Has Wallach ever disagreed with Fred? As in took a stand on an island and argued against him? I really can’t remember it. Fred will go on a rant and Wallach will then repeat what he just said in a different way to further Fred’s point, in total agreement.

I've had this same thought before. He really appears to avoid any disagreement with Fred.

And then Rich will take the opposite side, and since he doesn't have the in-depth sports knowledge the other two have, they both just jump down his throat. Wallach loves it cause he's sort of in the cool club then with Fred, if that makes sense? And I'm not even saying Rich is right in that sense, a lot of times he is clearly wrong, but Wallach gets a tremendous amount of enjoyment out of ganging up on him when he's got Fred on his side. He's very quick to dismiss Rich but NEVER does that to Fred.

Yea, I assume you are talking about the segment where Rich just floated out there the mere possibility of the Patriots winning tonight or even scoring 21 points, and Fred immediately dismissed that with a snide tone -- followed by Wallach laughing in an over-the-top incredulous and mocking manner. Wallach was doing this very same thing earlier in the season and pre-season too -- being a mocking Yes Man with Fred on his anti-Pats takes. I'm pretty sure he didn't think the Pats would even win 7 games. Fred and Wallach the Yes Man have been a bit quiet since then but appear to be back in form after the frustrating Vikings loss.

Yes! Haha, 100% you read my mind that was the exact moment I asked the Wallach question. I am a realist when it comes to the Pats, but literally all Rich did was suggest it wasn't an improbability that they could still make the playoffs. Fred and John both were very snide to Andrew Callahan as well, all because he made ONE reference to 538. The second he hung up, John was like oh yeah I disagree with Andrew about the Patriots not needing to win tonight, which wasn't what Andrew said at all, he said they would go from a 35% chance to a 23% chance (or so).

Edit - and another thing that bugged me. The way Fred and John discussed the possibility of the Pats scoring 21 points as if it was a complete impossibility when they are coming off by far their best offensive game of the season.

Ah, that's right. It was more of a response to Callahan then Rich. That segment reminded me of the way Fred treated Jeff Howe last year when he -- God forbid -- tried to push back on Fred's negative Pats takes.

Finebaum interview was an all-timer, he was so great. Funny, humble, I really hope they can make this more of a regular thing. I know T&R aren't college sports guys but this was awesome.
This was fantastic. I just caught up with it on the podcast. It's hilarious that people that work for Feinbaum's show including Paul himself love the T&R segments. Paul seems like a great guy. Him dodging Mildridge was interesting though.

I get the feeling it’s because Mildred is a character and not a real person. The voice is very convincing but there’s a YouTube channel that all of her calls to the show and they get so far off the wall it’s hard to believe it could real. But hey you never know! You wouldn’t think star market lady is a real person but she is

Jonathan was always ridiculed for his gap teeth growing up. The tuba players were especially nasty towards him and would give him a hard time. He was forced to develop coping mechanisms such as always agreeing with the group alpha, and “jelqing” in order to gain confidence

Wallach was away for a bit doing Celtics games... T&R would joke/tease about him leaving the show. He's clearly insecure and overcompensating now that he's back. For some weird reason, he craves validation from Fred. I think he's in awe of Fred's (obvious) tall tales.

This is the equivalent of when a caller calls in and does Fred’s impression of some other character. It isn’t funny and sucks.

It probably was in good fun, but there was one day during this that I caught Fred going on a mini-rant about Wallach being absent that, well, certainly didn't sound like a joke, had an almost bitter tone. I know Fred's a good guy and very open about his problems... But as those problems have worsened it's started to affect him on air. Given his overall sarcasm and demeanor, working with Fred when he's in a bad mood might not be very enjoyable so I can understand Wallach pandering a little in that sense.

I heard this. Then the next day Wallach was back, remoting in from home. I got the feeling he was supposed to be off that day, but came on to appease Fred. (It was entertaining, regardless.)

Says the guy who’s making lame jokes on a site that he classifies as lame on a not funny parody account? Ok pal.

If the site is so lame and you’re here looking for people to say how funny and great your parody account is that’s pretty pathetic.

Are you actually Sarge?

How come T&R constantly just replay segments from the day before? Yesterday I listened to them so this whole segment about a guy who fell off a cruise ship and they spent 20+ minutes on it. I found it funny and listened again today and it was literally the same exact segment word for word.

i think I’ll go back to podcasts after that.

They are getting ready for their holiday break and their big show at The Wilbur tomorrow. They do it, but not that often. An hour total a month?

I think Rich was just out for a bit, and his production work really carries the show in terms of setting up unique content. They usually replay a segment or two when he’s not as available.

I’ve noticed they do it at least weekly, sometimes a bit more frequently. What I’ve gathered is that it’s replays of either funny bits or good interviews. They do always replay it at a different time than the segment originally aired (replay is generally around 7:00). I’ve always assumed it had to do mostly with Rich needing to do production work at that time and them trying to share good content with a portion of their audience who might not have heard it originally

I have no problem with them occasionally replaying good bits. Stern used to do this ALL the time. Totally normal in radio.

