In so many was, for me, 2012 was a perfect season in ND college football. I believe college football is a bit more fun when ND is good (maybe because they are among the few "national" teams, and certainly because I;m in Chicago). And there's nothing better than ND getting to the final game and getting demolished. Had it been anybody but Alabama/Saban (or maybe USC when Carroll was there) it might have been perfect. I root for ND because I want to root against them in the biggest game of the season.

Even so, and they've got tons of moral problems that have been exposed over the years, when it comes to academic fraud, they really do seem to pay attention. I wish rape allegations got even more scrutiny (and they aren't even close to being equivalent) but on academics, I have to hand it to them.

The school found these in an internal investigation.  Same way they got Golson cheating,

They fit right in now with their ACC brethren. Don't worry, there will be no NCAA sanctions. and the players will be back next year...

Well, I don't know what's really going on (and neither do you or anyone else), but if it's some form of cheating and Notre Dame, themselves, has discovered it and dismissed the players from the team (as initial reports suggest), there shouldn't be sanctions.  The purpose of sanctions is for the NCAA to punish programs that can't, or don't, police themselves.

Initial reports suggest Notre Dame is taking care of it the right way.  As I mentioned above, this will hurt their team a lot this year, so, yeah, sanctions might not be needed.

It was a joke. UNC is not getting any sanctions for years and years of academic fraud, did not call themselves out nor admitted to everything. ND will be fine.

Wow!  Those are probably four of their top ten players.

This will definitely have a huge impact on their team this season.
Three of the top ten. Kendall Moore is unlikely to see much of the field outside of garbage time or possibly special teams.

UNC received a bowl ban for a season, was put on three years probation, and lost 15 scholarships.  They also vacated the wins from both the 08 and 09 seasons.

UNC fired football coach Butch Davis, AD Dick Baddour "resigned" and chancellor Holden Thorp also resigned.  Multiple football players were kicked out of school or suspended multiple games.

UNC has self-investigated itself multiple times and had an outside investigation, plus the NCAA has been there once already and is again, and there's another outside investigation going on.  I think the count will be up to 9 investigations when the remaining two are done.

They've admitted on multiple occasions that there were significant academic problems at the school, both with athletes and non-athletes taking classes that were not up to standard.  Christ, they have an entire website about it - http://carolinacommitment.unc.edu/

This idea that UNC hasn't received any punishment or is getting off with just the same old stuff going on or the NCAA is ignoring them is one of the biggest lies currently going.

I have no dog in this fight, but I assumed the barbs at UNC were basketball related.

And firing Butch Davis only serves to highlight that the hired him, in the first place. But Paterno at Penn State set the bar -- an incredibly low bar. Don't turn a blind eye to child sexual abuse, don't turn a blind eye to assaults and sexual assaults, don't actively recruit criminals (or if you do, at least monitor and try to help them out) and we know it certainly could be worse.
