In addition to the aforementioned O'Sullivan, the top names I've seen bandied about are Tim Corbin of Vanderbilt, Jim Schlossnagle of TCU and McConnell. I haven't seen Manieri mentioned at all. This is all based on publications, mind you, I don't have any inside knowledge.

But to my previous point about Skip, that's some pretty stiff competition for a guy with no experience as head coach at a major college program. My hope for him has always been that Augie was grooming him as his replacement but I admit that was just a pipe dream.
It seems like if they wanted to keep it in house that Skip would be the choice. However as you know, this is UT and a big splash seems to be the required thing for a major hire. Corbin and O'Sullivan would be two people I'd look at as well but Corbin is pretty well entrenched in Nashville. Schloss is probably not going anywhere as they just built some amazing facilities in Fort Worth and TCU is a better baseball program at this point than UT.

For personal reasons, I actually don't mind Schlossnagle staying at TCU. My brother-in-law's nephew (Josh Watson) plays for him and he's had fantastic results so far. He made the All-Freshman team and received Honorable Mention for the All-Big 12. I'd love to see how he continues to develop in that program.

Baker may get the accolades for hitting the game-winning bomb against West Virginia - and for other, obvious reasons - but Josh set the whole thing up by starting the rally in the 9th and then scoring the tying run. And although Baker is considered the big bat in the lineup, Josh actually led the team in HRs.

Ok, I'll put away the pom-poms. It's just really weird to see someone who you've known since they were in diapers playing major college baseball at such a high level.

I was at TCU last year for the Regionals and am very impressed with that program and the university as a whole.

Yeah, they definitely have a good thing going there. And even though they still have a bit of an inferiority complex, it's safe to say they've arrived.

I'll be shocked if it isn't O'Sullivan. He has wanted the Texas job, they've talked before, it makes perfect sense. I'd guess two days after the CWS it's leaked he'll accept the head coaching job.

If not him they'll hire the next biggest gun they can. Bosoxen that's awesome you're related to Skip. I hope they retain him as pitching coach, he's done a very good job.

Yeah, if there's one thing that's remained constant in Austin, it's that their pitching is always stellar. I really hope his recruiting and work with the pitchers doesn't go unrewarded. He knows his shit, that's for sure. My concern would be that the new coach would want to bring in his own guy.

Vanderbilt freshmen pitcher Donny Everett drowned last night in a lake about an hour from Nashville. I don't know how they can even play today given the circumstances.

Vanderbilt pitcher and Clarksville native Donny Everett drowned at a Coffee County Lake on Thursday night.

Vanderbilt Director of Athletics David Williams released this statement at 8:55 a.m. Friday:

"We learned last night of the tragic death of Donny Everett, an outstanding young man who exemplified the best of our university. As you can imagine, the team, the athletic department and the university are trying to come to terms with this tragedy. His parents and loved ones are on our minds and in our prayers as we share in their grief.”

Coach Tim Corbin met with players and coaches late Thursday night to inform them of Everett’s death. The Commodores are scheduled to play Xavier in their NCAA Regional game at 7 p.m. Friday.

Vanderbilt spokesman Rod Williamson said the status of Friday's game has not yet been decided because the university is still gathering information and athletics director David Williams is traveling back from the SEC spring meetings in Destin, Fla.

Everett, 19, just finished his freshman year at Vanderbilt. He was one of the nation’s top high school pitchers while starring at Clarksville High.

A Coffee County emergency dispatcher said emergency crews were called to a drowning in Normandy Lake about 5 p.m. The sheriff’s office and an emergency squad ambulance were sent to the scene, the dispatcher said.

Normandy Lake, which is located in Manchester, is about 44 minutes southeast of Murfreesboro by car. It is a popular spot for fishing and swimming.

It looks like Vanderbilt didn't play today. Hard to jump in and follow that up with discussion of any of the games, though...but I guess I will try.

Bryant got beat, 9-1. They play W&M who got clobbered by Virginia next.

Utah with an extra-inning upset over Ole Miss. They'll play Boston College next. Clemson pretty dominant in their win over Western Carolina - Beer had a grand slam.

Tough day for Bryant. Offense couldn't push anything across, Karinchak ran out of gas and I think coach Owens was too quick with the hook with Snyder. Got out of hand in the 8th.
Beat W & M today and see what happens

There's so much butt hurt in this post, I have a feeling the violin you're hearing is playing in your head.
The only butthurt I have towards Texas baseball is this. I think it was really lame of them to announce that during the selection show (do you disagree?) and probably overreacted to the inane comment about "who has the right stuff to lead Texas back to the top." You guys will be fine no matter who gets hired. It may not be the next Garrido right away, but I don't think anyone is holding their breath for the future of the program, and certainly not while the tournament is going on.

Whoops -- looks like the Tribe missed this memo :) great season for Bryant though.

What a disappointment. Entering the tournament, Bryant had the best win % in the country and was the only team to not lose back to back games this season . What a waste of a good opportunity.

I didn't get a chance to watch, but was following along online - sounds like Utah just had the wheels fall off one inning...

Jonah Bride of South Carolina ran over the catcher at home and the URI catcher got up and got into his face. The benches started to clear but the staffers quickly defused the situation. Bride was called out at the plate and also ejected for running over the catcher.

Well, the defending national champions are eliminated. William and Mary defeats Virginia 5-4 to move onto the regional final against ECU.
W&M entered their conference tourney under .500. In the finals they needed to beat the top seed twice. In the first game they were down by 7 in the 9th and scored 7 runs to tie it. Then they endured a 27 hour rain delay, that almost led to the conference tourney running too long and the CAA sending the regular season champ to the tourney. But they helped the grounds crew get field ready, won in extras, then won the next game.

Then they lose their opener to UVA 17-4 before coming all the way back to knock them out today.

Here's a good article on that. Knocking out fucking UVA on their home field (home grounds?) tastes even sweeter than I imagined. Our pitching mostly sucks though, and we're gonna need another comeback to win a 7th straight elimination game. Still, this has all been played with house money -- just an awesome and miraculous run.

Edit: Damn, ECU wins the regional. Not complaining one bit though. Also: BC up 3-1 early vs Utah Tulane and looking good. This is a great opportunity for the Eagles.

Kendall Rogers just tweeted the call against BC was one of the worst he's ever seen. Anyone know what the play was. Didn't see it.

Runner called out when he was safe "by at least a foot".

Still up 6-2.

I think you mean Tulane when you say Utah there...

Exactly. They'll face the Miami/LBSU winner in the Super Regional. Believe me when I tell you this: if Miami is the opponent there will not be any sort of crowd to deal with compared to any place else they could have been going. Miami is a heck of a club but if Dunn can get Game 1......
Dunn gives them a chance. I don't know how they'll score enough runs to win though. Pitchers will need to be lights out. This isn't a good offensive team at all.

I do indeed, thank you for catching that. So many games in such a short amount of time, I can't keep track. I do mean it, though, when I say BC won the regional -- which is a pretty cool thing to be able to say. Good stuff!

Clemson went down yesterday to a superior Okla St team, who looks very solid. If Gamecocks win tonight, the Super USC-OklaSt should be a good matchup.

Overall very good first year for Monte Lee. They had limited pitching and I think they overachieved in his first year. Things look good going forward.

TCU taking it to aggy. 8-2 in the 9th. Barring a disaster, they could punch their ticket to Omaha tomorrow.

Big win for BC. Forces a Game 3. Not confident they win but great to have a shot.
