showed up to coach them again, and I am 99.9% sure he can’t pull that off.

And thankfully Al Horford is wearing green for this one. Ambush Atlanta. Hunt Trae mercilessly. Stay healthy and win in five.

Curious if this is an always thing, or a this is where you are in your life thing?
Story time.

Baseball was my first love, especially pitching. Then when I was a junior in HS (2003), I came in to close a game out against our rival, and tore my rotator cuff, probably related to the fact that I started a game the day before for my AAU team lol. I tried rehabbing it, but I never was the same. So I started to stupidly resent baseball for a bit, and it was right as Paul Pierce was becoming a perennial all star.

The 2004 Sox team brought me fully back, but basketball had the edge from that point on, and it’s only gotten more pronounced over the years. My dad was a diehard Celtics fan who had season tickets in the 80s, and he died in early 2015. Since then, the emotional connection to the Celtics dwarfs the other teams.

Edit: Plus I just love basketball.

I feel the same way. Sox were 1A and Pats were 1B growing up, but Pierce and company eventually took the top spot. Some of it is being the most progressive league and how top players have an outsized influence on the game due to smaller squads, but it's mostly that I can watch an entertaining game in 2:15. I'd also rather a basketball game where I don't have a dog in the fight more than any other sport.

Love these types of stories on SoSH, aside from the part about your dad passing.

Baseball was also my first love. Eventually the Pats surpassed the Sox for me. Recently the Bruins have gained the top spot, mostly because my 10 year old son absolutely loves them even though he’s never played hockey himself. The emotional connection due to loved ones is real.

Yeah I just enjoy watching basketball the most, easily at that. The league is in a really good place, a ton of likable stars, and like you said, by far the most progressive league.

Pierce was my generation’s Bird, and we got to watch him grow up from immature to finals MVP.

It's funny, but as I've gotten a bit older I just can't sit through baseball anymore. In my 20's I'd watch every single game, knew everything there was to know about it and was in 4 keeper leagues and one redraft. Once I got into my 30's I just didn't have the patience to sit through a game. I had the same craze for football but now I just watch the Pats because it's something to do Sunday day, but I wouldn't care if I missed a game. I enjoy the C's, but my love for watching hockey has never wavered, only grown. I can never understand why hockey isn't more popular due to the constant action

This describes me almost to a T in terms of baseball and football.

It was so long ago when Auerbach coached the Tri-Cities Blackhawks that they're called the Quad Cities now. Like there's now a whole other city.

Humble the Hawks!

We're gonna beat them so bad, they'll become convinced their logo is Pacman, not a hawk.

Agreed with everything here. Love all 4 sports a lot, but basketball is number 1. Nothing like NBA platoffs. Got the Jaylen shirt on and fired up!

for me, I never grew up playing or watching hockey. My biggest problem with hockey, and to some extent soccer, is that I have a hard time distinguishing between the actions actually going to result in anything or just yet another swing the other way. I feel like what almost always happens is I’ll pay attention for a while, nothing happens, then I get distracted and miss the important stuff

One thing with basketball that makes it more purely enjoyable in a way is that while it’s certainly not stress free, entire games/series tend not to hinge on fluky stuff like bad BIP luck in baseball or a goalie standing on his head in hockey or every fumble falling to the opponent in football (the closes in basketball is probably officiating shenanigans). And games tend not to hinge on a single play either, which is what makes hockey and football especially tense to watch if you’re invested.

At least until later rounds, right now it’s as simple as “if they play well there is nothing this particular opponent can do to stop them from winning the series” whereas I know I’ll be sweating every second of the Bruins playoff run just as we sweat every play of a Pats playoff game.

So no Celtics specific pregame show on MouseTV and game will be delayed due to this one going late?

Basketball has always been number one for me as well, but Boston sports are like my four children and I love them all, even when they're stealing the car and getting Fs.

Been waiting for this game since last summer. Let's go!

This I understand, which is funny because it's the reason I love hockey, and to a lesser extent, basketball. You can miss a goal in the first 30 seconds that might be the only goal in the game, but that keeps me engaged. However, I do get it can be hard to follow, the NHL even tried these awful glowing pucks in the early 2000's to help people follow the puck. I didn't even grow up playing/watching due to family reasons, but I got some really old goalie pads when I was 18 and fell in love.

Bird was my generation's Bird, just sayin.'

Celtics brought out the contrarian streak in me when I was in college and grad school in SoCal surrounded by Laker fans. It's been my greatest pro team love ever since. LFG -Annihilate ATL!

Threes aren't falling but great looks and distribution. Granted, this is Atlanta but good ball movement habits are always encouraging independent of the opponent.
