They're starting to be entertaining in a perverse way. Every night they redefine how bad a pitcher can be.
probably when he can be called up without this year counting as a year of service time, mid-late September. When the hell is Nick Pivetta going to pitch?
I was going to suggest the Red Sox Foundation auctioning off this opportunity. Any one of us could walk three guys in a row too,They should run a promotion where Red Sox fans get to open the game for them. It’s in service of history.
When the team turns it around (which I still believe will happen in sooner seasons rather than later ones), he'll say he "learned a lot that year." And then they'll suck again and he'll be fired. As the song goes (and bringing it back to the thread title) "The seasons . . . go round and round; the painted ponies go up and down....."Dave Bush is not going to put 2020 on his pitching coach resume.
Agreed on the first, disagreed on the second. I wouldn't be surprised if Bush is fired or moved into a different role after fielding one of the worst pitching staffs in MLB history. It won't be entirely fair given the carousel of hot dog vendors taking the mound and the injuries, but even the established guys like Eovaldi and Barnes have been bad, and the reclamation projects (Godley, Weber, etc.) have been generally disastrous. Valdez is the only pitcher on the roster who seems to have taken a major stride this year, right? When the team turns it around (which I still believe will happen in sooner seasons rather than later ones), he'll say he "learned a lot that year." I think Bush is more likely gone after this season because the whole staff will be gone rather than as a scapegoat for the under-performance of the pitching staff.Agreed on the first, disagreed on the second. Yup, much like 2012.I think Bush is more likely gone after this season because the whole staff will be gone rather than as a scapegoat for the under-performance of the pitching staff.
Except for any guys the next manager might want to retain. like Febles, Goodwin, Hyers, Bjornson, and Ramon Vazquez. That next manager might already know these guys. Might even make Roenicke his bench coach!I think Bush is more likely gone after this season because the whole staff will be gone rather than as a scapegoat for the under-performance of the pitching staff.
I was shooting from the hip. I have no real insight on how to evaluate Bush, when the pitching staff has so few major leaguers. I think a lot of his future might depend on who the next manager is. Removing him as PC, as you say, would not be totally fair, but It wouldn't be surprising.Agreed on the first, disagreed on the second. It’s almost impossible to win games with this staff. Last night finally put me over the hump into the “Don’t expect another win until 2021” level of expectations. Hope the youth injection from these trades will pan out. Some lovely pitching stats...

Can you imagine 25 losses in a row? Because I sure as hell can. We wouldn’t be a top-4 team in the Eastern League this year. It’s almost impossible to win games with this staff. Not from this team, in this season, no.Can you imagine 25 losses in a row? Because I sure as hell can.
That's cool and all, except there is no Eastern League this year.We wouldn’t be a top-4 team in the Eastern League this year.
[that’s the joke]Not from this team, in this season, no.

Not a very good joke.[that’s the joke]
You must be fun at parties. Are you this condescending toward everyone on here, or did you just want to nitpick me and assume I didn’t know the Eastern League was canceled? Not a very good joke.
Especially when you had to quote yourself to make it.
If only there was someone else in the pitch selection process who could guide him away from that choice. He's also fallen in love with his changeup. When he was doing better he was mixing pitches and avoiding walks.
Oh, I've heard good things about him. Great raw stuff, but I expect him to only pitch for a 2-3 innings. After all, in the minors, he had ~70 games started but with a career record of 0-0. That's right...his entire career, he's had no decisions.View attachment 34047
This guy named Undecided pitching in Game 2 has to bring our average ERA down, right?!!
Nope - went 5 innings and got the win.Oh, I've heard good things about him. Great raw stuff, but I expect him to only pitch for a 2-3 innings.
The incorrect implication of your post is that they are currently on a major league roster. How many of these guys will ever sniff another major league roster?
The Atlantic League, Mexican League, California Penal League...The incorrect implication of your post is that they are currently on a major league roster.
Where do they find these guys?
Imagine if BenJarvus Green-Ellis was their ace? I’m into it.Got up this morning and ,out of habit, checked the box score of last night's game. I had to assume from the list of pitchers (Triggs, Hall, Valdez, Tapia, Leyer and Stock) that the Red Sox have now hired a law firm to handle the pitching for the rest of the year.
Incredible.Apologies for posting a tweet without copy-pasting the content, but this is a gif full of hope (that I don't know how to post on its own).

Kevin Morton?I can't remember the last time the Sox got a start like that from a homegrown pitcher. No, ERod doesn't count, he was acquired from Baltimore for Andrew Miller (in retrospect, a damn good trade).
Yes he did and pitched well enough that he deserved the win. I was at that game with my mom who had taken me up to Boston for some one-on-one time before I got married a month or so later. Rumors were swirling that day regarding Manny being traded and he ended up sitting out the game because of the trade deadline. I nearly got my first and only home run ball that day. We were sitting in the right field box and John Olerud homered. Just as the ball was taking a hop and coming toward me, I got pushed pretty hard from behind. The ball hit my hands as I tumbled forward, but I wasn't able to complete the catch. My namesake had a pretty damn good debut.
Did the fans in the bleachers boo you, and inform you that you suck for not catching it?Yes he did and pitched well enough that he deserved the win. Most likely, but I was too busy tending to my bruised ego and bleeding knee to notice.Did the fans in the bleachers boo you, and inform you that you suck for not catching it?
I am that guy now if I’m taking my 5 year old daughter to a game.It could have been worse, you could have been the grown adult that takes his mitt to the game.
FWIW, I loved Paps from that day; sadly, as well as he pitched, he turned into an a-hole. At least it was in Philly.
