Tremont has shown a lot more then Carsen, and the team probably shouldn't keep 3 players under 6'

well the below didn't age well:eek:

is there a SoSH complaint dept. for dunking on myself?
Yeah, people make fun of Danny’s obsession with wings, but you never end up having to cut wings because of roster fit.

teams are already playing 5 wings at once....hate to draft for "position" but you can't have enough wings.

ie. if the Pels offered Jaxson Hayes for Romeo straight up I'm not sure I'd do it

Wouldn't be shocked if Waters was either. I'm not expecting that to happen but they'll have to do something with some of their picks.

The Capital City Somethings are black and blue from a royal pinching by the Lobs, 125-93.

Mr. Fall did a splendid job, by the way.
29 minutes, 18 points, 16 rebounds, and 5 blocks. He shot 7-10 and was 2-4 in FT, a step forward we hope.

Mr. Waters' stats for the night were:
35 minutes, 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Not shabby. He shot 6-11 and 2-5 for 3 pointers.

The back end of the roster & two-ways will be cycled.
I'm expecting a busy trade season this summer with a lot of disappointed/desperate teams. Danny in good position to exploit it

#51 picks and udfa's like Waters, Green and Fall are perfect for the back end of the roster. Give them a year and see if they progress, if not cycle them out and draft/pickup a few more. If they pan out, well that's a good problem to have.

Pretty much. Need cheap players to fill out the back end of the roster that can soak up regular-season minutes in case of injuries. Like that they use young, hungry players that know playing ++ defense will be the only way they earn minutes. Smart way to build culture.

While Tacko is the sentimental favorite they kind of need to decide between him or VP next season.
Same with Edwards and Waters. I'd keep Fall/Waters and move VP/Edwards in a bigger trade

Have to imagine Edwards is gone after the season too.
Edwards isn't going anywhere. He signed a 4 year deal with $4.5M in guaranteed salary: https://www.boston.com/sports/boston-celtics/2019/07/12/carsen-edwards-agrees-to-four-year-deal-with-celtics. He's here for next year and likely for all four years.

And I expect him to get a lot more minutes next year as he adjusts to NBA speed and length. After all, it's not like he stopped being able to shoot.

edit: I guess they could try to trade him but not sure what they'd get for him.

It is a sad night for one and all as the beloved Lobs lose a close one to the evil Lakeland Magic, 106 to 103. They missed the tying shot twice in the last 14 seconds.

Not only that, but Tacko did not even play. What a disaster!

The only baby Celtic in action was Tremont Waters, whose stat line was less than yummy:

34 minutes, 14 points, 3 rebonds 4 assists, 11 TO (!). He shot 5-17 but 4-10 from 3 point range. Waters does seem to be a volume shooter in the Gleague.

Tacko didn't play? Was he hurt?

It has been nice to see him logging some longer minutes as the season has gone on.

Our beloved Lobs lost a close one last night, 102-101 against some other team.

As far as our baby Celtics, only Waters and Poirier saw any action. Carsen and Fall were on the roster, but did not play.

Waters
38 minutes, 5 points, 4 rebounds, 6 turnovers, and 8 assists. He stunk up the place with his shooting, 2-11 and 1-7 on 3 pointers. Perhaps being sent back down to Maine did not sit well with him?

Poirier
34 minutes, 18 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 3 steals. A nice Tacko imitation, but Poirier made all 3 of his free throws.

8 blocks now with 8:45 left.

Edwards is currently 3/14 and 0/8 from 3. 8 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists. 1 steal, 3 TO.
Waters 2/7, 1/4 from 3 with 5 points, 3 assists, 2 turn overs.
Poirer 5/8, 1/1 from 3, 13 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks in 15 minutes.

Edwards has been brutal from 3 this year. With today's current 0/8, he is 54/187, .289 combined between G League and NBA.

The lovely Lobs continue their losing ways, today by a score of 120 to 112.

The baby Celtics were of course in action, with varying degrees of success.

Fall
25 minutes, 16 points, 14 rebounds, and 9 blocks! He also had 5 fouls. He shot 7-7 from the field and 2-5 in free throws.

Waters
23 minutes, 5 points, 1rebound, and 6 assists. He shooting continues to be non-yummy, 2-7 and 1-4 from 3 point area.

Edwards
29 minutes, 8 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists. His shooting was really awful: 3-14 and 0-8 from 3 point range. His summer league third quarter may have been a mirage.

Poirier
17 minutes, 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks. A nice, Tacko-worthy line. He shot 6-10 and 1-1 FT.

around the way
Made the trip to the Expo for this one. Most of the above covered the highlights. A few things that I'd like to add.

  • Waters played no defense whatsoever. Benched 40s into second quarter for abject lack of effort.
  • Waters is a half decent passer but is loose with the ball overall.
  • They are clearly grooming Edwards as a ballhandling initiator/backup PG. His handle and command seems improved, but his shooting and finishing at the rim hasn't even a little bit
  • Mini Bulls outworked the Claws for 48 minutes. Lots of hustle and urgency. Claws had the urgency of a Sunday Y league.
  • Tacko looks so damn good at this level. The speed of the game is not too fast for him, nor are the players. He seems to have more control of his body than he did a few months ago. Of course VP looked like prime Tim Duncan too.
  • Edit: Edwards really gets off the ground. His cockback slam brought the house down.

