So we have the greatest HR, the greatest putout, why not the greatest K? So many to choose from, but I will put an obvious one up - and for me, not only was this great because of the setting, but also that Sale struck out the hated ex-Oriole and Dodger rental Manny Machado, and finally because there is an ever so slight nod by Sale as Vaz seeks permission to jump into his arms. Hilarious.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
I'd nominate Foulke's strikeout of Tony Clark in 2004 ALCS, game 6.

Bottom of the 9th, do or die. Foulke having thrown 99(!) pitches in the prior two games and thusfar that night. Men on first and second, and the Thermos - clearly the most perverse candidate to crush his former team, having epically sucked for us in 2002, but was now having a competent season for the Yankees.

Lowe’s crotch chop strikeout of Long in the 2003 ALDS.
Would have been even more legendary if the ALCS went differently. The big comeback from the brink of eliminations vs Oakland was just one series too soon, and they corrected that in 2004.

Never noticed the little nod, that is freaking fantastic.

I also definitely though of this one as well as Papelbon at the end of 2007 WS. I know he was a bit of a divisive figure, especially considering how his last game with the Sox went, but he was the definition of guy you love to have on your team, IMO. He was so damn good for a long time with us.

A million times yes to this.

I still remember the tension of that moment to this day. I still can't believe they won that game.

I have never been more nervous watching a sporting event than that one. I was supposed to be at Fenway for that game, but missed it because of the rainout, as I had to be back at work (catching my 6am flight after being at Game 4 did not feel good). I had to go pick up my car from getting fixed and I had a VHS tape in to record it, and swapped out a second tape once it was like 3 hours in, just in case. Turned out I needed all of it. What a game.

Not a meaningful game or out by any means, but it has to be mentioned since the pitch itself should really be the first thing you think of when you hear Daniel Bard's name.

That pitch remains the wildest I can recall seeing. Was watching that game live and just shocked at what he there. Man did I love him when he was going well.

I thought of DLowe instantly as well. I was a junior in high school and that series turned me from casual Red Sox fan to lifelong addict.

Agreed. That was an amazing moment. For one millisecond or nanosecond or whatever between the instant the ball hit the glove to the time the ump started his arm in motion, my mind thought "holy crap they just won the series"

Not the most important, but I've always enjoyed Eovaldi blowing away Bregman in the ACLS. Ron Darling had blown Bregman so much during the series that I switched over to the Spanish broadcast, and seeing Eovaldi annihilate that cocky bastard with a 102 mph fastball on the black was extremely satisfying:

I have to go with the Clark strike out.
For what it meant to the Championship run.
For the game situation with Yankee runners in motion.
And for what it would have felt like if Clark had been the one to get the big hit against us.

At home
Foulke/Clark and Lowe/Long were the first two that came immediately to mind for me.

I wonder if you could stick every Red Sox play into the baseball-ref play index and sort them by WPA and see which strikeout actually had the highest.
