I believe so. I also think I might have a solution for people that cut the cord in the region. I haven't tried this since I haven't cut cable yet, though planning on it after the playoffs, but VPN services let you change your location, so you could show yourself out of market and not get blackout out by NESN. They aren't that expensive, and some I think offer free trials. Surfshark doesn't have a free trial, a single month is $12.95, but sign up for a year it's $3.99 a month, even cheaper ($2.30) if you do the two year deal. This can also do things like change your Netflix libraries based on country, and protects your computer by browsing privately, so I'm probably just going to do the two year when I cut the cord.

I just looked around and expressVPN does have a 30 day free trial
I can speak for Fubo and say it doesn't work over my usual VPN (PIA - Private Internet Access)

Anyone know a good radio streaming service? I'm going to be in the middle of a long drive for Sunday's game and would like to listen to the game on the radio over my phone (out of market so don't think I could find it on normal FM/AM but maybe I'm wrong).
If you're a Sirius/XM subscriber you can find them there. Looks like the have a free trial

I don't know if they're carrying playoff games, but I usually go on 98.5's website and click listen live when I'm driving and the game is on.

Doesn’t Fubo include local channels so they know where you are? I would think(hope) things like ESPN and Hulu don’t have that restriction. Otherwise this might mess up my post cord plan

Some situational breakdowns for the Panthers:

63575

They're a frontrunning team. Obviously the Bruins don't necessarily have to score first to win games in this series (as we will see with their situational splits), but the Panthers are a demonstrably worse (and losing) team when chasing the score. Contrast with the Bs:

63576

Now obviously scoring first is a major advantage for the B's as well, but they've still an elite team even when playing from behind. Another funny thing is that the Bruins have done better when being out-possessed by their opponents, which I suspect is due to their oZone and dZone approaches—prizing higher danger opportunities on offense while on the other end being willing to cede low risk shots from range.

They do ask for ZIP at sign up, but it's not checking that at logon. It simply sees I'm on a VPN and says you can't do that. Maybe some of the more integrated router level ones will work. But my browser based one does not. My guess is they actively look at some of the more common VPN services and block those IPs. My guess it could work occasionally when they refresh and add new ones.

they didn’t need him in game 1, they don’t need need him in game 2

They probably don’t really need him until the EC finals

I disagree with the above and, even if true, I'd rather have him in regardless. Hockey is too fickle a game to not have your top talent.

This isn’t the NBA. There’s no coasting through a first round opponent in this league, and there sure as hell no coasting through two rounds. I don’t know if you’ve seen Toronto or Tampa’s rosters, but there are some really good top 2 line centers that they’ll need him to defend against if they can get to the next round.

They need Bergeron back healthy. Especially if Florida gets Bennett back for game 3. That he skated this morning was a good sign. Hopefully he can practice tomorrow.

Why?
They have plenty of depth and they are better than the Panthers at every position and at head coach
Were the 2019 Bruins better than the Blues? Weird shit happens in the NHL playoffs, and while I'm happy to wait for Bergeron to be back to full strength and not rush him back, I'd rather have him playing because it's less of an opportunity for weird shit to happen.

Top 2 line centers

that’s my whole point
Bruins are much deeper
They have 5 capable centers (4 without Bergy)

and you’re right it’s not the NBA
Teams play 19 players in a game not 8
Depth is more important in the NHL

I agree with everyone that they are better with him. No argument there

but they don’t need him this series and especially game 2 when they also have the huge home ice advantage

Based on what I saw yesterday Tampa (especially if without Hedman or Cernak) and Torontos defense don’t scare me

I do thinkBergeron would be very Important vs the Rangers or Hurricanes and certainly anyone coming out of the west

I’d rather just have him heal now and it seems he’s Doing just that

Difference between the 2019 Bruins and the SCF and the 23 Bruins and the first round is apple and orangutans

Bennett's back tonight

The idea that they don't need Bergeron until the ECF is one of the dumber things said and defended around here.

It's like I said, they can win without him, sure, but they're a much better team with him (and are therefore more likely to win), so that's what we all want, and the sooner the better.

5-0 is a tiny sample size. The Stanley Cup Playoffs are the highest variance, most grueling gauntlet in sports. You want your best players playing in every game against every opponent. Look no further than the '18-'19 Lightning that won 62 and lost in the 1st round.

I disagree with 100% of the hundreds of meaningless things you post hundreds of days per year.
I haven’t had much to add to this message board over 20+ years as a passive reader, but just give it a rest on this subject. There is no benefit to Patrice Bergeron missing any games in any playoff series.

