Now that there’s 2 full days without baseball and past the tossup round, what’s your rooting order?

I would much prefer a self-defined smaller-market “non-traditional” team win this faux *championship, with some exceptions for cheaters and Yankee scum.

Agree with the below order. Definitely rooting for the Fightin Orsillos first and foremost. Taking out the Cardinals gets them brownie points.

It doesn't seem to bother most of you to root for Machado, the Loathesome?
How soon they forget.
Anyway, I like Oakland, Miami, and Tampa. I think Tampa Bay is the best team.

LA (as above, for Mookie, Dave Roberts, and Joe Kelly---and a little for Kershaw to finally silence all his critics)

OAK (for Beane to finally silence his critics)

SD (for their long suffering fan base and despite Machado)

The rest of the teams and their fans can go F themselves, with the exception of TB for this round only, for reasons that should be obvious.

The Machado point is a fair one but I have to admit that I found myself cheering when he hit that HR right after Tatis to tie up game 2. It's hard not to love the Padres. Tatis is just awesome and so much fun to watch.

Kind of the same with the Marlins and Jeter. On the one hand, to hell with Jeter. On the other, the whole "Marlins have never lost a playoff series" is hilarious to me and I want it to continue, at least for one more round. It be wild and totally on brand for 2020 if the Marlins go on to win the World Series.

SD
OAK
LAD

TB
ATL
HOU
NYY

The only two teams I'm actively rooting against are the Yankees and Astros. Anybody else and sure, fine, whatever.

LA all the way for me. Fenway West.

Then SD

Then anyone but the Yankees and Astros.

Then a cancelled season

Then aliens attack and turn Earth into a living hell

Then that hell freezes over

Then the Yankees.

Then the Astros.

As a Houston fan, I'd like them to win a more legitimate* title. So they're first.

HOU
SD
OAK
TB
MIA
ATL
LAD
NYY

* I said "more legitimate," not "fully legitimate." A 60 game season with a 16 team postseason is not a real season.

For me it's:

SD
TB
ATL
OAK
LAD
MIA

HOU

The Machado slide still pisses me off, but he seems to have matured and I know someone who has met him multiple times and says he has always been a good dude to him. It made me happy to hear this because Machado is the kind of player I really, really want to be able to root for, and the Pedroia thing always kind of held me back. I think I'm over it now, finally.

I really enjoy watching the way Tampa plays, and have for a long time.

If Atlanta ever banned that fucking chop, they would be my favorite non-Sox team. Freeman, Acuna, Riley, Swanson and that pitching staff are a blast.

Oakland would be a good story for finally breaking through.

Mookie. And Kershaw, I guess. But really Mookie.

Miami could be higher if it wasn't for a poor defensive shortstop.

Fuck Houston.

ATL (good memories of Andruw Jones and Ron Gant breaks the tie)
MIA

HOU (for 2017 reasons partly)
TB (would be lower in other seasons)

OAK (still have 1988/1990 nightmares)

SD (F Machado)

LA (F Andrew Friedman and the payroll and stealing Mookie and Lakers fans)

Tampa Bay because it has persevered to remain competitive without spending like the Padres or the self-promotion of Billy Beane

I'm all aboard the Slam Diego train. Tatis is fun to watch and I couldn't care less about the Machado stuff. I don't have to like him to root for the Pads.

After that, it's a big drop-off to...

OAK
ATL
TB

If they're all out after the LDS, I'm probably out for the rest of the post-season.

OAK - they’ve been good off and on a long time without making it to the WS and they are fine.
TB - on balance I’ll root for AL teams unless they are the Yankees or horrible NL teams currently in the AL.
SD - why not. They seem fun.
ATL - would be good if they won just so CP whines 5% less
MIA - I had this vision that they were going to win this year and that I should bet it all on them. I’m a little angry at myself right now.
HOU - could easily see myself rooting against them against anyone though.
LAD - could easily see myself rooting against them against the Yankees though.
NYY - no actually I can’t imagine not rooting against them.

San Diego, Atlanta and Tampa for me. I kind of find Houston interesting because I’ve never been able to get that mad at the cheating and it would be kind of funny to see all the people who are pissed about the cheating to see them win another title in this shortened season.

