Are they really that tight? Seems like they've got a ton of near minumum salary posirions locked up.

But, the obvious first move is to auction Dempster to the team willing to take on the most salary (or not sign Dempster for 2 years in the first place if your 2014 budget is tight).

Mythology aside, a tight budget doesn't need Johnny Gomes at $5 million either.

And I'd have to think hard about whether I'd rather have Ells and Carp at 1B with JBJ at Pawtucket as insurance, or Napoli and JBJ in CF with some schlub in Pawtucket who will suck if needed in Boston.

Seems like a decent guy to have. His bat is nothing special, but it's much better than other backup options like Barmes, Brendan Ryan, Alexi Casilla, John McDonald, etc. He hits righties better than lefties, which gives him some value as a backup for three righthanded bats. And he has a minor league option. Anything more than that is probably overthinking it. He's a backup middle infielder.

Of course, the report also indicates that he plays for the Rockies.

So when exactly are you going to stop bitching about Ellsbury?  When he plays about two healthy season in the next five or when he is fallen off and the Yankees are looking to pay his salary with another team fro D level prospect?

Do you hate JBJ?  JBJ is already better than Ellsbury in the field.  There is a drop off offensively but not a substantial one to continue crying about not giving Ellsbury a ridiculous contract.

I like how he just beats the dude on top of his head. And add that to the kicking-him-when-he's-down thing, and damn, you've got a pretty intense version of Nick Punto.

More backup security for Sox pitchers when throwing at opponents and inciting bench-clearing brawls?

I wholeheartedly approve.

Go ahead, assholes. Charge the mound. Jonathan F*cking Herrera dares you.