Anyone seen Lauko? Maybe the illness left him looking like Christian Bale in The Machinist?
I think they want Foligno for his "toughness" than they do Lauko for his playmaking/speed. To no one's surprise, this Florida team appears to be on a mission to goon it up a bit. (Which is likely also why we're seeing Forbort over Grz).

Really starting to worry about Bergeron. Even if he comes back I'm concerned he won't be 100%. It's not just his absence (which is huge) but when you lose your 1C it has the ripple down effect of messing up the chemistry of every other line because now things are different than they've been for 80% of the season. Hoping the injury isn't significant, but it's hard for me to believe it's not significant because, knowing Bergeron, he'd play through anything if he was able to.

Sounds like he could go if needed, but they’d rather rest him if they can:
“I think you are always looking at the situation, and everything goes into the situation,” Montgomery replied. Where he’s at is No. 1; No. 2 it would be – just like the regular season – rest versus play. Where is the series at? All those factors.”
Can’t say this one is particularly encouraging, though. Back? Core? Maybe elbow, that shot didn’t do much.

I think they needed that. They aren't winning ever series 4-0 or 4-1 in the NHL, they needed that gut check. I think right now, the bigger question is who drops the gloves when puck drops? I'm going with Uncle Nick and Gudas

I just rewatched most of the game, and the story is that they had some really good chances in the 1st and 2nd that they didn't bury, and then the sloppiness caught up to them. Hall had a fantastic opportunity on a 2v1 in the 1st that he put right into Lyon's chest, and the Pasta miss of the open net are huge and would have dramatically changed the game. And then it's actually amazing how quickly things degraded defensively after the 1st period.

I think I move in Grz for Forbort, but I'm not sure I necessarily change Foligno out. The Bruins didn't lose because they didn't get enough from a 4th line winger, and if Bergeron is still out (which I would assume to be the case), then I think having Foligno on the bench does matter. If they want to swap Foligno for Lauko/Greer, I'm fine with it, I just don't think it's particularly important or going to have a major impact either way. Grz and/or Bergeron (if healthy), would be moves that are much more meaningful.

Look, they were shit for the final two periods of last night. Hard to be optimistic today, but this team has always bounced back when challenged this season, even against good teams. I know the playoffs are different, but have to have a little trust in what they did this year, and I'm confident they're not going to put up their back-to-back worst performances of the year right now. Clean up the shitty soft passes through the middle of your own zone and that is 90% of the battle, because other than that, Florida was not generating a ton of good chances on their own.

Between here and everywhere.
In a vaccuum, the game last night sucked.

But the Bruins just rattled off a stretch of what, 15 wins in 16 games? Like others have said. The weren't going to end the season going 32-1 or something insane like that. Losses are going to happen. Bad losses are probably going to happen, again.

This team has shown resiliency all season long in never letting one bad game derail them.

Keep getting healthier. Keep getting past whatever is going through the locker room. Get Bergy back out there. And continue to frog stomp the league.

I think for me, the thing in addition to last night that has me puckered is that Florida is basically the only team that put up a fight in all of tgeir games against the Bruins this year. For whatever reason, it's just a bad matchup for them.

They are clearly the better team, and I expect them to come out on top, but this series is going to be just brutal on my health, I think.

That video looks like someone who got crushed by illness, he is getting winded from the equivalent of a light jog. Hard to say if he is injured because he can't do anything that would appear to test it.
What becomes concerning is if Nosek gets a game and they are forced to play Frederic at C.
They are going to have serious issues at the dot if both Nosek and Bergeron are unavailable game 3.

The Bruins are a far better team, but they have to play like it. I do think the stomach bug is doing a number on them, and that's a big reason for the underwhelming performances. Hopefully they look healthier and better tomorrow. But this post is right--Florida is just a bad matchup for them, and probably one of the very few. IMO one of the reasons the Stanley is so hard to win is that you have to win against a variety of teams. The NHL has a pretty flat talent pool, especially once in the playoffs, so different styles can pose problems to even the best teams.

The good news is they are 5-1 without Bergeron!
This is good

The concerning thing to me is that they have been outplayed for the better part of 2 games and would probably be 0-2 but for Ullmark in game 1.

They clearly didn’t take this opponent seriously. Hopefully this will be a wake up call.

Either that or they’re all sick as dogs. Which is even more concerning. They looked like a team trying to play through losing a bunch of weight after a intestinal virus in that 3rd period.

But they played a great 3rd period in game 1, so I'm having a hard time reconciling this.

Do you really think with the core of this team being who they are, in a potentially record setting season, against the one playoff team that handled the bruins well in the regular season...that they decided not to take them seriously and assume they were going to coast? Cmon.

You can’t always be at your best - like, any of us. They will see everything we saw that showed them at their worst. They’ll do their best to fix it. This is why they play the games, and why we love to watch them. Let’s go.
