I heard on the radio that Baseball Hall of Fame member Ralph Kiner died yesterday at age 91. My father, Joe Wood, Jr (son of Smoky Joe Wood) once threw a no-hitter in the Red Sox minor league system. The last batter he faced in this no-hitter was a young Ralph Kiner. I learned that when I was sent an audio file, a few years ago, of an interview with my father. You can listen to that interview here (it's over an hour long):

The audio isn't great but gets better after a while. Pete Zanardi, the interviewer and Connecticut sports writer, came down to Clinton, Ct, to interview my father about his baseball playing days. Pete asked my father how he did against Harvard. I have a game ball from one of those Yale-Harvard games in which my father won 1-0. For those of you who don't know, Scranton was the Red Sox AA club in the 1940's. Pete Zanardi kindly allowed me to post this audio file.

Now I am feeling old. I actually met your grandfather and father.
