He could be released, or traded.  One is more likely than the other, but that could change.  Several teams are in the mix.

Thanks media.

Yeah, all this speculating is kind of silly when you consider a decision on that front will be made in about 2 hours tops.

Twitter speculation that Revis framed Aaron Hernandez. I can confirm this from unnamed sources from unnamed organizations.

My sources confirm this but the situation could change.

Can someone change the title of this thread to "Drew v. 2.0.1"?

Sorry if this question has already been asked, but why would the Bucs release instead of trade Revis?

The contract is a mess, and post 4 p.m. they'd owe the Jets a third-rounder instead of a fourth-round pick

If they don't trade/release him by 4PM today they owe him 1.5mill roster bonus and they give up a 3rd Rd draft pick to the Jets.

Since he doesn't want to go to most teams they don't have much leverage in a trade and will have to release him.

If he's on the roster at 4PM today they owe the Jets a 3rd rounder.  If he's gone its only a 4th.  I think there's also a roster bonus due today (soon? something).

He wants to have his contract guaranteed if he gets traded making their leverage roughly zero.

Edit- I heard this on the radio yesterday so no earthly idea where it came from. Apologies if this detracts from the discussion.

i think the story is Revis won't renegotiate his contract, (the one supposedly no one wants) making it very difficult for TB to trade him.

His contract is funky in that he has a $13 million base each year with $1.5 million roster and workout bonuses.  Thus, his cap hit each year if he stays is $16 million.  If they cut him before the bonus dates, which I believe is tomorrow for the roster bonus, he counts $0 against the cap.  Thus, if they aren't keeping him, they need him off the roster by today to avoid 1) paying the roster bonus, and 2) having that bonus count on their cap.  They would like to trade him to at least get something, and some teams may have given up a pick to have him under contract and re-work the contract from there (no free agency bidding).  They would pay the cost of the bonuses to do this.  Teams know the leverage issue, and no one has bit, yet, on gaining exclusivity, probably because most interested parties know he won't renegotiate for them, so why pay $1.5 million now and suffer that $16 million cap hit?

Isn't the reason his contract is funky is because there's $0 guaranteed so they can cut him at any time with no cap hit?

He could prob rack up crazy sack numbers in the Raiders scheme, to be fair.

Well, that would probably put to rest the debate over who is the better overall player, Revis or Arrington.

If he's on the roster tomorrow, he's owed the roster bonus and that would be out of pocket cash and a $1.5 million cap hit for this year.  If they get him off the roster before tomorrow, then they are out no cash and have no cap hit.

Not that it's going to happen but imagine the blow up if the Pats got Revis for a Talib + 25% contract. Either that or Denver signs him and the NFL collapses.

Releasing Isaac Sopoaga clears $3.5M in cap space for the Patriots. Team is currently in healthy position from cap standpoint for 2014.

Alright, any guesses on what kind of guaranteed salary Revis gets this season?

NFL network guessing around $10M, just north of what Talib got. I've got to imagine Revis will be asking for more and if he is, I'm not sure he's getting it from the Pats.

He has to do this to make his team better in a passing league. You don't get any where without a top flight corner back.

My understanding was that you needed to be under the cap when the new league year started(yesterday at 4) but that you could go over as long as you were at some other specified date(not sure what date).

Is that incorrect and do you need to be under the cap at all times once the new league year begins?

Who was the top-flight CB on the Ravens two seasons ago? How about the Giants the year before that, is Corey Webster a top-flight guy?