A's Always loved their uniforms/those white cleats when no one else wore them (Charlie Finley I guess had a thing for white as the California Golden Seals, whom he also owned, had the same colors as the A's and they wore white skates)

Braves My third favorite team behind the Red Sox and the Giants; how they managed to only win one WS with that pitching staff back in the day is beyond me

Padres Young, exciting team, love the old school uniforms, liked them from way back in the day when they had Gossage and Garvey and rose from the dead to knock of the Cubs

Throw the rest of the teams in a dumpster; I don't care about the Marlins or Rays with their $47.12 payrolls, the Astors and their bandwagon yahoo fans, the Dodgers because Dodger fans=Laker fans.....................and fuck the MFY's and the trades they make where they send a box of used baseballs and a case of broken bats and they end up with batting average and home run champions in return, hate that team with the fire of 10,000 suns

San Diego - Absent a strong rooting interest (for or against), I'll always opt for the team that has never won a title
Oakland - I've got a soft spot for them and their dump of a stadium; it hasn't been fun being an A's fan for like the past 30 years, so I'm OK if they win one
Tampa - Would be in the same tier as San Diego were it not for the AL East factor
Los Angeles - I'll always root for Mookie
Atlanta - A team I'm 100% neutral about; win, don't win, who cares?
Miami - As mentioned up thread, it would be objectively hilarious if they won the whole thing; also mentioned up thread, fuck Derek Jeter
Houston - Nope
New York - I'll look God straight in the eyes and walk backwards into hell before I root for the Yankees

I don't really have a rooting interest for any of these, so I had to think of it terms of working up from the bottom and was left with this:

• San Diego - They win my fandom by default, although I do like their mid-90's Tribe vibe. I'd be a little sad to see San Diego lose their spot as the most irrelevant franchise in baseball though. I mean it's kind of funny that a 51-year-old franchise is only notable for how unnotable they've been. Zero World Series titles and their top 3 players were a pear-shaped singles hitter, a guy most people remember as a Yankee, and a soft-tossing closer. I'd root for them harder if the Swinging Friar was more prominent.
• Tampa Bay - Nothing but respect that's offset a little by tiresome critical praise... but I guess you can run an organization like strat-o-matic when you have no fans and you dump your players before they can really garner any rights.
• Atlanta - I've always had the utmost respect for the Braves as a franchise and I find most of their roster really likable, but (no offense to CP) I can't bear the thought of so many tomahawk-chopping Trumpers being happy.
• Los Angeles - Can't root for a mega-payroll team, but they've had their share of suffering. The '88 team upsetting the Bash Brothers in my childhood holds a soft spot in my heart.
• Oakland - I'm not an old school fan, but the cult of Billy Beane being the greatest genius in the game was so nauseating for so long, I'd hate to ever see him add a World Series championship to his resume.
• New York - Just because I have two teams below them doesn't mean they're not still the MFY. I'd never root for them, but at least it would be funny in the future when they include 2020 in their championship count.
• Miami - Worse than the Yankees for me. This might be a different ownership/different type of season, but this franchise has seldom ever tried to win, yet won it all every time they've bothered to try. As a fan of a long-suffering team (and one that was victimized by the Marlins buying a championship in '97), nothing is worse to me. This franchise and the handful of fans they have deserve nothing but bad karma for the rest of eternity.
• Houston - It's bad enough they qualified as a 2nd place team with a losing record. In their "us vs. the world" campaign, the world needs to squash them like a bug.

What does that have to do with anything? I never made any character judgment of the Marlins players. If you were rooting for the '97 Marlins because of the moral superiority of Luis Castillo, Darren Daulton and Gary Sheffield then good for you. Rooting for or against a team based on the players' lives off the field will leave you with no sports team to root for. Aside from maybe Kilted Fool, I'm probably also the only one here who hopes that Jose Mesa, more than any other former player, dies a slow painful death.

I wanted the Indians because they haven't won since 1948 and man!!!! what heartbreaks they have had. Now I'm rooting for the A's. Rays are my 2nd choice.

I was so pissed off when the Indians lost that game 7. That was an even series and you just can't blame Mesa. Cleveland was in a title drought and the Marlins were in their fifth year. I couldn't root for a team that hadn't paid their dues. I had no respect for that organization after they blew that team up after they won. The 03 team was built on the farm system and good trades. I respected them more. And not because they beat the Stankees, lol.

Padres - Saw rookie reliever Luis Patiño no-hit the San Jose Giants through six+ last summer
Rays - Low budget fun
Dodgers - Betts and Roberts and Kelly, plus I live on the line and have to choose

A's - Antithesis of new, swanky San Francisco
Marlins - Who?
Atlanta - Who?

Astros - Ugh, these guys
Yankees - Aaron Judge seems like a good guy

San Luis Obispo county. Fandom by hats is about 50/50 Giants/Dodgers. In the Diablo Canyon nuke plant, the north generator is painted orange and the south generator is painted blue. I play tennis with some Dodgers fans, so I end up following them closer than I would otherwise.
