Who is the old Asian guy with the long locks of white hair? That guy is my new favorite; he looks like a Mortal Kombat character.

The speech has been loaded with gaffes.

"Every guy behind me did their part"

Yeah, except for Mujica, Badenhop, Pierzynski, et al

"Xander Bogaerts, who took over at third base"

Hey Middlebrooks, how's it feel to get a backhand slam from the President?

It's safe to say our favorite Gang of 25 are better baseball players than wardrobe artists.

I don't think you can blame O's speechwriters for not knowing that some of the 2014/non-2013 players were behind him. I was very surprised that they would be included. Some of the other writing was poor, though.

What about guys like Salty?  Was he there?

Players who've switched teams almost never join their previous employers on White House trips. Scheduling issues alone often prevent it, though it also seems to be the uncouth thing to do.

Considering Obama acknowledged about half of his staff are Red Sox fans, including his press secretary and photographer, I think we can absolutely blame his speechwriters. This isn't a 2013-14 Red Sox thing, it's an "every team that's ever been honored at the White House" thing. Players ALWAYS change teams. Members who helped win the title don't join their former teams. Players who had nothing to do with it -- including Mujica, who actually LOST in the same World Series -- are included.

In the end it's a minor gaffe, but it's a gaffe nonetheless.

Menino must have written it.

OK, you've taught me something I didn't know, about teams always  bringing the new guys to the White House. That still seems odd to me, though.

NESN has the whole ceremony up on YouTube. It looks like they uploaded two hours worth of NESN stuff from the production truck, including commercials, infomercials, and Sports Today. So jump to around the 1:19:00 mark.

Oh, it's definitely odd, but from the team's perspective it's potentially divisive to leave these guys out. Including them on the trip can build respect, camaraderie, and a "This can be yours." eureka moment of wisdom.

A Used Cars reference. Wow. Just a hat tip, even though it's way off topic.

Papi should lift Obama over his shoulder a la Koji. And then tell him he won't put him down until Obama promises to put him on money.

Obama has to bend his knees and stoop over to shake Pedey's hand, like he's greeting a small child.

With all the crap Menino's been going through of late, it's great that he was able to be there.

I agree with most of the gaffes but with regards to X I thought he was referring to the World Series last year.
