He has to do this to make his team better in a passing league. You don't get any where without a top flight corner back.

Teams that have won a Super Bowl in the past 8 years without a top flight cornerback:

Ravens, Giants, Saints, Steelers, Giants, Steelers

What a fucking terrible trade for Tampa. The 13th overall pick and a 4th rounder for 1 year of Revis?

For 1 year of Revis...in zone coverage. :buddy:

Who was the top-flight CB on the Ravens two seasons ago? How about the Giants the year before that, is Corey Webster a top-flight guy?
This is true. But I'd say it's pretty safe to say you need a CB who can shut down half the field regularly or a great pass rush in today's NFL.

The Giants regularly got pressure with 4 DL and the Ravens could rush the passer.

Well, in his defense...

Okay, so you don't need a top flight CB. But if you don't have that, you WILL need a top flight pass rush.

That's fair. That's not what he was saying, though.

Id rather do extra years given where the cap was going, but not crazy.

Disagree the Pats "have" to do this though

Giants & Steelers could rush the passer which covered up the secondary. New England is not that great of a pass rushing team. Revis can cover that up to a degree.

Yes but you said you need a top flight CB to win... which is entirely false.

Elite pass rush negates need for top CB. Pats don't have an elite pass rush.

Sooooo....you're saying there's more than one way to win in the league? That the equation isn't just "top CB needed to win"?

You don't say. Tell me more.

Soooo you're saying that the Pats have a good enough pass defense or a pass rush to win the Super Bowl. Really?

Sigh. I am responding to singer's claim that a top flight CB is necessary to win in today's league. That, as he himself has just pointed out, is entirely false.

He's not saying that at all. He's saying there is more than one way to skin that cat.

I mispoke. However a top flight CB goes along way to covering up a mediocre New England pass rush. I'd rather have Revis at say 12-13 million than the 10 million that Ware just got from Denver.

Come on man, you know what he was saying. He was responding to a post that said you MUST have something.

We don't want you in here apologizing again tomorrow morning...

Not that it isn't boring regardless.
Well since what you said is being "more or less" being said by a couple of members on this site as well as most of the radio guys in the market you can't be too sure.

That's a much better point, and probably pretty true in the Pats' case. Whether Revis will actually take 12 million if offered by the Pats is another question entirely.

So you're suggesting sign Revis and trade him to the Broncos for Talib, Ware and Welker?

Let's whack Adrian Wilson now to free up even more money and the number #24 jersey.

This is just ridiculous. They would sign Revis and trade him to Arizona for Larry Fitzgerald. Then trade Mallet to Houston for Watt and 33 then trade all that for Talib, Ware, and Welker.

They only save 700K by cutting Wilson. And then you probably need to replace him with someone who makes at least 500K. So you save 200K max.

We were told that there'd be no math

What if Wilson is like, "No, I won't give up my number, I already gave all those diapers to Arrington for it"

Here
Eagles, Colts, Browns, Jets, and Raiders are teams I think will be all over Revis. I want to believe that NYDN tweet, but I just won't until I believe it. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the bidding gets high enough where the winning team (or a few of the losers, for that matter) regret not just making the trade for the other contract. I wouldn't at all be surprised if that Tweet was a leak to up the offer from the Jets.
