Moving the Line
Nice, not expecting anything, but I'm going to give this a pretty deep look. I meet basically all of their expectations, although my SQL and R isn't the deepest of backgrounds, though I did an eCourse previously on this in a sabermetrics course a few years ago, thanks to abs. Have quite a few items of interest surrounding their info of what a good project would be on my own time of developed metrics. Led me to Jose Martinez last year as a notable player, plus a trend I've not seen anyone quite approach in its specificity regarding primarily (but not exclusively) relievers and is a better version of the Bauer Unit.

Where it rains. No, seriously.
I don’t and I’m not. But it’s a fair point.
It’s not a fair point if you consider the source, but to be fair, it is easier to point to comments on social media than to click through a SoSh profile.

gator92 is in the pantheon of SoSH affiliates who has parlayed their message board work into a career we would all dream of. I am quite certain he/she or anyone familiar with his/her career arc would never endorse an attempt to try to steal IP through a bogus job posting.

Edit: thanks

Huh, this might be a perfect opportunity to apply my Functional Random Forest to identify player subtypes and predict career trajectories/future performance from combined qualitative and quantitative data (FRF can incorporate cross-sectional, longitudinal, qualitative and quantitative data).

Meh, it's probably too exploratory, might be better to mine the model for insights on historical data and build a Bayesian classifier from the metrics that appear important.

Of course if you steal this, I come after you. Legally, I mean. :)

We’re not trying to exploit the best baseball analysts out there, we’re trying to identify them.
My apologies. My first line was meant as a joke, and was clearly in poor taste.

Sent a DM about the rest.

Don't expect to get paid much. I think there are enough qualified people in their 20s willing to sleep on their parents' couches and work 80 hours weeks for little money just to break in that that they don't have to worry about salary.

I have a ton of experience in statistical programming and sent my resume to Bill James on a whim in 2012, right when the chicken and beer thing was going down. Two weeks later I met with him, he told me that he was authorized to hire someone to work with in developing a model to forecast free agents. It went really well, or so I thought, though he did warn me that the expected pay was far below what someone my age (40 at the time) would expect. He even walked halfway down Brookline Ave. with me afterward, just chatting and asking about me. I never heard from him again, not sure what happened. If I was one of the aforementioned twenty-somethings with no responsibilities, I absolutely would have taken a position at any salary. 40 year old me with kids would probably have said no.

This is a story about a guy named Gator 92
He was a stats guy with nothin' better to do
Than sit around the house, and watch baseball on the tube
And here's what happened when he decided to cut loose

We are also hiring analyst(s) in the more traditional role, i.e. not embedded in the clubhouse and traveling with the team. Take a look here for the job description and some more info about what characteristics might make you (or someone you know) a good candidate.

This is a great opportunity to get involved; I can testify from personal experience that it is tremendously satisfying to see work that you as an analyst have done create a positive impact on the field.
