"Prior to Thursday’s series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays, Cora revealed plans to hold a players-only meeting before the start of Boston’s four-game series in New York against the Yankees. The Red Sox entered Thursday on a three-game losing streak, a stretch that sunk them to 10 games out of first place in the American League East and 2.5 games out of the the final AL wild-card spot."

What could Cora possibly say at a team meeting to get them to pitch better? The good pitchers fried their arms in the post season last year. It’s not getting any better until Sale, Price, et al get a long off season.
Why aren’t the other playoff team’s pitchers fried? (Including the Dodgers who went as far as we did and make the playoffs every season)

For DD and Cora to tell us this team is talented enough to win they just have to show it was just bullshit. Anyone can see that the pitching is just not good enough.

Well hopefully the MFY still playing like cupcakes . Unfortunately we are chasing the Rays , so we have to be beating them too, especially at home

the Dodgers who won 92 games in the National League last year after winning 104 the previous season? Then got hot in September and went on a run? Unfortunately the AL East is too good to be able to pull that off. And did they return almost the exact same pitching staff all three seasons like the Red Sox did?

And I’m not making excuses for them, but bottom line this starting staff was not ready to play this season for whatever reason.

Call it:

10:14PM, August 1, 2019 This Team is officially Dead.

All hopes must now be pinned on a Resurrection in April, the traditional month for such things, of the Year of our Lord, 2020.

Because we used them as relief rovers to fill the bullpen gaps, and Price went on short rest multiple times. We threw the kitchen sink at winning it all last year, this is the credit card bill coming due. It sucks but I understand it.

I remember those games last weekend when I was disappointed that the Sox didn't get to bat the bottom of the ninth and pile on.

I've said this at least a few times... Hembree is still hurt, IL him and let him heal. or maybe he just finally turned into a pumpkin.

Well, by Aug. 5 we'll have a much better take on the team's odds. I wouldn't say the team itself, because overall they're like throwing darts blindfolded. But if they sweep the Yanks and end up 6 out, maybe they'll bumble through to the end. If they're swept, I'll have no faith they'll find consistency in the final stretch.

This. The Dodgers play in a weaker division as you note and their pitchers only have to face eight real MLB hitters when going through a lineup.

This is no fun but if the Sox can win this weekend's series they still have a shot. I am not bullish on their chances because their pitching is pretty wrecked but its still not impossible for them to get in via the WC. I don't begrudge anyone for giving up on them but its kind of entitled and definitely unrealistic to think they are going to dominate like last year.

all this decade this team puts it all together fantastically or chronically underperforms. why is that?

there's a difference between "definitely unrealistic to think they are going to dominate like last year" and what we're seeing. they're on pace to lose 20 wins off of last year.

people were talking in March about 95 wins being the worst-case scenario.

I suggest Cora put this video on as the Sox make their way to NY to remind them who they have the potential to be:

i'd be more relieved if the starters' shittiness is because of last October. I'd make that trade every time, as irate as I am right now. but I am really feeling that is not the reason.

Tonight might be the lowest point of a season of lowpoints. To crash like this on the heels of their dominant and season jumpstarting 3 straight wins over the evil empire only a week ago is kinda pathetic and cruel at the same time

And what would you attribute it to? They’d be on the IL if they were injured. They didn’t forget how to pitch. Sure they didn’t pitch much in spring training but what were they supposed to do if they all had dead arm when they showed up?

I’m not totally giving up on this team, but damn it, they need to take 3 of 4 again vs the MFY to stay in the race. Oakland, Cleveland and Tampa are going nowhere.

It's what they've done all year. Right when it looks like they're turning a corner they shit all over themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if they won 3 in NY then came home and lost a series to the Royals. That's the way it's gone.

Maybe there’s something to that, but I think we are really fishing. Sale has sucked since the middle of last August and Porcello? He’s an every other year guy and overall, pretty mediocre. There was something special going on last year that’s just not there this year. Price and Erod have been good overall. But damn that start, and they are just playing terrible at home. Very strange.

The season has been disappointing compared to last year. They don’t suck, but it’s definitely frustrating to watch knowing that they have the potential to be so much better. So I’m just gonna love the shit out of watching X and Devers and Mookie and hope for the pitching to stop shitting down their leg but if they don’t I’m still gonna enjoy love those three. That said, stop fucking starting and stopping and just either suck or dont

Proctor could actually get guys out and was probably their best SU guy at the time.
------
HH blows and sucks
/Mazz

------

They have the 3 top run scorers in the league and are double digit games back.
But his arm eventually ended up shot, presumably in large part because of overuse. HH may be the victim of the same thing.
