Severino pulled at 75 pitches, let's see how the bullpen does today.

More runs, please! Greene is at 71 pitches, they usually pull him around 100.

Greg Allen pinch-runs and scores for the second day in a row, good job by Volpe getting him in.

I'm catching this one late, and on the radio broadcast (Suzyn and some guy who I don't know). What did Boone get tossed for?

Also, good job DJ.

I didn't actually see it but CIN had a runner on 1st in the 1st inning, there was a ball down the RF line that the ump initially called foul so Bauers didn't get it in quickly, then they decided it was fair and the runner could score, not stay at 3rd. Boone did not agree. :)

Greg Allen with a standup triple in his first AB back in NY. I am already back in love with him.

Abbey, I think things with this team have stabilized a bit. Might be a good time to start doing series game threads again. Do you want to start that off on Tuesday?

Of course I can also understand not changing anything when the team is doing well.

The team is going well but there is still not much participation here, let's leave it like this for now.

Gleyber is projected for just 83 Ks this season. He usually strikes out a little over 120 times in a full season. On pace for 23 HRs and 73 RBI. Not bad for a middle infielder. Except his fielding and base running are erratic. My question is, can Volpe or Peraza match that production when it comes time to trade Gleyber?

I feel like you're reading my mind. Or at least, let me put it this way: after I saw that he hit another HR today, I thought about posting a mea culpa in this thread about all the shit I've been talking about trading Gleyber before he craters again. Didn't realize his strikeout numbers were so much better too, but the offense is obvious and has been sorely needed.

I have confidence in Peraza being a solid offensive infielder with plus defense, but I don't know how long it will take for him to adjust to the big leagues.

I have confidence in young Volpe too, and I'm glad he's getting the opportunity at the major league level because of the talent he flashes even with a lot of strikeouts and too many errors.

I have confidence in Cabrera being adequate defensively all over the field, and I like the way his ABs have looked lately.

I do not have confidence that the Yankees lineup can handle more than two spots in the lineup with young guys like that learning about major league pitching on the job, in games that matter. And sometimes two spots in the lineup might be too much.

But bad defense frustrates me and I'd really like to see Peraza contribute. They need Gleyber's bat and Stanton will be back taking most of the DH ABs soon enough. I don't know what the right answer is. Probably what the Yankees are already doing.

Edit: this post is a bit haphazard and garbled, but I'm just going to leave the rest of it be.

Agree with all you said, EE. Gleyber seems to have become a professional hitter with time. We had such high hopes for him as an all-around player and the early hype, plus the big HR season when the ball was juiced, made us think he would be a star. But he’s really just a solid player, good teammate. Reminds me a bit of Starlin Castro.

I like Cabrera too, but he hasn’t hit much this year and he has also made a bunch of defensive mistakes recently, he has a negative WAR for the year. I’m not saying give up on him, send him to AAA and let him hit first or second every day and see if he can get hot.

Sounds like a good plan. Every prospect takes that final hurdle differently. Seeing Volpe and others struggle at the plate reminds me of how easily Jeter and Cano played and hit as rookies.

Peraza up and Cabrera down makes sense since the OF is firmed up, as long as they're actually willing to give Peraza ABs, which, between SS and 2B, they should be able to manage.

I think reducing Volpe's playing time could help him slow things down a little. Out of a 10 game stretch, I'd be happy to see Peraza play SS in 3 or 4 of them and 2B for maybe 2, with Gleyber getting a little DH time or resting.

Yeah, they should take advantage of the DH spot being open until Stanton is back and get Peraza some more playing time.

FWIW Peraza did not play today after his monster game yesterday and Monday is a day off in the minors, so I think there's a solid chance he'll be up for the BAL series on Tuesday.

Big series about to kick off, with only four series between divisional opponents this year, the intensity has really ratcheted up as we've seen in the recent TB and TOR series.

Cole vs Bradish, let's go NY.

Great win. Almost came here to second guess having King pitch the 9th, but it worked out really well. Judge is the shit.

And yeah, that squeeze was idiotic.

Volpe! He had a nice catch to end the top of the 10th too.

Judge is mythical, they made Cano and Bautista throw a lot of pitches to start the series also.

And the DJ bunt was one of the most inexplicable plays you'll ever see. I get having big respect for Cano but you are hitting 4th and supposed to be NY's best contact guy. And when you foul off the first try, then everyone is waiting for it, so if you are going to do it again, it has to be a lot better executed than that.

Good win!!!!

NY bullpen outpitches the very very strong BAL pen, Marinaccio/Wandy/King combined for 5 1 0 0 2 6.

Amazon just has a live shot of Yankee Stadium with the tarp on and the background stadium noise, it's like the Yule Log equivalent of baseball.

Nestor has looked great so far, just 77 pitches through 6, three Ks in the 6th (just 5 for the game).
