Yeah my PCP said 45. I'm getting it next or getting a new PCP.
I believe it is earlier if there is family history. I think 40 or 10 years earlier than age family member was diagnosed.
However, several years ago my sister in law's PCP basically told her to lie about symptoms so she could have a colonoscopy. She had to say there was blood in her stool or something like that and was able to get it "early." Her father died in mid 50's and never had a colonoscopy until a few months before his passing.

Yeah, starting off by saying I was healthy and not having symptoms before talking about my family history was basically what 'doomed' me (insofar as my ability to get a referral for an early colonoscopy). I can't figure out, though, why they would be averse to having people get them, giving how much more expensive it must be to treat down the road. I'm sure that the insurance companies have done the math, and maybe it's because they actually profit off of treating colon cancer, but you would think the ounce of prevention would be worth it.

You're welcome. I think it is factually accurate but obviously it doesn't represent the emotions of the video very well. I know that you and everybody here knows that and and understand how emotional the video was.
Excellent recap, but I think Jim was going to talk to two of HIS kids at Fenway and Burton was just quoting back to him recalling the moment while shooting this piece.

EDIT: I could be wrong, I'm only pointing this out because I don't want to rewatch it to confirm my first impression of the piece. I thought the little girl at Fenway in the stands was his daughter that officiated over the recent wedding.

Thank you, I appreciate it. It was a tough thing to watch at times.

Thanks, it's been four years, but it still sucks.

I'm assuming that the "finger check" is a prostate exam, which didn't start for me until I turned 50. I believe the new recommendation for a colonoscopy is now 45, although I had mine "early" at 48.
They do genetic testing for colon cancer. It's very big on my fathers side. Killed my grandfather and 4 uncles. worth looking into if anyone has family who has suffered from colon cancer.

Also, I don't understand why the recommended ages for Colonoscopies are so late... 45...48...? i thought it was 40 here but perhaps it's changed. I have had two coisons as well who have had colon cancer. one was diagnosed at 24. One at 33. (both had the gene). I'm 37 and i wish the doctors wouldn't make me wait in order to have annual tests done. this shit scares the pants off me.

I don't blame you for being scared-my Dad had colon cancer so I have had regular colonoscopies since I turned 40.
With that said, the bolded is quite convenient when having a colonoscopy.

This is brutal, and I've lost family to this type of cancer as well. My wife worked at NESN for years and said Corsi was always tremendously kind and thoughtful. He'll be missed

@ELMA 30100110:
I had chest pain in September that I put off getting checked until after Thanksgiving. I thought it was a pulled muscle, but was far more serious. Still caught in time.

Our lives are worth more than our deductibles.

Especially, for men in America, I feel we are taught to power through health issues. But, no, get the help WE need.

Had a hard time watching that, my heart goes out to the Corsi family.

This hits close to home since my dad died the same way. He refused to get a colonoscopy and the undetected cancer spread from his colon to his liver, kidneys, and lungs. You definitely don't want to be in the room when the oncologist tells your loved one that they've never seen cancer progress this quickly and that there's nothing they can do other than make them comfortable. He died less than a month after being diagnosed.

Please get your scheduled colonoscopy. If not for yourself, then for your loved ones.
Experiences - some years ago, my daughter had a boyfriend and he was 26. He had undergone an appendectomy, suffered a weight loss after the surgery but didn't get the weight back.... found out he had colon cancer. He underwent surgery and survived. They split up, but he's alive and well. Rather unusual to have this happen at 26.

Then they screened his brother (18) and his sister (20) - and his sister had pre-cancerous polyps.

Last month, I met with my NP and she said "hey it's been 10 years". She put in an order for the procedure. It sat here on the desk.
When I heard the story about Jim, I decided to not delay - I''m having it done in February.

Jim went public with this - so that many will be aware and will go forward with the screening. Or, they won't delay on it, as I was about to do.

There's probably no one reading this thread who isn't in favor of getting a colonoscopy. But just in case anyone is on the fence and needs a gentle nudge to have one: I had my routine colonoscopy this morning. While the prep yesterday and early this morning wasn't exactly a laugh a minute, the procedure itself was painless and over before I knew it, and relief and the overall good feeling when the doctor came in and gave me all clear after the procedure can't be beat.

Saw this thread/video and am now lined up for a colonoscopy on Feb. 11 -- I'm 61 and it's been 10 years since my last one, so long overdue.
