Between Tiger King, the tiger getting Coronavirus at the Bronx Zoo, and this -- it's been a really shitty couple of weeks to be a tiger.

RIP, Al. Never spent a minute in the minor leagues, and was never anything but excellent.

Such a graceful athlete, in the field, on the bases, throwing. Reaching the majors at 18, winning a batting title at 20! Starring in the 1968 Series after telling Mayo Smith he didn’t deserve to be in the lineup. Such a humble man. He was to Detroit what Stan Musial was to St. Louis.

I am betting that I am not the only SOSH'r who fell in love with baseball when they got an Al Kaline model glove.

My high school biology teacher in 1978 pointed out that you could always remember how to spell alkaline by thinking of Al Kaline. I think I was the only person in the class who knew what he was talking about.

“Son, Mr. Kaline will let you know it’s a strike by doubling off the wall.” Always loved that line.

RIP, Mr Tiger. Very sad that couldn’t see one more opening day in Detroit.
