As long as the names are not Moncada, Benintendi, or Espinosa, I like it.

Well I guess I was wrong about it not happening, I hope I was also wrong about the cost. Espinoza wouldn't get it done so it is one of Moncada, AB or Devers. I hate to part with any of them but if it is just Devers and some others that won't hurt so much I could live with it(not that I have any other option).

My guess: they keep Moncada/AB but give up Devers + Espinoza

Only 27, not FA eligible until after the 2018 season. Already a career high 102 innings this season, so you have to wonder if he's going to be on any sort of limit. Also nervous about what we gave up.

“@EvanDrellich: Source: Espinoza is going to the Padres as at least part of the trade for Drew Pomeranz.”

Already at his career-high for innings pitched in the majors in a season, and only about 10 innings from his all-time high IP in a season. The A's didn't see much in him -- which is

Hopefully they did not give up too much to get him.

Drellich just tweeted that Espinoza is part of the deal.

3.013 service time. He'll be arb eligible after this season, an FA in 2019. This makes a lot of sense if we're thinking in terms of a Bogaerts-Betts-Bradley window.

Of course, like everyone else, I'll withhold judgment until we know the return.

Yeah, I'm really wondering how this will help us in the post season. Skipping occasional starts till then? Buchholz keeps swinging from starter to relief?

Any time you can give up the closest thing to a can't-miss pitching prospect the team has had in a decade for a guy who has an injury history, a crazy high walk rate, a really low BABIP, and will be gassed by October...I guess you have to do it? Sigh...

I continue to be wrong it seems, I figured Espinoza was too far away from MLB to be the centerpiece of the deal.
Espinozo, Owens + some filler.
I'm not crazy about it but I'd rather that than Moncada or AB.

Espinoza better be the only one of the big 4. Raudes and Kopech's emergence make this a little more palatable.

He's cost controlled and has a big time prospect reputation, but I'm extremely wary of anyone coming from San Diego.

I could actually live with Espinoza since even if he doesnt help us this year with his innings already pitched, Pomeranz should help for next and possibly after that.

As long it's not too much more than that..

I hope Owens is the main piece. He could use a change of scenery.
Owens and his flyball tendency might be a good fit in Petco's marine layer -- at least a better fit than the Fenway monster.

If it's Espinoza making the trek, it suggests that Dombrowski believes that there is no such thing as a pitching prospect, and Espinoza will get TJ surgery before he ever sees a major league mound.

He's at his career high for MLB innings. He threw 147.1 innings in 2012 between the minors and the Rockies, as well as over 100 total innings in 2013 and 2014. Last year he was at 88 total innings.

If we have to give up a top prospect, giving up the one in the lowest level of the minors is my preference. It's a long way to the show, not so much for Devers, Moncada, Benintendi.

You might as well be fair and mention the crazy high strikeout rate too. Espinoza's awesome to dream on but he's so far away that by the time he even contributes, Bogaerts could be a free agent.

Owens and Espinoza then I can live with it.

He's a really really good, talented, cheap, cost controlled pitcher.

How this is a better solution than trading Michael Chavis for Andrew Cashner and then trading Espinoza as part of a splash-the-pot package for a better starter in the off-season, I'll never know.

Career high in innings, spotty track record before this year. What could go wrong?

Glad the Sox are serious about improving the staff, but if Espinoza is in this, I can't say I like it.
