So "The Road to the Winter Classic" is on Epix.

Epix.

Epix.com

It's not a channel that Comcast/Xfinity offers.

I'm watching the game anyway, but I'd be all over the lead up series if I could fucking watch it on my television.

Can't NESN get rebroadcast rights?

I can see last year's shows on NHL network. But not the ones promoting the NHL's biggest regular season game of this year?
I believe they make the program free last year because of some of the same concerns.
Yeah, there are streaming options available:

So it's a huge pain in the ass that this is on EPIX. And the NHL is doing a horrible job of promoting it. It's really a shame that they don't do 24/7 on HBO anymore, which was a remarkable production and great TV. Leave it to the NHL to screw up an easy win (although I'm sure there were business factors involved).

That said, I watched episode 1, and it was ok. Better than Behind the B, not as good as 24/7. Got some good Claude behind the scenes, a look at Z on his days off, Bergeron's new baby, and then a bunch of game action. Subban acquits himself well, and Pacioretty seems like a real douche, to be honest.

Agree on Patches. Also, his kid is doomed. His Dad is a Canadien and he was wearing a Yankee hat. For shame.

On the positive note, they included Manchester Orchestra on the soundtrack, which I fully endorsed. @TheRealness

I downloaded the EPIX app and it was very good. The opening was really good and helped set the scene of the rivalry. I thought they made the players relate to the fans pretty well especially Chara and Subban. Subban as many said came off as very likeable. I especially liked the behind the scenes shots of the MTL players in rehab/on the table getting stitches. I will look forward to more episodes.

Oh yeah that's reminded me, the stitches on Gallagher's hand after surgery were impressive.

So as a directv subscriber I can't watch episode 1 without paying for Epix subscription or waiting until it airs on NHL Channel?

Yes you can. Follow the "free trial" instructions.

I also found that Sportsnet.ca had it without needing to sign up:

Not sure if there is anything different between their version and the one you can get on Epix.

He is awesome...off the ice. He can be a great guy and a great player and still be a sneaky, diving, whiny, douche prone to behaving like a turtle.

One thing about this program gave me is a new found love for Talbot. The chatter he had with Spooner on the bench and in the locker room was great. Also enjoy hearing from the refs.

Subban does seem like a guy I'd want to hang out with. Just hate him on the ice. As others have said, Pacioretty seems like an ass.

The medical attention in game is also cool. McQuaid's puck in the face stich up was awesome. And only 15 minutes.
