Good. Cora should be back. While he certainly played a role in the Astros cheating and deserves to be punished, the additional reporting makes it seem likely that the true people in positions of power (Hinch and Luhnow) conveniently placed all responsibility at Cora's feet because he was no longer with the team. It started before he joined the organization and he only carried out what the team started before he joined. He has done a ton of good off the field and it seems like the players love playing for him. That more than outweighs his role in this scandal in my opinion.

Please bring back Cora. Please bring back Cora. Please bring back Cora...

EDIT: I say this as one of the early proponents of firing him. If the report comes back clean as seems likely, I'll gladly eat crow.

Manfred is really dropping the ball here by not completing the investigation in a timely manner. Perhaps part of it is that certain players that need to be interviewed were not in the US and will be in the coming weeks, but both from a logistical and PR perspective it would benefit MLB and the Red Sox to sew this up.

Have they made any announcement as to when the final word is expected? The longer this goes on the more worried I am that there is something larger here that will impact the Red Sox despite other reports to the contrary.

why name him officially then might have to fire him within a week?

still hoping Cora can somehow manage in 2021, as unlikely as it is

According to Alex S. in today's piece, the label might be removed once the MLB report is issued and the coast has been cleared.
I read that as saying that the label might be removed once the MLB report has been issued and Cora gets (something close to) the death penalty.

There is no other reason to call him the "interim" manager unless they are planning to bring Cora back.
I disagree. They are still waiting on the results of the MLB investigation. They may decide to go outside if there was significant wrongdoing and Roenicke knew or should have known about it.

Less likely, they might be going with Roenicke due to lack of time to do a proper outside search, in which case they might be quick to move on if they aren’t happy with the clubhouse culture or the early results.

Edit: Didn’t see your later post. We’re in violent agreement.

When players ask him 'why?', he promises to have something better than 'Manager's Decision'.

Or, literally anyone else who they don't want to throw into the situation last minute as they don't want to give Roenicke a long-term contract.

I think the reason for the use of interim has become obvious, but I'm also curious if this is also might be used as a place holder of sorts pending MLB's findings and punishments concerning Alex Cora. If (big if) Cora is cleared in the Sox investigation and given no more than Hinch for his role in Houston, do the Sox bring him back in a year? I'm not asking for debate on whether they should or not as that's not the intent of this thread, I'm just wondering if part of the interim tag is to leave a door open for Cora to return after he's served his time.

I don't think so, because they have said they will remove the 'interim' tag once the investigation is concluded and Roenicke is not part of it. It's just to have a manager in place for spring training while they wait for the slow-ass MLB investigation to wrap up.

Have they said that? I thought that was guesswork by some here,