I am unsure if you can ever call the 3rd pick in the 2nd round a miss
True, but his summer-league performance (and Purdue career) gave us reason to think he might be a lights-out 3-point shooter, if nothing else. He's been a terrible shooter for the C's (and even the Red Claws).

It's hard to understand how he has fallen so much. He's still a young kid, so it wouldn't be at all surprising if he turns it around. But, it is looking rather unfortunate that the Celtics gave him a multi-year deal as he certainly doesn't look like he has much of a fit with the C's or the Red Claws.

The Gleague home page has a video of Tacko's recent game with 16 points, 14 rebounds, and 9 blocks. It is worth watching.

Many of his blocks are to his teammates. He doesn't just swat it into the 5th row of fans.

Next, the other team's strategy against Tacko was to immediately foul him when he got the ball down low. Time and time again he put the ball up while being fouled and scored the basket. He has also become relatively more mobile on offense it seems.

Maybe, perhaps, mayhaps Tacko might have some sort of future in the NBA.

I'm quite sure he does. Not sure how well he fits with a "switch everything" defense. However, I bet he'd be pretty effective in a zone, which is something that the Celts could experiment with more.

Love watching these guys essentially try to tackle him and he still powers up through them to score. He's a strong guy and gets up and down the floor pretty well.

His ability to block without leaping is like a super power. Most guys in the NBA have to assess on an upfake whether to leap or not leap. If you bite on the upfake, you're either going to miss the block or foul the player. Tacko can just keep his arms up and swat it away when the ball is actually released. He definitely can have a role in the NBA, I believe.

He's too tall and too athletic to not have an impact in the NBA.

Really hope the C's find some actual NBA minutes for him - before the season is over.

Last Red Claws game is March 28th. I guess they actually have playoffs, which surprises me a bit.

Do we have any tally of how many days Tacko has been with the Celtics this season?

No Carsen Edwards today for Maine, which is playing a matinee. I don't recall seeing that he'd been (A) injured or (B) sent back to Boston. Anybody know what's up?

Thanks.

Waters is struggling for Maine again today.
I doubt he's tanking BUT maybe Waters is less than motivated being a Celtic.

He'd be better off getting released this summer since his path to a spot on this roster will be even more challenging next season

The Lobs are most certainly slumping, dropping another game. This one was by a score of 113-92.

As for our beloved baby Celtics, here are their stats:

Waters
30 minutes, 5 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 turnovers. He shot 2-10 and 1-4 from three-point line. His stats as of late are not looking very impressive.

Fall
21 minutes, 12 points, and 14 rebounds. He shot 6-12 from the field and 0-1 FT. He came off the bench in this game.

Or his early season success was vastly overrated and he's just not that good. At no point in this season was he ever actually "dominating" the G league. He is one of the better players in the G League but he's a fringe NBA talent so that's not a shock. Edwards is also guaranteed money so I wouldn't be surprised if they kept Edwards over Waters for that sole reason. Keeping both doesn't make much sense, but with roster sizes at 17, you can get away with things that make no sense.

With the G league and 17 man rosters, players are getting longer than ever to prove something so I wouldn't be shocked if both Edwards and Waters turn into ok players a few years down the line but I doubt they offer much value in a C's uniform. I'd just get rid of both (shocking I know.)

I'm a firm believer in using all your draft picks every year, keep what sticks and repeat the process. With 17 man rosters, there should always be like 5-6 "development" guys imo. Going anymore than 9-10 deep causes the 2018/19 Celtics so 5-6 development guys, 8-9 rotation players, and the rest of the roster with cheap vets/euros. There's no reason to keep players around who showed nothing.

I'm not sure anyone would/should be shocked. Better options could crop up via the draft, trades or FA.

The Celtic 2020 summer roster crunch is real and Danny won't have a problem cycling through 2nd round/end of the roster players.

Carsen, Tre, Tacko, VP, Romeo, Grant, Green were 2019-20 development players. Popcorn in a pan. Several will not be back in 2020-21, no one will be surprised. I'm sure we'll have some more Max Struss-types to argue about next summer.

I meant me in particular being ok with getting rid of both. I think people know where I stand in regards to 2nd round picks/undrafted players until they actually prove something. I'm confident enough in Ainge and Co to keep the correct players even if I'm not high on them/they haven't showed anything. I'm fairly sure Edwards isn't going to be the next Duncan Robinson but the C's have way more information to go on than I do and know whether he's worth keeping or not. Unless I'm missing someone, they haven't really gotten rid of anyone that's come back to bite them in the ass since like Joe Johnson.

He was player of the month in November and player of the week in January. Not sure what your definition of dominating is, but he's had a very good season up until late. Maybe he's just hit a wall, maybe he's hurt. Might be a little to soon to throw him under the bus.

I literally said he's one of the better players in the G league. Of course, Josh Jackson and Vincent Poirier are too. Not sure I'm really throwing him under the bus by saying he's not that good. He was a late 2nd round pick and he's on a 2 way contract. One of the better outcomes for him is below average NBA player.

A few years back, Brandon Bass was considered "average NBA player." So anyone worse than Bass would be below average. I guess we aren't allowed to say players are below average nowadays or it's trashing on the player.