I was there, and had an absolute blast. It was a shit show but I really do mean it in the best of ways. Rich would play something from his laptop but it wasn't synced up with the audio and so they'd have to pause it off stage to get it to sync up. Live fart court was great (Bedard was guilty, btw), Esoteric did a cool performance that was fun to see in person. Crash was everything you wanted him to be (and then some) - absolutely annhilated. He said the c word at one point when talking about Wallach while double fisting Bud Light pounders. Fred was great, swore way more than I thought he would and was really funny throughout the night. Rich was super outgoing as you'd expect. Wallach didn't say much (which was a recurring joke that he didn't even need the mic); Meriweather looked SO happy to be there, and was a pleasure to meet after the show. The Meet and Greet, however was a shit show and not really in the best way; just a lot of lines in the lobby of the Wilbur and there wasn't much rhyme or reason to it, seemed a bit disorganized. We were maybe like a quarter of the line back (it went all the way up the stairs), and when it was our turn, Fred paused to walk up the stairs on the side of the stage. Someone told him he had to come back down and he seemed annoyed, not sure if he needed to go to the bathroom or something but he was clearly pissed. Other than that, had a great time and would go back again in a heartbeat.

Thanks for that recap! Sounds like it was a great time. I saw the pic of Fred raising his hands in the air with the sold out crowd behind him. It's incredible how huge their fanbase is in the midst of a dying industry. EEI is already cutting bait and preparing for what I think is an inevitable format change to all sports gambling format, and these guys are still on top of the world. Amazing.

It makes the stories Fred and Rich tell about when they killed WBCN and then had all the "Sports Personalities" vying for their job at 98.5 even before it launched because Fred and Rich would crash and burn. Turns out they were just about 10+ years ahead of where the industry was going. I love T&R but the fact that it's also rooted in one of my main interest (Boston Sports) makes it awesome. At this point, I'd follow T&R wherever they went, but I would love them to stay with Boston Sports for the next 10 or whatever years they want to do it.

It was talked about quickly in the WEEI thread, but Fred's been very vocal about Wallach taking the C's gig part time (diverting costs from the T&R show to the Celtics ledger) and Wallach is basically gone until Feb. on PTO and Celtics. Plus the whole stupid Lockhart layoff. I really think they are on their last contact for T&R at 98.5 and I really hope I'm wrong.

I was going to ask them that during the Meet and Greet about their future plans (not that I'd expect them to reveal anything, but maybe I could have gotten a sense from their reaction to the question) and unfortunately I totally forgot. Had a few too many gin and tonics! Worth it though.

You might well be right. I know Fred and Rich joked that picture was taken to help Fred's use in dating apps, but I think that should be thrown down on a table as Exhibit A of any future contract negotiations talk. Look at the massive amount of hardcore fans they have for prospective advertisers!

I agree it's a bit of both. I'm not sure why I've never gone to the three shows the've had. I get weirded out in a 4th wall kind of way. If I ran into them in a way where it was normal to talk to them, I'd have no issue. I also am shocked I've never run into Joe Murray at any point since he mentions places we are both at constantly and would talk to him no problem.

really rough morning for Rich in the 6:00 hour

They were discussing the Jets QB situation and he like didn't understand the notion of a 3rd string QB. He insisted Flacco never "jumped" Wilson in the depth chart because he wasn't actually ON the depth chart since you only dress 2 QBs. Fred was like "if someone doesn't explain this to him I'm leaving"

Joe Murray, a bunch of callers and the producer tried to explain it to him and he didn't get it.

"he's never been behind Flacco"
"if you're inactive you aren't on the depth chart"
"he isn't the 3rd QB. he's inactive"

At one point Fred nearly lost his mind screaming at him but it didn't last long

Rich seems to have those moments a couple times per year. He’s a smart dude so I never quite understand why, but it’s always funny to make Fred apoplectic. Also why he needs someone like Fred who won’t let the point go.

It’s simple to me, really. Rich didn’t grow up a sports fan the way we (and even Fred) did so he just doesn’t have that knowledge at the ready.
every other host talks about the teams they grew up watching, etc. I don’t think I’ve ever heard rich talk about that

I haven’t listened yet, but honestly super-wise condescending Fred is more annoying to me than sports-naive Rich. It always seems so personal to Fred. I guess it’s just a bit, but I’m always a little surprised Rich can shake off Fred’s attitude so easily. I don’t really care if Rich knows how QB depth charts work. Fred jokes all the time about not actually caring about this stuff. Ehhh. I am glad they have the media guests they do, and the show is my connection to Boston sports. I have way more fun when they get along.

I listened to the pod this afternoon. It was really just Rich doubling down on being wrong and refusing to concede. It was funny.

What was funnier was Joe Murray going all in on Creed and Bush as good bands earlier this week. Yikes. I always like when they get into music talk. It was solid radio.

Which I guess was Fred's point, but I don't think Rich was as off as I initially thought.

Joe Murray (who I normally like) is in for Rich today. He's screaming about how Vegas must've made a call somehow to get the Pats to lose. "Seven underdogs lost! If the Pats won it would be 8! How can you not think this is a Vegas (the gambling institution, not the team) win?"

Fred made some comment about how it took the dumbest play in NFL history for the Pats to lose the game and Joe wasn't having any of it.

I get it, he's "the gambling guy" on TSH (spoiler alert: he isn't very good) but the one trick pony thing is a tough listen at 6:55 AM

There's a reason that Joe Murray doesn't have a full-time radio gig. His shtick is more suited to Ordway-era WEEI radio which only works without any decent competition.

When they first started doing The Bankroll Boys I really enjoyed it. As a self-contained, weekly segment it was funny. But I can't stand constant gambling talk, and Joe always leans on that when he's on. I don't mind people betting at all, I just find talk of it tedious.
