Confirmed all over the place. Our offseason just became a lot more complicated.

I thought he was smarter than that to be honest. I'd have understood say Buffalo or Cleveland or KC. But to see what the Jets have gone through and still sign there? Wow. Just much different priorities than a guy like Brady, and IMO diminishes his legacy a smidgen, chasing every last dollar.

The money must be absurd. He'll never win another Super Bowl. Wow.

Thanks for the ring, Darrelle. I hope you put up some great years on some awful teams. Goodbye and good luck.

I hate losing him, but I am laughing my ass off at the Jets dropping north of S40MM on him...hilarious.

This. Revis helped us win a Super Bowl and I'll always look upon him as a patriots hero for that. This sucks but we don't win 49 without him.

Hello Logan Ryan and Malcolm Butler, starting CB's!

Yeah this is not good.  We went from a top 2 secondary to a bottom third secondary in 24hrs.

The New York Jets: spending a lot of money and making trades for the honor of a 2nd place finish at best.

Well, good luck to him.  He's certainly earned the right to set his priorities however he might like.

Nothing undoes 49, and he certainly helped get them that ring.

The tampering HAS to stick now right?

I think the issue will be folded into and buried along with the League's outrage, despair, distraughtness over all those deals that were worked out before real free-agency officially started.  We ain't seeing bupkes, unless you think a Sternly Worded Letter counts for anything.

If you think we have a bottom third secondary right now then the DMC signing was the stupidest fucking thing ever because we're paying 10 million a year to one of our guys.

You can't connect the dots on tampering's impact. The fact is the Jets were free to deal with him after 4 o'clock today. If anything it will be a very low round pick.

I don't expect them to do it, but the only legitimate way to value Revis is based on salary, and as a top 5 guy at his position that should be worth two first round picks (e.g. equivalent to franchise tag).  Anything other than that is a joke, compensation-wise.

Note:  I totally expect the NFL will actually do nothing here.

If anyone thinks the NFL will do anything about the tampering charge they are kidding themselves. It's not the pats so they don't give a crap.

Nah, it's super simple to say that tampering with a guy during the exclusive window (which is undeniable given the tape of Woody and time the statements were made) irretrievably changed Revis' perception of his external market and poisoned all discussions from that moment on.

I just think the NFL is so morally bankrupt on tampering that they will simply ignore it instead.  But there is not a causation problem here, just an enforcement one.

Oh well, hard to fault him for taking an offer like that and hard to fault the Pats for not wanting to pay him like that. Pats will spend the money wisely elsewhere. Moving on.

Brady and Giselle are worth somewhere between $400-500 million dollars.  And, has been documented elsewhere, Revis has a strong union bent and is invested in raising the tide for everyone.

I get the money part and I don't begrudge him a single cent of it but I can't imagine if the money were close why he'd want to go back to that shithole of an organization. I think the Pats are fucked for next year but they'll still win the division and with Revis they'd have had an excellent chance to repeat. Salary and endorsements I guess. Maybe the Pats offer sucked too. Depressing.

The secondary would be significantly worse without DMC so I don't think paying a player market value is the "stupidest fucking thing ever".  But when your starting corners as presently constituted have a combined handful of starts how is that not a bottom third secondary?

And you can say that about every deal illegally reached on Sat/Sun/Mon, and there were more than a few of them.

@AdamSchefter: While specifics of Darrelle Revis' deal are uncertain, this much is not: it will make him the highest-paid CB in NFL history.

Kraft will FedEx his super bowl ring. Don't expect him to present it when the Jets return to foxboro.

The league will do nothing, perhaps a nominal fine.

Two issues here:

1.) Nobody cares.  As long as it doesn't threaten the precious (on-field) INTEGRITY OF THE GAME, rules violations are essentially accepted by fans.  Violate the salary cap?  Whatever.  Tape opposing coach's signals? BURN THEM.  It's just not an issue that generates fan or media interest.
2.) Causation/damages.  How do you prove you lost a guy because of tampering?

In effect, the NFL won't be pressured to do anything, so it won't.  It's not an on-field issue, nobody but us gives a fuck and the violation wasn't blatant enough that the NFL risks anything by all but ignoring Woody's comments.

Arrington has 56 career starts, Dennard 20, Ryan 13. It's not that green a group; the problem is there's no #1 guy.

but wasn't Revis off limits during the legal tampering period?  He wasn't a pending FA, he had an option waiting to be picked up. Any contact between the NYJ and Revis's camp would be tampering, no?

I admit, they will struggle to stop the pass this weekend.

I bet he invites him to his house with the rest of the team. Why the hard feelings?

@MMehtaNYDN: Source: Darrelle Revis' contract with the Jets: 5 years, $70M ($39 FULLY guaranteed). $48M in first 3 years. #nyj

We need a ring ceremony for Revis during the Jets game next year. If we can't sign him, troll...

Dennard couldn't beat out Butler or really anyone last season.  Arrington is strictly a slot guy.
Your projected starters on the outside as of this moment would be Butler and Ryan with quite possibly Butler the #1.

That is a pretty green group.
