I’ll go ahead and take a guess that they won’t set a team record for most runs allowed in a season. The rate stats are all in play, though.

I mean, okay.

But I would wager that the Sox have had a stretch every season, likely more than 1, with giving up 7+ runs in 3 of 4 games, so yeah, they do look really bad, but, eh.

Maybe, but it's almost August and they've been like this all season

A friend of mine sent me parts of an article someone wrote about how bad the Sox staff was that they had to sign Zack Godley, Dylan Covey, Stephen Gonsalves, and brought up Robert Stock. How desperate they must be to get those guys! Watch in a month, after teams are ravaged with COVID, those guys are going to look like studs.

Sucks to lose your #1 and #2 starters after trading your #3 starter in the off-season.

They'll figure it out, eventually. Someone from the apparent bouillabaisse of mediocrity will prove to be Actually Not Bad. Roenicke will learn how to manage with an opener instead of whatever the hell he was doing tonight. We may yet find our Aaron Small. I just don't know if it'll happen in the next 57 games or however many they are able to play.

If they play all 60 games those season records are absolutely in play. ;)

Godly pitched four good innings. I expect the Sox to trot him out more.

Might as well grab this fool:

Braves designated RHP Mike Foltynewicz for assignment.
His salary is around $6M for this year, so he will cost a few million if someone claims him, dunno where BOS stands on adding salary currently.

I feel like that they should be fine. If they get to September - their debt is cleared. If they don’t, it doesn’t matter does it since this year doesn’t count or whatever?

Chaim is gonna have to earn his pay at the trade deadline. Find some future pitching. It was my only real qualm about the return in the Mookie deal, that we didn’t find a way to bring back a good pitching prospect. Even counting Sale and E-Rod, the organization lacks sufficient high quality depth and prospects.

Robert Stock as my son's favorite player during his two years for the Cotuit Kettleers -- power-hitting catcher with an incredible arm, who'd come in and pitch the 9th inning every now and again. Seemed like the surest bet pro prospect on those teams, but his route to the bigs has been pretty circuitous.

Thin silver lining but Godley looked great yesterday. Appeared to have ditched the straight fastball and went almost all cutters and curves. Think he may now have the highest swinging strike rate in baseball (28.3%) among anyone who’s thrown more than an inning or so.

If they give 7+ runs a game they could.
so far they are on track to do that.

One turn through the "rotation"...

Eovaldi: 6.0 ip, 5 h, 1 r, 1 er, 1 bb, 4 k (but the Orioles averaged more than 90mph exit velocity, so they were hitting rockets off him all night)
Perez: 5.0 ip, 6 h, 5 r, 4 er, 2 bb, 2 k
Weber: 3.2 ip, 6 h, 6 r, 6 er, 3 bb, 0 k
Osich: 2.0 ip, 2 h, 2 r, 2 er, 1 bb, 1 k (in his start)
Hall: 2.2 ip, 3 h, 3 r, 3 er, 2 bb, 3 k

So...
Eovaldi: 6.0 ip, 5 h, 1 r, 1 er, 1 bb, 4 k, 1.50 era, 1.00 whip, 6.0 k/9
All others: 13.1 ip, 17 h, 16 r, 15 er, 8 bb, 6 k, 10.13 era, 1.88 whip, 4.1 k/9

I mean......OMG

Yeah, not even close to having the lead a single time since opening night is going to lead to some brutal ratings.

Didn’t we start incredibly bad last year?

And look how that turned out!
1-4 last year, 1-4 now...

84 wins this year would be incredible!

Not to make excuses, but these guys have been throwing live baseball for what, two weeks? I don't have high expectations but I also don't think there's much to be taken away from one turn through the rotation. To me, the lack of offense since the first game is more concerning than the pitching we already knew was suspect.

Well, Foltynewicz cleared waivers and was assigned to Atlanta's minor league camp, so either Bloom is sure he's cooked or he cannot add salary.

Rough and Ras posting in this thread is the SoSH equivalent of Chet and Natalie rising from the dead, getting remarried, and covering the Building 19 bankruptcy story.

Great to see you, but you came back for this?
